I Can See The "end" In Sight...that Leads To A New Beginning...
JustDoIt130 replied to JustDoIt130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TWI- how long did it take for them to approve you? I just found out that they submitted my info last week. Does it help to call the insurance company? Or does that honk them off and they delay, LOL. I just see the end in sight, don't want it derailed. I'm glad my surgery people understand!! -
Good for you! I am going on day 2 with no soda- it has been so hard, but the results will be worth it! I hope to have a surgery date soon, so might as well get going now.

Surgery Worries
JustDoIt130 replied to angelofmusic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stress about the IV, LOL- I dislike needles! I have a mental checklist in my head of things I don't like, and just check them off as they go by. I was put under for one of my c-sections- it happened so quickly!! -
What about plain old Instant Breakfast? I saw on mine that with milk it's 23 g protein- and my nut said that your body can only digest 25 g or so protein at a time, so any more in the shake is just a waste?

6 Month Required Physician Visits???
JustDoIt130 replied to KathyLynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had the 6 month required doctor's visits- mine started with my pcp, not with the surgeon. I had called the surgeon to inquire about lap band, and they called my insurance company to get all the info. It went by really fast, and I can't believe my info is in to the insurance company. It is good to use the time for introspection and wrapping your mind around the changes that are to come. -
I Can See The "end" In Sight...that Leads To A New Beginning...

LOL, B-52, I know, those needles are gigantic!! I have more trouble with needles and blood than just needles, so I should be good It is exactly as you said- those people who will support- ie, my husband and mom, will know, everyone else won't. Just my personal decision. It's all crazy with rumors about what AA is going to be doing to insurance, pay, etc. So I'm checking in with my surgeon to make sure all is submitted, and to explain that we really need to stay on it. I am not good at waiting. -
Trading One Obsession For Another

I am very worried about this- I think that I too will need to switch it to working out -
I just posted a bit of this somewhere else, but thought it was maybe the wrong place. I just had the last appointment of the insurance required 6 months diet/exercise followed by a doctor. I HATE having my blood taken (I'm a fainter), so I have put it off- I went once only to discover that it had to be a fasting blood draw. So tomorrow first thing I'm getting it done. I think that only takes a couple days to get back. I have a call into the place doing my surgery about next steps- I know they submit to insurance, and that technically my insurance (BCBS of TX, even though I live in NC) can take 30 days to approve....and we just found out that there is a possibility that my DH may get laid off on 1/27 or so. So he could be laid off with no insurance just as I'm being approved! I have insurance at my work I can then get, but who knows if they even cover lapband, I never checked since I'm on DH's. Today my blood pressure was sky high- 140/108- the stress! And DH is giving me some grief about having it done now, it's all so stressful, I just want it to be done so I can move on with the rest of my life! I guess I just have to look at it as it will happen, just a matter of how, and I am worth it! Thanks for letting me vent, I'm just so stressed and really want this to work out

Getting Close To Lap Band Surgery
JustDoIt130 replied to Kristen1969's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there- I too just had my last appointment of my 6 months required doctor's visits. Now I have to do my blood work, then submit to insurance! Then...surgery, I guess. It's nerve wracking- and my DH may be laid off before the end of January, we'll see if we can get everything done before that. I know that technically my insurance (BCBS of TX) has 30 days to approve it... Good luck to you! It's weird to be so close!! -
So I'm just feeling like I need to eat everything I don't think I can eat after I get banded!! "Oh, I'd better get some (insert crappy food here) since I don't know if I'll ever be able to eat it again!!" And I do and I eat it. I am about 2 months out or so from having the lap band done- I have to do a 6 month physician monitered diet - November is month 5, December month 6 then submitted to insurance, so surgery sometime in January or February 2012. I know some people can eat whatever they want, just small amounts, some people have things they just cant' eat- and I know it's different for everyone! Thing is........ This is all completely mental. Mental as in all in my head- I'm not hungry for this stuff, it's just the thought of MAYBE not being able to eat it again in my life! So dumb but help.

How much protein is too much ?
JustDoIt130 replied to GoBanana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's my understanding that the body can't process more than about 25 grams of Protein per meal, so totally loading up on it doesn't work. My nutritionist said 60-90 grams a day to keep the body from using calories from muscle, to not loose your hair, etc. -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
JustDoIt130 replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutritionist said that some saline naturally evaoprates from the band over time as well, which is why even with good restriction you may need a minor tweak now and then. This is all such good info!! I can wait to be banded!! -
I had my psych consult this morning. The counselor said that we make decisions based on two things- emotions/feelings and wants. Emotions and feelings are our present or perhaps past things- but wants are future things. The example he gave is- if you get up in the morning and aren't feeling super great, you still probably go to work anyways because you want a paycheck, or to save up your vacation for something else, or because you want to finish or do something important at work, etc. Even though you FEEL kind of crummy, your WANT for those other things dictate your decision to go ahead and go in to work. And the closer you get to work, usually you start feeling a bit better. Once in awhile we feel so bad that we do stay home, but that's not the usual course. He said that making decisions based on what we WANT helps us to decide things based on future outcomes. Basing us on feelings and emotions keeps us stuck in the present, or even the past. So make decisions based on WANTS- and not on emotions and feelings. Once in awhile the emotions and feelings take over, but if that becomes rare, then it's manageable. Feelings and emotions pass. Wants- I want to be healthy, I want to sit in the airplane seat comfortably when I go on vacation, I want to look good at my daughter's wedding- those will lead us to better decision making in the long run. I hope this is coherent. It was a good psych consult!
