  1. Thanks!! No I do not have to meet with a pcp or do the lifestyle classes before hand. I have to meet with a nutrisionist and possibly get an upper GI prior to surgery. I have done nothing but research this for the past three months so I feel I am as ready as I can possibly be for this amazing change!!! How are you feeling??

  2. Hello, I have an appt with Dr. McCloskey next Tuesday, August 9th. I've heard soo many wonderful things about her so I decided to go with her. I am self pay so I'm hoping for surgery this month. So happy to hear you are doing well!!!

  3. I have had mixed emotions from my family. I am a self pay so a number of my family members think it's rediculous for me to pay $18,000 to lose weight. My mother however, has been extremely supportive and says "it's what makes you happy that counts". And she knows that being thin and healthy is the most imporatant thing to me right now. I am 5'8" and have a BMI of 35. I have decided that regardless of what my friends and family think and/or say, this is all about me. It's my life and my choice. I know in the end it will be so worth it. It's time to get healthy!!!!!!!!!! Try not to listen to everyone else's opinion, all that matters is how you feel!!!
  4. Oh this is wonderful to hear. I fully realize everyone is different but it is good to hear that you can be successful. I am a self pay and am meeting with the doctor and nutrisionist on Thursday. After that I will be scheduled for an upper GI and EKG and then surgery will be scheduled. The doctors said it goes very quickly when you are self pay so I am looking forward to having surgery this month. It's time to get healthy!!!!
  5. I was diagnosed 9 years ago with Type 1 diabetes. The day I was diagnosed, I was also told I also have Hypothyroidsim (which means my thyroid is underactive). I was placed on Synthroid and to be quite honest, when I would try to lose weight I would be successful. This all stopped about a year ago, it has seemed virtually impossible for me to lose weight. My levels are monitored every three months by my Endocronologyst and I am in control. I am scared to death that I am going to pay all this money to get my band and that I will not lose any weight. I would really appreciate any input from anyone out there with an underactive thyroid and what you've gone through and how you're doing on the band. I don't care if the weight takes a little longer to come off, what I'm scared to death about is that I won't lose anything.
  6. Thank you for your response. That is wonderful that you have lost so much weight already. I have done a ton of research on this and from everything I've read it seems that weight loss is very possible if your levels are in check. Many people have stated that they have had to lower their dosage as they lose weight. I'm very hopeful that I am successful.
  7. Hello All!! I have decided to get Lapband Surgery done even after my insurance company informed me that they do not cover weight loss surgery. The cost will be $18,000 not including each fill. This is a lot of money but I've spent this many times over the course of my life on new vehicles so I figure it's surely worth a lifestyle change!! I am very concerned though becuase I have done a ton of research and have read the blogs on this forum and it looks like there are a number of people that haven't been successfull losing weight. It also appears from what I'm reading the the after-care isn't always the greatest. I am terrified of spending this kind of money only to not lose weight. If anyone out there can give me any advise or make any sense of what I've read I would really appreciate it. Good luck to all of you!!!

    Unsure

Thank you ladies for your reply. I totally agree with the both of you. This is my last resort and irregardless of how much it costs, I have to do something because I am miserable in my own skin. I pray that your surgery goes well. Please keep me updated as to how you are doing. I am most likely going to have surgery in August and although I am scared to death, I know that it will be worth it. Much love to both of you!!!!!
