    First Two Weeks...

I have to say that I really like the Unjury as well- I like that it has the chicken broth so it's not always just sweet, and the unflavored. It is a smidge more expensive, but then I'm not eating out and buying crap and eating too much of it, so I feel that I will still come out ahead money wise, LOL. To Pibble- gas-x is your friend I hear! Try that. As far as the stomach thing- not sure, can you put something between the layers, like a pantiliner folded lengthwise down it's sticky side inserted between, or a folded washcloth? I'm excited to have my two weeks- my dr only has us on clear liquids for 3-4 days, then on to the next phase- if I can't tolerate those foods then stay with the current phase for a day or two more.

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

I'm joining you too, tomorrow! Excited, and a little nervous!
  3. I have a history of embolisms following surgery, due to flying after breaking my ankle, and all my dr said was wait 2-3 weeks. Maybe try to meet the surgeon earlier, or maybe when you express concern about flying they'll do surgery sooner than 2 weeks after that appointment.

How To Make Our Marriage Survive Thru Lapband

This is a subject that is hard. I will tell you- I am the overweight one, my husband isn't- he worries too. All I can say is he married you because he loves you. And if he didn't, then he's not worth it- BUT He probably really is much more concerned about your health and having children. Why don't you consider lapband as a way to lose weight to be healthier when trying to conceive? Weight for a woman can sometimes be a factor. Plus, when you get pregnant they unfill you, then after you have the baby they can just refill you to lose the weight and be healthy for you, your husband and your children! As a mom of 4 who has been overweight for 20+ years, I can't wait to not be the fat mom, and to be able to keep up with and have the energy for my little ones! I know you're scared- any big change by a spouse that upsets the status quo can be hard. Just remember, he really loves you and is looking for ways to keep you strong and healthy for many., many more years!
  6. I just paid for mine with my fsa- just handed over my debit card, no questions asked......and as far as I know, the rules are the rules are the rules, no matter who administers the flex account?

    Pre-Op Induction Drink

pre-op induction drink? Do you mean the Protein shakes? I like the unjury protein, and truth be told, I'm really drinking a lot of carnation instant Breakfast. The other big huge thing of whey protein I bought from Wal- Mart (I think it's six star or something, black and red) I really don't like. It's all a taste to you thing- the thing I liked about Unjury is they have a sample packet that is pretty inexpensive, and it has 2 chocolate, 2 vanilla, 2 strawberry, 2 chicken broth and 2 unflavored- to try. And I think they're one of the only places that have unflavored, so you can add it to something. Hope this helps and it's what you meant, LOL. I'm on the pre-op diet right now- surgery on Thursday- already lost 8 lbs!
  8. This is so inspiring! This is what I am going to expect (yes, I know everyone is different, yes I know there are problems, etc- but I believe in the power of positive thinking!!!) I too would love your tips!!

    Lap Band Or Realize Band?

My Dr uses the Lap Band (Allergan). I asked him about the port, and he said they have re-designed it to be low profile, bigger surface area to make it easier to fill.

    Getting Cold Feet?!

My surgery is Thursday, and I'm nervous too- but the excitement trumps all that! It is fear of the unknown, but we are doing this to be happy and healthy and live long, productive lives. It's worth it!
  11. I'm so excited! Met with the surgeon and he answered all my questions- he leaves 2-3 cc's in the band at surgery, which is nice. Then follwup every 4-6 weeks, with fills then if needed. I start the pre-op liver shrinking diet on Thursday, and I'll have a lot of fun with that, LOL. I'm on my way, and I can't wait!
  12. I am just 2 days behind you on 1/26. How are you doing with the pre-op diet? I have done so much reserach on this, and the overwhelming sentiment is that people wish they'd done it sooner. The relatively short amount of time with surgery and post op seems to be totally worth it. And nerves must be normal, when I met with the anesthesiologist she asked if I wanted anything when I arrived at the hospital for nerves, and I said heck yeah!! Good luck!

    How Much Protein?

I think for men it is closer to 70-80 g protein. Remember, your body can't absorb more than about 25 g at a time, so trying to load more into a shake isn't going to help. I think shakes are fine as long as you're not going over calories because of them. I know a lot of people do them in the morning as they're tighter and/or just don't have time for eggs or whatever.
  14. My doctor said 3 Protein shakes a day and some steamed veggies- but really it's 800 calories. Yesterday I had a lunch and went over my calories, but just by a little and it's nothing I can't make up with some exercise. I just have to work on not being a total crab while feeling hungry. I have really been liking the ocean spray on the go things, I like they don't have a real aspartame aftertaste, and they're 10 calories a pack. I am excited, and I know that while this is not "magic," it will be magic for my head- I will have something that will help me not eat so much!

    Kinda Bummed...

I know a big reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. My dr told me yesterday that he'd like to see me lose 10 lbs this next week on the pre-op diet, but even 5-7 lbs makes a big difference in how easy his job is during surgery.
  16. My Dr. uses the Allergan, just his preference- and they've changed the port to a lower profile but larger surface area to make it easier for fills. I do think that either is good- both do their job!
  17. That is a great victory! I can't wait to say the same! Congratulations!!

    Meds For Lap Banders

Also, I found gummy calcium citrate at walmart- then I can just eat it as a snack, lol. Also, my dr. advises against children's Vitamins, but I've seen others say they just do 2- any thoughts?
  19. The last couple days the board has given me a server error? Anyways, glad to have you guys back to talk to, LOL I just ordered the unjury sampler pack- some chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, chicken Soup and unflavored. What do you guys think of this protein- I like the thought of the unflavored to add to things to get more Protein in. I can't have soy stuff, this is whey.... Also, what ready to drink protein stuff do you drink? And what do you think of yogurt as a source of protein?
  20. And I drank a LOT of diet soda! I'm talking, I'd buy a 2 liter and just stick a straw in it!!! We didn't have any soda in the house on Sunday, so without really thinking about it I didn't drink any and I had a HORRIBLE headache- so then I figured I might as well just keep going, so no soda yesterday and none so far today- my headache is back and I'm super crabby, but I'm done!!! Phew!
  21. I am about 10 lbs heavier than you and hope to have the same sort of success as you- in fact, I'm expecting it, so it will happen! The power of positive thinking! Thank you for posting your success, it's inspiring!!
  22. Super fast!! I can have surgery 1/19 or 1/26!!! Will decide tonight...I'm so excited!!!!

    Hair Loss

Wow, you lost almost all your hair?? I have really long very thick hair, it would be really noticeable if I lost it all!
  24. I think so- the quitting soda was the stressful thing I was worried about, so now I just have to worry about small bites, chewing ad nauseum (no pun intended) and not drinking with meals! LOL
  25. That is motivating! I turn 42 in July, so my goal is to be down 42 lbs by then (surgery in a couple weeks for me!)
