  1. I am an anxious person too. Try to do things that relax you leading up to your surgery and find someone to talk to about it. Even if it's this board. Just talk it out. Then think of all of the people on here who have had the surgery and everything turned out fine and how happy they are and how much happier you will be and HEALTHIER after it's all said and done. If you still have a lot of anxiety ask your surgeon for something for your nerves you can take the morning of your surgery. I always ask for something to take the morning of my surgergy (yes I have had a few too many) and it really helps keeps me from shaking and sweating and from my mind wondering to the worst case scenario. Some people are more anxious than others and there is nothing wrong with that. Good Luck!

    OMG It moved!!!!

Good news for you and funny story!
  5. Thank you for the WASA suggestion. I haven't been able to tolerate bread of any kind since surgery. Sounds like you find this in the cracker aisle?

    Newbie here

Good luck, you will find a lot of support here. I had my surgery in August and any question that I have had usually had already been asked and answered. This has been a lifeline for me through this journey. Enjoy!

    Throwing up

I had my 6 week check up Tuesday and the doctor told me to take either Prilosec or Zantac OTC either one. I was having some of those same issues. I will see if it helps. They aso mentioned that at 6 weeks out you are still very swollen inside. Have most people had success with the OTC meds or have you had to get a prescription strength?
  11. You look amazing and all that in 6 months is a super accomplishment. Congratulations!

How long did you wait to drive?

I waited about a week and a half. The doctor said wait two weeks. I quit taking the Lortab after one week so I felt I was good to drive after being off of that for a few days. Always listen to your doctor of course. But if you aren't taking narcotics I would think you would be okay to drive. Note that I am NOT a medical professional though. LOL

    6 week check up

you are doing great, congratulations and enjoy your new menu!
  14. I also am a month out and lost 16 pounds. I think 16 pounds is a great number for one month. That averages 4 pounds a week that I would never have lost without the sleeve. Sure it may be slower than you would like or not as fast as others weight loss but I am sure weight will continue to come off. I hope you don't get to discouraged.

    Throwing up

I'm 4 weeks out and the only things I keep down every time are yogurt and cheese sticks. So for lunch that is what I bring so I don't get sick at work. I have trouble with meat as well and bread. I tried to make a half grilled cheese with whole grain bread and that didn't go well. I was hoping that as time goes by it would get easier to eat meat especially since it is high in protein. Good luck.
  18. I was given the 5/30 rule. Nothing to drink 5 minutes before and 30 minutes after. I forget sometimes but I'm only 4 weeks out. It is getting easier as time passes.
  19. Great information everyone. Thank you.
  20. I am 4 weeks out on 9/15 and I had the same problems. This week it seems to be better and I am trying new things. I used to love avocado and I have tried eating it 3 times since surgery and each time it has made me sick. I have just been trying to eat six times a day. I think that helps since you really can't eat much. I work with a woman who also was sleeved a few months ago, she said it gets better with time. She got sick for the first couple of months trying to figure out what she could eat. Good Luck!

    First post op check up

I think that is an awesome amount to lose in 2 weeks. I had surgery on 8/15 and I am only down 10 pounds since surgery. My surgery weight was 235 and and only down to 224.6. Keep up the good work. I'm going for my post op today and was going to ask about the Mederma cream myself. I have heard good things about it.

    surgery 08/15 and pain

I also had surgery on 8/15 and had really bad left side pain over this past weekend. Yesterday it seemed to lighten up. Today I go for my 2 week post op. I hope it gets better for you.

When did you feel good post op

I had my sleeve Monday 8/15 and came home Wednesday. I started feeling a bit normal Friday. However I still do have pain on my left side and mostly when I get up or sit down or in and out of bed. I also am still not able to bend over and pick anything up. But energy seems okay. I have been trying to take two protein drinks a day, one in the morning and one at night and liquids in the middle. I think that is helping with my energy. Today will be the first test, as I have a graduation party and some shopping to do. My husband will be driving though as I still take the Lortab if I have pain but I have gotten it down to 2-3 times per day.
  24. Last night I went to a Kid Rock concert. It was my last public event as the old Me. Tomorrow is my surgery day and the birth of the new Me. I had a great time even though I couldn't drink. I think I am so excited about tomorrow that not drinking didn't even bother me. I usually only drink a couple of times a year anyway, but when I had bought those tickets it was for a rare night out with friends for a great time! I still had a great time anyway. We went out to eat and went to a bar downtown before the concert started. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, no fries. At the bar I had Water and was fine with that too. We made our way to Comerica Park for the concert and when we got to the seats I sat down and felt squished. I was totally fine with the fact that is the last time I am going to have to squueze my butt into a little seat and try hard to keep my arms in so as not to bump the people next to me and spill over into their space. Luckily we stood up once the music started and that wasn't as much an issue. I of course couldn't help to think several times during the night, squeezing into the booth, the small bathroom stall and then the stadium seat, how much better I was going to FEEL after I use this tool to accompish what I have struggled with for my entire life. Today I started my one day all liquid diet. It's 7 pm and I haven't really had a problem yet with hunger. I had some hunger pains this morning but after those passed, I have been okay. I thought it would be worse as I have had to prepare food for my kids. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am. So early! Yet I probably won't sleep much tonight. I don't feel nervous or scared, I feel excited. I feel like the first time in my life I have a chance to actually have some real control over my body. I feel like this time when I make those changes and eat right and eat less, I will see some results and keep going. I'm the type of person that when something needs to get done, I like to just jump in and get it done. I don't want to wait until the last minute or do some now do some later. I like results and clean desk without piles of work that I have time to do but "will get to later". This has been some of my problem over the years with dieting. You lose some weight and you do the right things and then nothing. I worked out 5 days a week last year for 6 months and didn't even lose 20 pounds. That was with watching what I are as well. Then this year I had gotten a personal trainer and actually never lost a pound the whole time I was working with him. I got so tired of hearing muscle weighs more than fat that I wanted to wring anyone's neck who said that to me again. So here's to tomorrow. A new beginning, a new chance, a whole new way to live.

If I can make it work after VSG...

Everyone has some really good point that they are sharing with you. Ulitmately it is your decision and you have to decide what is right for you. I can bet that most people who have WLS don't get a consult after failing one or two diets. They get a consult when they have tried so many diets they lose count. There are many thing that we can't accomplish on our own and need help for. I consider this the same thing. I have a goal but I need some help to get there. I need someone to remove the biggest roadblock I have (volume) and then working on those other roadblocks I hope will be a whole lot easier. My surgery is tomorrow! Good luck in your decision.
