What To Expect On My First Lap Band Fill
Corrigan replied to amanda_leigh78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's a simple procedure and you may not notice a thing. Restriction for some doesn't come for a few fills. Everyone seems different. I'm one of the fortunate ones that haven't had a fill and still have little hunger. You may be too. -
I flipping LOVE this band!
Corrigan replied to Kellysue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In a few weeks, you'll be able to eat almost everything. This will be your real test. Until you start getting fills, your hunger may run rampant. some people have a hard time with it, some not. I hope you get lucky with it. -
Most people who have that type of pain think it's muscle pain, but if it's severe and she's really worried, give her doctor a call, just to be sure.

after surgery food in the house question
Corrigan replied to pendulum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your object is to lose weight. There are always going to be temptations everywhere. this is the hard part, it takes time, but someday in the far, far future, you'll be able to look a pizza straight in the eye and not even be tempted. I know it seems impossible, but it will happen. In the meantime you are going to have to grit your teeth and just work yourself through it. We (my wife and I) seem to be food hoarders, we have two freezers, a large pantry and a triple door refrigerator, all full-- for two people! We can eat for years on what we have, but I just ignore it and drink my little shake and try not to think about the good 'ol days. Right now, I dwell on the diabetes i've beat, and the sleep apnea I used to have and all the clothes I've given to Goodwill, and the newfound energy I have and figure maybe it wasn't such a bad trade, after all. I hope you get to this point, too. -
It'll probably be a few weeks before it's comfortable. You need to heal a bit before you begin to put much pressure on your port site. You might be able to put enough pillows around to be almost able to sleep on your stomach, but be careful.

Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown MD
Corrigan replied to VWLisaWV's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm happy you found a surgeon you're happy with. Your band will probably be empty when you're discharged. Some surgeons put enough saline in to check everything, but then remove it so you can heal normally. Best of luck. -
Suggestions for Protein-rich breakfast
Corrigan replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walmart sells tubes of protien liquid, called, oddly enough, Protein shots that give you about 1/2 daily amount of protein. They also sell bars w/ 8-10 grams. you can go to any health food store and find quick protein sources. -

Corrigan replied to iwanttheband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A numberof people on this site have lost 200lbs and more in a year or two. I have lost 50 lbs in 10 weeks. It mostly depends on you and how hard you want to work. The band is only an aid to help you on your diet, you have to contribute too. -
I've had a similar experience. I was banded about 10 weeks ago, didn't have any pain, walked 2 miles the day after, I can eat and drink<br />as I always did, but don't have any hunger to speak of, the only protein drink I care for is Muscle Milk from Costco, and of course, some<br />hate it (I buy vanilla, it mixes with anything). I haven't had any fills yet, and probably won't if I don't have any hunger. My surgeon<br />said the way he pulled my stomach up, over the band caused the little sensors that cause hunger, to not be as sensitive, if that makes<br />any sense. On any diet, you should be getting 600 to800 grams of protein, and total calories is really up to your doctor, but 800 to<br />a thousand is probably scensible. I have quite a bit of information on caloric uptake, but it can be contradictory, so you have to take<br />bit and pieces and try to make sense of it.

not losing any weight and not feeling very good about it
Corrigan replied to shanicebarrass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is an article on this site called "5 day pouch test", look in searchbox or check Google. A number of people have used this to get back on track, you might give it a try, it's free and just might help you. -
I am UPSET!!, DR. Krahn's staffs....(San Bernardino, CA)
Corrigan replied to CaliGirl626's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I live just down the road from you, my PCP recommended Cedars- Sinai and i went to their initial consultation and was very impressed with the professionalism they exibited. After a few weeks of tests and classes I had my surgery there. This was the very best hospitable I've been in in my entire life. The surgeon met with me three times and the day of surgery, he came to my room before and after, and Called twice after surgery. When I left it was all hugs and kisses, you'd have thought I was a long lost uncle. This is the largest hospital I've ever seen, also the best. I've had no pain, walked two miles the day after and have lost 50lbs in eight weeks. I have no hunger to speak of, haven't had a fill, and may not if hunger isn't a problem. Give them a call and see if you're as impressed as I was. 310 4235619 I'm not a shill for them, just a very satisfied customer, by the way they're also a Center of Excellence. -
Yes, and it gives you additional protein to prevent muscle loss.

Can't eat much in morning
Corrigan replied to Kellysue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See if a warm drink will help. -
If it's causing you a great deal of discomfort, you probably should go see someone, just to be safe. I'd guess you'll likely<br />be OK, but no scense taking chances. I hope you be alright.

Welcome to you.

What Makes You Get A Lap Band Fill?
Corrigan replied to formykids2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not getting hungry either, but I'm not eating much and losing about 2-3 lbs a week. I haven't had a fill, but I keep my appointments with my surgeon just to make myself feel better. The fact that you're not losing weight is a problem, some people are excusing that by saying a person is in starvation mode, but if you're not losing muscle, you must be finding calories somewhere. Try keeping a diary, and put down every food item you put in your mouth. That helps some folks. Some time you'll lose and gain in spurts, I have an article explaining it, but mainly i'ts just glycogen coming and going. Good luck and I hope you get back to your weight loss. -
Protein shakes (Canadian)...anyone have a recommendation?
Corrigan replied to needamulligan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
costco has a powdered Protein powder called Muscle Milk the can be mixed with Water or skim milk. I like it, but there are many protein drinks on the market and each one has it own devoties, so you just have to findd the one you like. Our spell checker quit so forive me my transgressions -
Hi Jean, I'm originally from Naperville. Our web site is screwed up today so bear with us. You mentioned a web site that is a<br />"Site that must not be mentioned" here : > ). To answer your question about liquids, I like Costco's Muscle Milk protien powder<br />mixed with skim milk and their Chicken Boullon powder as a hot drink. I put some protein isolate powder in it for extra protein.<br />You can get protein isolate (pure protein) powder on line, or in most health food stores. It has to be mixed in a little cold water<br />before you add it to anything hot or it'll clump up. Good luck with everything and come back often to let us know how you're<br />doing.

Why not buy a Wii system and involve family members? It has a fairly accurate scale, any number of games and excercises.<br />I'm not much of a game player, but I enjoy it (with my grandkids).<br />For energy, my nutritionist said that vitamin B12 helps with fatigue, especially if you're deficient. I am a recovering diabetic and I've been on a kick lately to make people, especally those on restricted, liquid diets aware<br />of the symptoms of low blood sugar. If folks find themselves shaky, nervious, sweating AND hungry, a little glucose may relieve those<br />symtoms: note I said a little, not a box of donuts ; . ). Fruit juice, table sugar or even a piece of bread should give temporary relief. Your body<br />graually adjusts to your new blood sugar, and low (over 70) levels are no longer a problem. I went from 150-200 before WLS and now<br />that I've lost 50 lbs, 75-100.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Where is our spell checker??

Questions for lap-band info session next week
Corrigan replied to medicgipson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I'd ask "How much money up front", If it's more than just enough to cover the seminar, I'd run, not walk to a reputable Hospital. -
<br /><br /><br Good for you, now the real work begins!
-
I doubt if it will cause a problem, but you probably should mention it to your surgeon's staff. WEB SITE PROBLEMS!
