    Just Banded-July 25!

I'm just going to paste what I put in my profile-it sums up my experience thus far: I just had surgery done on July 25, 2011. I chose to have lap band surgery with the plication option-something rather new for this operation in this area (Pittsburgh). It has only been a few days since surgery so I am still on liquids but feel happy with my decision. I chose to have the plication in addition to the band because this method helps prevent band slippage and aids in a quicker weight loss. The actual stomach is not cut at all but rather "puckered" in and stiched together, sort of like in a sleeve operation. So far I have done well on the liquids....It has been rough but I am fighting through it! My only concern is that so far even after I eat my Protein meals & drink liquids, my stomach is CONSTANTLY growling! I do feel full, but not restricted. I'm wondering if the band is loose to allow time for healing? I have had minimal pain-roxicet was perscribed and works well. My incisions are nearly healed already and pain is slowly diminishing. My hospital stay was about 2 days. I have had nausea and diareahha, but no vommiting thus far! (knock on wood). I am taking a chewable Multivitamin, my prescribed medications, and pepcid to reduce acid. I was also prescribed actigall since i still have my gall bladder, this medicine prevents gall stones. Other than the constant stomach growling, I have had no other issues. I'm looking forward to eating solid foods again!!! I'm starting at about 250 and looking to eventually get down to 130. Any advice, questions, opinions are appreciated!!!
  2. I have only been banded for about a week now and I'm not really in any pain anymore. My incisions are nearly healed and I feel fine, other than some slight discomfort I am feeling on the side where the band and port or placed. If I lay on either side, the side that my band is on feels uncomfortable. Even when I'm just sitting down it is noticible, almost as if I can feel the actual band inside of me....Has anyone experienced this? Am I just still a little sore from surgery?? Any comments welcome!!! Thanks!

Discomfort around Lap Band/and or port sites??

thats what i figured. i just get paranoid and over think things lol. thanks for your help!
  6. good luck with your appointment! although you are self-pay you will most likely have to do all the pre-op testing before they give you a surgery date. do you know if you still have to do the lifestyle classes and/or meet with a pcp before hand? hopefully everything works out for u!

  7. too excited to sleep!! i'm down a total of 13 pounds since surgery (6 days) and feeling great!!! can start to see facial changes and boosts of energy! experimenting with some soft foods & am able to keep cheese down!

  8. good luck with your surgery!! my stay was about 2 days...pain is very minimal-they give you a morphine pump to control your pain with. my incisions are tiny and already healing. are you having the plication done as well?

  9. i dont personally know most of you, but i just wanted to add all the people who were mccloskey patients :)

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hello there! I was just banded on july 25 & was just as nervous about going under & the pain after since this was my first real surgery....let me tell you the pain is not that bad at all!!! i was given a morphine pump while in the hospital that i could control and other than incision site pain, there was minimal pain in my belly-more so pressure. i actually have not vommitted yet (knock on wood) and have been able to keep everything down! good luck!

    Just Banded-July 25!

yeah the pain meds make me really sleepy too! i am bored with sitting around as well!!! im thinking you may have had the plication procedure as well..,.they "pucker" your stomach in so that its a thin "tube" which allows for quicker weight loss & prevents band slippage. good luck with everything!!

lol i wish i wasnt feeling hungry, but unfortunately i am!! the grumbling is starting to annoy me! i can get 3 drinks down a day-your band may be too tight! glad to hear your surgery went well. good luck!!!
  17. I was just banded on July 25 with the plication option. So far, so good! Still on liquids so nothing to report thus far. I am happy with this decision-it helps prevent band slippage & aids in quicker weight loss.
