tired of water, what to drink?

caffeine is a diuretic which makes our bodies expel the liquid faster than normal, that is wy they don't want us taking in any caffeine. I used to LOVE my water, now not so much. :-) I drink Crystal Light, I'm allowed to drink 8 oz of V8 juice per day which I love, & two glasses of skim milk per day. All count towards your fluid intake. Sometimes I'll add some milk to flavored iced coffee with some Splenda. Sugar free popsicles also count as liquid. Edy's makes a really good no sugar added berry posicles. I also enjoy the sugar free Fla*Vor*Ice freezer pops. Hope that gives you some ideas.....
  3. I lost 9 pounds on the pre-surg diet, then after surgery I lost a pound a day for the first week. In week number two I gained and lost the same pound over and over again. My doctor told me the most discouraging thing to do is to weigh yourself daily. It's difficult, but I stay off the scale until Sunday morning now. I lost 6 pounds in my third week. I've been told that our bodies will hit several plataues before we hit our goal weight and that it is very normal. If you are getting too discouraged, just keep doing what you're doing and visit your scale less often.

My doctor told me to plan on 4 to 6 weeks at home to get used to my new lifestyle. I'm at four weeks today with my four week follow up appointment on Friday. At that time we will determine if I need any additional time off. Physically, I felt that I could hvae gone back to work a week or two after surgery, but my surgeon thought it was too soon.

I think that's a normal response. That's all that I thought about too. Keep yourself occupied with other things and before you know it the procedure will be done!! Hang in there!

    Five days Post-Op

If anyone had told me I'd feel this good five days post op, I would have thought they were crazy! Like everyone says, every day gets better and better. My biggest issue was from one incision that wasn't healing as fast as the rest. I put an ice pack on that incision on Saturday and by Sunday, all the swelling, redness, etc. had disappeared. My pain level was never very high - even in the hospital. I haven't taken any pain meds since Friday (my first day home). There's minor discomfort now, but nothing to get worked up about. I've lost 15 pounds since I started the pre-op diet on 07/11 and 7 of those pounds just in the past five days. My blood sugars went down to normal before I was discharged from the hospital on Friday and haven't been above 100 since!

    Five days Post-Op

I haven't been hungry at all since surgery. My prescribed diet is pureed meals until next week when I will get to start eating soft foods. I haven't felt hungry nor weak. I'm not sure why some facilities/doctors tell patients to stay on a liquid diet in the beginning. That has to be very difficult!!!
  11. Five days post-op and feel amazing!!!

    Uti

I received a call last Wednesday from the Nurse Manager telling me my pre-admission tests found a UTI. I had no symptoms. They put me on bactrim for seven days. My pills are huge too. Luckily, I only have one left!!! They were making me terribly nauseous.
  13. Tomorrow at this time I will be in recovery! I'm down 9 lbs on the pre-surg diet. The nausea has subsided, now I'm just really anxious to get this going!!

  14. Two days from surgery...I am so anxious that I'm nauseous and can barely eat.

  15. Hair loss occurs due to the stresses on your body after surgery. Your body uses all the protein it receives to keep your organs functioning. The hair is the lowest member of the food chain. Some people start taking a vitamin called biotin (aka Vitamin H) before surgery. This vitamin helps feed your hair, skin, and nails. Some people use Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and scalp therapy to help stimulate the scalp and protect the hair follicles. I have five days before my surgery and are currently using both products to help combat hair loss. As many people say, the hair will come back, but the weight will not. It's a temporary condition.
  16. Five days to surgery! Unfortunately, yesterday I had to start taking Bactrim for a bladder infection that I didn't know I had. Ugh. Feeling nauseous this morning from the meds. Other than that, I'm getting more and more excited to join the size 4 Levi's and 100 lb loss milestone!!

  17. Day 4 of the Pre-Surg diet. Two hours after breakfast, my blood glucose was 96! 96! One hundred and thirty eight hours to surgery. Up till now I was just nervous...after seeing everyone's progress, I'm getting excited!

3 day on pre op diet

I'm on day three of the pre-op diet too. Just this morning I realized that I haven't had any headaches or jitters. I started not drinking with my meals a while ago and I think that may help. Froedtert Health tells us not to drink anything 30 before a meal and nothing until 30 minutes after a meal. It helps satisfy the hunger and lets your body process the proteins. Monday I drank water with dinner and a couple hours later, I was very hungry!! Last night I fought through the little bit of hunger I had by keeping busy until bed time.
  19. Down 5 pounds in two days on the Pre-Op Diet!!

  20. Think back to why you wanted the surgery in the first place. My process started in March 2011 and my surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday. There have been a number of times that I second guessed my decision and thought I should just give it "one more try" or just not have the surgery at all ("I must be crazy" thinking). From the time I made the decision to have surgery, it's been very taxing on my psyche. I have to continue to be absolutely honest with myself to see that I'm doing the right thing. For the first time in my life, I'm being honest with myself and accepting my bad habits, which include validating my bad behaviors. Surgery is not a way to give up, or to take the easy route, as many people believe. It is a tool to be used with determination, hardwork and dedication. I wish you the best on your decision!!!
  21. Completed all of my Pre-Admission testing! Can't believe I'm a week away from surgery!!!

    Protein

Froedtert Health highly discourages the use of protein shakes as well because it is liquid intake that will not stay with you. They recommend putting powdered egg whites on your food to increase your protein intake. They also recommend adding powdered milk to the required 2 glasses of skim milk. If you do the latter, be sure to mix it in a blender and let it sit overnight in the fridge; otherwise, your milk will be grainy.
  23. Day 1 of the Pre-Op diet! Only 9 more days to surgery!

    Hair loss

seelessofme32, the supplement you are referring to is called Biotin (aka Vitamin H). I started taking it last week to prep for surgery. My providers told me I could continue taking it up until surgery then start again one month after surgery to help with hair loss. Hope that helps.
