Do you like being overweight?
Suzannesh replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have a lot of great questions. I still NEVER feel hungry. I just know I need to eat. I have an excellent restrictions. My sleeve works everyday because of the restriction. I walk 7 days a week because I love it. I used to be the person who hated to exercise. So the best way to describe how I maintain my weight loss is calories in calories out. I eat about 1,200 calories a day and with the walking I maintain my 105 weight loss. On an average day. I start with -

YEAH! for you. Reading your story was almost like a page out of my book. I had 100 pounds to lose, went on all the same diets only to regain it back again. I felt like such a failure. My body also hurt. Now life is GREAT, I walk 7 days a week, and I have walked now 138 days in a row without missing one day. I love the sleeve. The 1st month after WLS will be the hardest month you will ever have to do in your life, but it is ONLY 30 days and you can do anything for 30 short days. I am always out here to cheer you on and support you 100% of the time. Please contact me if you want to talk or have any questions. I am so proud and happy for you! Hugs, Suzanne -

Hi again another person who loved who she was--I was also that way and much older that either one of you. My back was starting to hurt, I had a pain in my leg, and I also knew it was time to change my life. I didn't just wake up one morning and say I was going to have weight loss surgery--it took time and a lot of research before I know what I wanted to do. I had tired a lot of diets and lost weight ONLY to regain it back. You made the choice for better health and that was the right thing to do. YOU are the only one who could change things. This is ALL about YOU and no one else. I am so happy and proud of what you have done. Hugs, Suzanne -

Protein Drinks and foods you can eat the 1st few months
Suzannesh posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
I have been asked so many times on this board about what Protein drinks are good and some sample meals that I used during the first month and things I did after the 1st month. These are very valid questions and I know when I first started out I had all the same questions. Again this is long so please print this out if you would like. Please remember these are the things Dr. Aceves wanted me to do. Remember you should do what your doctor wants you to do. These are just my suggestions of what worked well for me. Protein Drinks. My all-time favorite is: Premier Protein Drink. It comes in 11 oz. drink boxes already mixed. There are 30 grams of protein in each box, 160 calories per box, 1 gram of sugar and 5 grams of carbs. The flavor I buy is Chocolate—that is all I can find at costco. I get mine at Costco and I understand that you can get them at Sam’s Club too. You can order these on line at Costco and Sam’s club. They are also available at this Web Site. Breakfast and nothing else and it has been almost 3 years since my “sleeve surgery.” The next Protein Drink that I have tried is called: Matrix 2.0 Mint Cookies made by Syntrax. You can check this out on this Web Site. nectar, variety pack, you get 13 single servings in a variety pack. The cost is $22.95. This is the Web Site and they are made by Syntrax also. Isopure. It does NOT taste good to me—I know that some people like it. I call it Isopuke, and it reminds me of pond scum. I have been told if you buy it at a GNC and don’t like it and still have your receipt they will refund your money if it hasn’t been more than 30 days since you purchased it from them. I guess they will do that with protein powers too—ask before you buy what their policy is about returning something if you don’t like it. So if you want to try it remember this. There always seems to be a GNC in most Malls. This 1st month after weight loss surgery is going to be the hardest one to do. You just get tired of what they want you to do. It is for a reason—the doctors know what they are doing. You need to let your new stomach heal from a major surgery, so that is why you have to do these things the 1st month. You should try to keep your calories at 800 per day and no more than 20 carbs a day if you want to lose weight. The 1st month you really don’t eat a lot. So in the following months keep track of everything you are putting in your mouth. You can track what you eat on this site. I found it to be very helpful to write down EVERYTHING I was putting into my body. If I didn’t write it down I was going over 800 calories per day and would not know I was. It does take time to keep track of it—you are worth the effort, but once you get the hang of it you will know what 800 calories really are. When you exercise this site helps you figure out the number of calories you have burned and that allows you to eat more than 800 calories. It is an easy site to use and it if FREE. broth. I used and love “Better Than Bouillon.” It comes in a jar and it is like a paste. I like it because it tastes great and you can make single servings. It is located with bouillon cubes and Soups in the grocery store. I had chicken and beef. I also made some home chicken Soup and strained everything out of it and just had the chicken broth. I would try to have ¼ of a cup of it for part of my meal, but sometimes it was just too much for me. Remember you have a new smaller stomach and it is swollen and can only hold about as much as the size of your thumb. Jello-- sugar free. I might have 2 tablespoons of Jello. That was something I had fixed and ready when I got home from the hospital. I tried to drink 64 oz. of Water and sometimes I could get it in and sometimes I couldn’t. Do the best you can, and just sip it all day long. I would add Crystal Light to the water—it made water taste a whole lot better. Apple juice, white grape juice, sugar free sports drinks, decaf hot tea, also decaf ice tea. Veggie broth or the broth from French Onion soup. Sugar Free Popsicles if my stomach was upset this really seemed to help. The 2nd 10 days. This was much easier to do. If I didn’t mention it, it was difficult for me to swallow my medication so I would crush the medication up and mix it with about 1 tablespoon of applesauce and some Equal and mix my meds in the applesauce and take my medication that way. You will have creamy foods the next 10 days I loved so many of the creamy soups. I used regular Campbell’s creamy soups that they had. I was only having about ¼ cup or maybe a few tablespoons of soup. Jello was still good for me. Sugar Free pudding, maybe 2 tablespoons full. Yogurt a few tablespoons of it. Frozen yogurt. Applesauce a couple tablespoons. A little cream cheese. Sugar Free Fudge Cycles. Premier Protein chocolate Drink mixed in blender with about 4 ice cubes and 1 cap full of Miralax. When you have a lot of protein you get constipated and Miralax works for that. It is tasteless and blends really great in the blender with the protein drink. I use the Miralx daily and it is NOT habit forming. Soft boiled eggs or soft scrambled eggs—eggs didn’t work that well for me. Low fat Chocolate milk. Cottage Cheese. Sugar Free Popsicles Creamy Peanut Butter. The 3rd 10 days and final part of the first month. Yeah the 1st month is almost over. I could eat mushy food. This was more of a challenge than I thought it would be. Mashed sweet potato or mashed yams with a small amount of butter on it. Mashed up chicken noodle soup. Mashed up homemade veggie soup. Eggs that were soft boiled or soft scrambled. Applesauce. Cottage cheese. Premier Protein Drink with miralax blended in the blender with 4 ice cubes. Mashed up steamed carrots Mashed up and blended a little tuna with a small amount of mayo. Blended chicken breast with no skin on it. Ham blended with a small amount of mayo. Water with Crystal Light Jello with fat free cool whip. Yogurt and frozen yogurt. Sugar free pudding. Protein Bars chewed up really well—I could never eat a whole one—just a few bites. Mashed potatoes and cream cheese mixed in with them. Mashed black Beans they have a lot of protein in them. I would have about 1/4 the a cup and that is about 9 grams of protein Sugar Free Popsicles Hard Boiled eggs made into egg salad. If I went out to eat I found that a cup of soup was about the best thing I found that I could eat. I also felt like I was on display sometimes because family and friends would watch me eat. It used to bother me, but not anymore. I watched them eat and I thought to myself. “Oh my gosh they inhale their food and they hardly chew it.” I was always the last one to finish eating. That is OK too. At first I actually mourned the loss of food. Later on I was thrilled that I had the restriction of a sleeve because I was losing weight. I found that chicken and fish were easier to chew and I liked them a lot more than red meat. I said that chicken was one of the main sources of protein for me. I found Kirkland (Costco brand) grilled Chicken breast strips. It is already cooked and I would put one bag (1 pound) in the freezer and use the other (1 pound bag later.) It is really handy to have around and a quick meal to fix if the chicken is already cooked. We also ate more fish. I would buy Halibut or Sole—a mild fish. I would marinate it in OJ or crushed strawberries or blueberries all day. I would also marinate it in law calories Italian Salad Dressing all day. I would cook it in a pan with Pam spray and put garlic or rosemary in the pan when I was cooking it. I don’t eat a lot of red meat and I used to be a real red meat lover. For me it took too much chewing and it just didn’t taste as good as it used to. I will now have a small hamburger and only eat 1/3 to ½ because it just is too much food for me. Ham was something that worked well for me too. I found I could get a large think slice of from the grocery story deli and I would have it for a protein—I would slice off about 2 oz. of the ham. I also enjoy a Taco Salad and I make mine with chicken instead of beef. I love Shrimp and lobster too, so those are my treats that I reward myself with. A typical meal I ate starting the 2nd month after WLS. Breakfast: Premier Protein Drink with Miralax and 4 ice cubes in the blender. Lunch: 2 oz. of chicken or ham with a small amount of cheese melted over it. I would have a bean salad—it has 4 different beans in it. Snack: I would have about 10 dry roasted almonds and maybe 10 dried cherries Dinner: 2 oz. of Chicken or Fish, steamed veggies of some kind. Sometimes my husband and I would split a small baked potato I put a teaspoon of butter and sour cream on it. Snack: Some type of fresh fruit or a Protein Bar. Carbs and what to eat and what NOT to eat About the 3rd month after WLS I would add a little bread in my diet—I could only eat about ½ a slice of bread or ½ of a hamburger bun and they are the “thin” buns that they have out now. They also make a thin bagel. You just have to look when you are shopping in your local grocery store for these things. Try to find Whole Grain carb products and if you can’t the do the whole wheat. Try to stay away from WHITE carbs. They are white refined carbs and that is how we got fat eating a lot of them. Rice should be brown rice and only a small amount—NO white rice. Pasta comes is Spinach or Whole Wheat and you can have only small amounts of it. banana – Medium size has 27 Grams of carbs—I stay away from the banana, and I love them, but I just don’t want to spend all my carbs for the day on a banana. I use a Mexican soft flour shell made of spinach or sun dried tomatoes for making a small sandwich too—you know they call them wraps. Beverage: They do not want you to drink something when you eat—you need the room for the food so that you can get your protein in firsts. During the day I would have water or decaf tea for my liquid after I ate or all during the day. As I said the Crystal Light Individual packs and different flavors worked well in a bottle of water. It seems like it took me forever to eat and drink all the things I was supposed to be eating and drinking. I was always sipping on the protein drink and water. supplements you should take. It is important that you take a multi-Vitamin. I had a difficult time trying to swallowing large pills. Look for an Adult Chewable multi-vitamin. I also have the Chocolate Chewable Calcium that I buy at Costco. As time goes on it will get easier to swallow larger pills. Do NOT take the multi-vitamin on an empty stomach, it may make you sick. My Primary Care doctor was very helpful and after I had been home 2 weeks from WLS, she had me come into for an office visit. She ran a full blood panel and made sure all my levels were ok. I knew my potassium was low when I left Dr. Aceves in Mexicali—they ran my blood test before I left and gave me a very detailed report about my surgery to give to my doctor here in the US. Dr. Aceves told me to have it watched when I got home. I now take a potassium tablet prescribed by my doctor and work on eating food high in potassium. Starting the 3rd month I started to eat more salads about here. I had a favorite and still eat it. It is Fresh Spinach, with slices of almonds, feta cheese, dried cherries, or fresh strawberries, a tablespoon of bacon and Paul Newman’s Light Raspberry & Walnut dressing on it. I sometimes add some of my Kirkland (Costco) Grilled Chicken breast strips to it and then it is an entire meal in one bowl. Chef’s Salad is a great one meal in a bowl thing to have and I just use any kind of dressing I want on it. This salad has lettuce, tomatoes, olives, sliced hard boiled eggs, turkey or chicken, and some ham sliced on it with some cheese. REMEMBER make this in a much smaller bowl than the normal Chef’s salad comes in. Sometimes I will add a small amount of Whole Grain dinner roll or some bread with it. Stir Fry is a great way to get meat and veggies all in one meal too. I have a pan that works great on the BBQ grill and I do a stir fry on the BBQ in the summer time. Have a sense of adventure and take some of your old recipes and see if you can convert them into a healthier recipe. Use veggies that you have never tried. Try some “rubs” on you meat located in the spice section or the grocery store and try to marinate some of your meats all day before cooking them—it really changes the taste of them. Desert I don’t want you to feel deprived. I learned that sometime just a bite or two of a desert really satisfied my need for it. Instead of the WHOLE piece of cake or pie, just a sliver of it worked for me to satisfy my need for it. When you want a cookie have just one small cookie and not the entire bag OK. Sugar free pudding with a small amount of Fat Free Cool Whip is good too. Use Splendia to make a desert that you like. So everything in moderation works. Exercise I was never a fan of exercise until I started to walk and I found out how much I benefited from it. Now I try to exercise 5 days a week. Find some form of exercise that works for you and do it. Start slow and then add more until you are comfortable with it. I am sure I have missed a few things, and I will write those down as I think of them and make a Vol. 2 if I needed too. These are just my suggestions, spice them up and make your food interesting and don’t get in a rut. This is not a diet, you will learn to adapt it and find things that work for you and that you like eating. This is a LIFESTYLE change. Make it work for you. You have the tool of restriction now use your new tool to your advantage. The fat doesn’t just melt off of you. It does require work and effort on your part. Stalls—No weight loss for a period of days. Be prepared you may have periods where you lose NO weight. We call those “Stalls.” You will panic and think for sure that you are the “one person this is NOT going to work on.” I know I was sure that was me. NOT true at all. Our bodies just do this. Mine lasted for 9 days—no weight loss at all. Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will start coming off again I promise you. I can tell you not to panic but most of you will anyway—that is pretty normal too. Hugs, Suzanne Sleeved 10/21/2008 Lost 105 pounds. The Protein Powers cost $12.99. It has 110 calories, 1 gram of sugar, 4 carbs, and 20 grams of protein. Hugs, Suzanne Sleeved 10/21/2008 Lost 105 pounds.- 20 replies

Protein Drinks and foods you can eat the 1st few months
Suzannesh replied to Suzannesh's topic in Food and Nutrition
You are going to be fine. Your stomach is producing a lot of acid, and that might be the burning feeling. At first you are lucky to get down 2 or 3 tablespoons of anything. Look at your thumb, honestly that is all you really have room for right now. You new small stomach has a lot of swelling going on because of the surgery. As time goes on it gets easier and better. It is very normal to think you have made a mistake, we all have been there and thought this. Popsicles really helped me and my stomach to feel better. Buy the All Natural Fruit and NO SUGAR ones, they work really well. Hugs, Suzanne -

Sounds like you might have a lot of acid going on in your stomach. Are you taking anything for Acid Reflux? If not buy some over the counter Prilosec. Take one in the morning and one at night before you go to bed. I had some of these moments when I asked myself why did I do this. Also a sugar free all natural fruit popsicle was something that helped when my stomach hurt. Try these things and let me know who you are doing. You can always reach me at Suzannesh@aol.com. Protein Drinks and foods you can eat the 1st few months
Suzannesh replied to Suzannesh's topic in Food and Nutrition
You are NOT really hungry. This is what we call "head hunger." Our brains play these nasty tricks on us tell us to eat. You really believe you are hungry. It is because the brain is used to you always eating. You need to learn the difference between "need" and "want" to eat. That was one of the biggest things that I had to learn to deal with when I first had surgery. I actually never feel hunger and it has been over 4 years that I had surgery. So you are having what we call "head hunger" and it is something that you can control. Hugs, Suzanne -

You are so very welcome. I just want this to be easier for everyone. I thought It was time that someone put this out there for everyone. Hugs, Suzanne -
Hi Everyone, It is a new year, how about you make this year a time to make a new you. We all have said this is the year I am going to lose weight, and I am starting my diet on Monday. Too, funny because I used to say and do all these things too. I finally realized that if diet and exercise were my only answers to losing the weight it was never going to work for me--I failed too many times at it. I needed something other than this, so it took me 6 months to do my research and I figured out that I want to have weight loss surgery, and my choice was the “sleeve”. Having weight loss surgery is NOT taking the easy way out either. Guess what weight loss surgery worked, I had WLS and the sleeve over 4 years ago and I lost 105 pounds and have kept it off. Please stop making excuses and saying all the things that you are saying to yourself about losing weight. You and I both know they are NOT working for you. If Diet & Exercise worked for everyone, we would not have any so many obese or fat people out there. I am sure you have tried as many diets as I have. It is like riding a roller coaster, and now it is time to get off the roller coaster. When you are on the roller coaster you lose the weight to only regain it back. You are slowing killing yourself with this thing we call a fork. You are eating too much food and lots of junk food I am willing to guess, because that is just what I did too. Believe me I do understand how you are feeling; I have been right where you are right now. Never give up on losing this weight, it is possible with weight loss surgery, and WLS is ONLY a tool to allow you to lose the weight. This is not a miracle cure. You have to be willing to make a lifestyle change. I never consider myself on a diet. It will require you to work hard at it and exercise—I used to hate the word exercise, no wonder I was fat. Now I know the benefits of exercise (walking is my form or exercise) and I walk every day. Start out slowly when you start to exercise, find something that will work for you. The biggest challenge is training your brain that it does not need all that food you used to eat. But in time you can and will do it. If what I have written touches just one person and they make the choice to go ahead and have weight loss surgery, then I am thrilled. You can and will be very successful at this weight loss. I am always here to help you every step of the way. If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask me anything. You can always reach me at my E-mail: Suzannesh@aol.com Your dreams can and will come true. Dr. Aceves was my doctor and I went to Mexicali, Mexico to have my surgery. He is an amazing man, who is kind and cares about each of his patients. He is a top rated surgeon. Check out what his patients have to say about him. The hospital is impeccably clean with a very low infection rate—far better than any US hospital. I highly recommend him and his staff. You will receive top of the line care at Almater Hospital. I have NEVER had the kind of care in the US that I got at Almater Hospital .

Awwww, thanks so much, I do want people to know that this works and you can maintain your weight loss. The closer you get to the day of surgery, you are going to have all kinds of feelings and emotions. I want you to know that this is so very normal. You will be excite, scared, and happy. Can't wait until you have the surgery, and 2nd guessing if you should have it. I was happy and scared all at the same time. So this is very normal. I wish you great success with your surgery. Just remember the 1st month is the hardest month that you will ever have to do. It gets easier after the 1st month, and it is only 30 days and you can do anything for 30 day. If you have any questions or just need a little support just let me know. Hugs, Suzanne

looking for any and all information (good & bad) on my potential Dr. in Mexico
Suzannesh replied to afinegirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi, I do not have any information on him, and I have heard very little about this doctor. I have been on this board for over 4 years now. I highly recommend Dr. Aceves. He is a highly skilled, wonderful, caring, and kind doctor. He truly cares about each one of his patients. You will hear nothing but good things about him on any board you check. There are good and bad doctors out there. You are doing the right thing, by asking questions about this doctor. I did the same thing you are doing. I will tell you that I do know that the Tijuana board is not one of the safest boards to cross. I have hear many people I know that live in San Diego say stay away from Tijuana. I wish you great success in your Weight Loss Journey. Hugs, Suzanne -
Questions you might have about Weight Loss Surgery
Suzannesh posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, I decided that I would make a list of things for new people who are thinking about having WLS that might be helpful to them. This is long so please PRINT THIS OUT TO READ if you don’t want to read it all at one time. This is my point of view after having surgery with Dr. Aceves , in Mexicali, Mexico. First thing is to start asking people on the board you are on all kinds of questions—make of list of things you want to ask and keep coming back and ask more questions as time goes on. The more questions that ask the more you educate yourself about WLS and the process and what doctor they liked. Don’t rely on just one source of information. It is really normal to have all kind of feeling and emotions when trying to decide if you want to have Weight Loss Surgery. I must have talked myself in and out of doing this at least 50 times during my 6 months of research. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. This is a big step. But if diet and exercise worked for us then we still wouldn’t be fat and would have lost the weight a long time ago and never regained it. It takes a lot of courage to have Weight Loss Surgery. I am very proud of you for looking into this. Don’t give any more days of your life being overweight, and your body hurting along with being unhealthy. WLS really is your answer. How do you select your surgeon? First of all this is NOT a time to price shop for the cheapest doctor to do your WLS—that is just the wrong way to go at this. There are a lot of doctors who advertise on the Internet doing sleeve surgery for a lot less than some other doctors. I found one posting from a person who had the following concerns after having surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. (a) They put NO name band on her to be able to ID her when giving medications or anything else. ( NO one asked if she had any allergies to foods or medications—thank goodness this person didn’t have any. ( The lab did NOT label tubes of blood with the person’s name on it—very dangerous. © Day after surgery they gave this person ice chips, tea and apple juice. The next day (day 2) they gave this person NOTHING so this person asked why and the nurse said this person wasn’t allowed to eat anything. Well, this person then said I had Clear liquids the day before and they wanted to know WHO gave it to this person?? (d) This person was told that they would get a copy of the operative report on their discharge to take home with them—This person has not received it yet and that was about 2 weeks ago. So make sure have positive feedback about the Surgeon and Staff and Hospital that you choose. There are some good doctors out there and there are so NOT so good doctors out there. My choice after 6 months of research was Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. What I can tell you in my opinion is that he is the very best you will ever find to do your surgery. I can only speak about my experience and my research that I did before I made him my choice for a surgeon. I am sure there are other people out there that feel the very same way about their doctor too. Pack lightly for your WLS. So many of us have gone to Mexico, so you want a small suitcase with wheels, a laptop & a cell phone. The clothing that you wear to Mexico are the same ones you can wear home—slip on shoes work great too. Make sure that the clothing is loose fitting. Something just comfortable for your ride home. While in Mexico—that is if you go to Mexico for WLS make sure you take GAS-X. They have nothing in Mexico that they give your for gas, and the use gas in your abdominal area during surgery. It is painful after the surgery, so GAS-X STRIPS are easy to use by just placing them on your tongue. Take a couple of boxes with you—you will be glad you did. If you are going to use a credit card make sure you tell your credit card company and your Bank if you use your debit card or credit card. Sometimes if you DO NOT let these companies know you are outside of the US they block your charges. Use a credit card or debit card vs cash it is much easier to use. Take small amounts of cash for tips—I took $45.00 in 1’s for tip money for various things. If you go to any hospital anywhere leave ALL jewelry at home –just a watch and no rings or other jewelry. I never had any problems at all leaving my purse and computer& cell phone in my room while I was in surgery, but they recommend that you leave all jewelry at home. If you are a lady please remove all nail polish—they need it removed to see your nail beds during surgery. The first month you do after surgery is the HARDEST month you will ever have to do. You do 10 days of nothing but clear liquids to start with—that means you have to be able to see through the liquid. Do not panic if you can not get the Protein they want you to have the 1st 10 days—I couldn’t find anything I liked that was clear during the 1st 10 days. They want you to try to drink 64 oz each day, and I don’t think I could ever get that much Water drank—just do the best you can. Your new stomach has just had major surgery and it is swollen and will only hold something about the size of your thumb. The next 10 days gets much better—you are now on creamy liquids for these 10 days. You can now have some creamy Soups, yogurt, and pudding—sugar free and find a Protein Drink that you like. For me it is Premier Protein Drink and I get mine at costco. When looking for a protein drink, make sure they are low in calories, high in Protein—Premier has 30 grams of protein in each drink box and make sure you have low carbs too. I know there are a lot of other Protein drinks out there that people like. When it comes to carbs I tried to keep mine at no more than 20 carbs per day. Ask others what kind of Protein drinks they liked and where they get them. The last 10 days are mushy foods. So this is a bit of a challenge. How many foods can I make mushy? I even considered using some baby foods. Start thinking about what will work as mushy foods for you. Starting the 2nd month is quite an adventure. You can eat regular food. Here is where the relearning process takes place. You now will take tiny BABY BITES of food and chew each bit about 30 times or until it is like a liquid. From here on out you will need to take small bites of food and chew and chew and chew. I found out that chicken and fish were a lot easier to chew up. I don’t eat much red meat—your tastes will change and things you didn’t like a lot might taste good and something that you used to love don’t taste that great anymore. Keep track of what you are eating and keep your calories at about 800 calories per day and no more than 20 carbs per day—whole grain carbs are the best to have—NO white or refined carbs. I highly suggest that you keep track by writing them down or using some of the Internet sites that offers you this. I suggest this site it works great there are other sites to use this is just a suggestion. hair 3 or 4 months after having WLS. I would find a lot of hair in the shower after washing my hair. That is pretty normal for a lot of us—this does not happen to everyone. There is no magical cure for hair loss—some people use different shampoo’s or take Biotin. It happens and you live with it. YES, it will grow back. For me I had pencil straight hair and mine grew back natural curly and I love it now. I already had thin hair so for me, I got some cute wigs and wore them for about 9 months until my hair looked a lot better. It was worth the hair loss to lose 105 pounds. Because we eat a lot of protein we suffer from constipation. You need to have at least 70 grams of protein EACH day. So I mix my protein drink each morning with MIRALAX. It is NOT habit forming and is tasteless and it is just a good way to start off the day. I put the protein and a cap full of Miralax in the blender with about 5 small ice cubes and that is my Breakfast. 3 years later I still have this for breakfast and nothing else, it just works for me. You may have periods where you have what we call STALLS. You may be doing everything right and eating and exercising and you have NO weight loss for a week or more. This is normal—mine lasted 9 days. Don’t panic the weight loss will start up again, just keep doing what you are doing. Our heads play games with us sometimes it is ugly what our brain tried to convince us of—We call these “Head Games” and they really are tough times to work though, but you can do it. Your head is still thinking with your old brain and way of thinking that you have been doing for most of your life. You now are eating VERY small amount of food, but your head is used to you eating LARGE amounts of food and that is what your brain wants—so it tries to tell you the you should be eating more—NOT true at all. So you need to have a talk with yourself. Do I just WAN T to eat or do I really NEED to eat? You are not on a diet, but you are making a LIFESTYLE change and that is good because you can do this for the rest of your life. You will NEVER be able to eat like you used to. That is good because that is how we got fat. You will morn the loss of food—you will look around and see others inhaling all this food and you think to yourself—I used to eat like that. You will notice how fast people eat and inhale their food and talk and hardly chew what they are eating. That is pretty normal feeling to have—because you are now eating such small amounts of food and chewing and chewing. You will never be able to guzzle a bottle of water again—that is OK too. These are all good things. In time you will look at all the food people are eating and thinking to yourself oh my gosh I could never eat that much again—it is way too much food. When you have issues or problems come back to the board and ask others who have already done this. We are here to help and support you. Give or exchange all your fat clothes away. You will never need them again after they become too big for you. This weight loss is something you will be able to maintain for the rest of your life. You have earned the right to have new clothes. Make sure you have the VERY best doctor that has had a lot of experience with sleeve surgery and check his success rates out. Check the doctor for HIGH patient reviews from the people who have gone to him or her. I can NOT STRESSS this enough. Make sure that your surgery is being done in a hospital NOT a Clinic. One clue that it is a clinic is if they send you to a hotel room to recover—that is why they cost less, this is also dangerous too. YOU are worth the extra money that it cost to have this WLS in a Hospital and by the best Doctor you can have. You want to have a happy and GREAT life and having the RIGHT Doctor and Hospital are the key to this. Sorry if this is long, but it is intended to have as a reference and answer a lot of your questions that you might have. For some of you, you are very lucky because your health insurance is now starting to pay for Weight Loss Surgery. For many of us, we did not have your luck, so we are self pay patients. There are companies that loan money for this surgery—be aware that their interest rate is high. Once you pick your doctor ask them about these companies that give loans for surgery if you are a self pay patient. You know we never think twice about making car payments. If you have to borrow the money for this surgery just look at this as “body payment.” It will be the best money you have ever borrowed. Please PRINT this out to read later. If you have any questions for me please feel free to contact me. I had surgery almost 4 years ago, so I do have quite a bit of experience. I really am here to help you along your journey. It took me 14 months to lose this weight and I was 63 when I had the surgery, so it is NEVER too late in life to do this.- 6 replies

Questions you might have about Sleeve Surgery
Suzannesh posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here are some more things I want you to know about if you are thinking about having WLS and you are having the “Sleeve.” We have talked a little or a lot about “slimming or phlegming” In case you missed it, when you first start eating regular food you have to re-learn how to eat again and chew. With your new stomach you will need to take small tiny bites and chew until the food in your mouth is almost liquid like. This is nothing like what you had been doing your entire life. In the past you eat and talk and put big bite in your mouth along with a few chews and then swallowing—this will NO LONGER WORK FOR YOU. This is a very difficult thing to change. So with your new stomach and just having surgery you may experience slimming or Fleming. First you will feel like the food is stuck, then it comes back up in a clear liquid –your saliva. It isn’t vomit, so that is why it is called slimming or Fleming. It’s a wakeup call to slow down you eating and chew, and chew and chew some more. Just go to the bathroom or have a napkin ready for the slimming or Fleming if you are eating out. If you try to overeat—which is bad you may experience this too sometimes. For me it was always about not chewing enough. What are some signs that you are full? At first I wasn’t sure, but sometimes I just got tired of all the chewing, so I stopped eating. I now get the hiccups or my noise will start to run when I am full. I know that other people have said they experienced this too. It does take some time to retain yourself on how to eating and I know that the first month it is such a process just trying to get all the food in that you need to get in because of your new restrictions. In time it does get a lot easier. Some people actually mourn the loss of food, because you will NEVER EAT the quantity of food that we used to eat---YEAH that is how we are going to lose the fat and maintain that goal weight that we want to have for the rest of our lives. If you think you are hungry and you are positive that you are having physical symptoms of hunger this is YOUR OLD thinking brain playing those tricks we have talked about. You now have to start learning to educate this OLD brain into being your NEW thinking brain. Ask yourself do you just "want to eat" or do you really "need to eat" because it has been 3 or 4 hours since you have eaten anything. It is amazing what our brains can and will do to sabotage our way of thinking. You may be challenged by this OLD brains way of thinking for many years. For me I just have to have some self-talks with myself. We have an addiction to food. There is no way around avoiding food, so we need to find the set of skills that will allow us to change our lifestyle. I eat to live, I NO LONGER live to eat! Food is not my main focus in life. I have seen so many times where people are going along and doing great with their weight loss. Then all of a sudden they are NOT losing anything—they panic—I did when it happened to me. We call these “Stalls.” We have stalled and are not losing anything. Most of the time you are eating all the same and correct things that you have in the past when you were losing weight. Our body just does this naturally--stalls. Mine lasted 9 days one time. This is really normal. I have a few suggestions. Use this site or something like it to track everything you are putting in your mouth. http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/ You might be surprised at what you are eating—that is why I say track it. Remember keep your total calories at 800 per day—if you exercise then you can eat more. This site will help you figure that out how much more you can it by what kind of exercise you did. You also need to make sure that you are not eating more than 20 carbs per day. No white or refined carbs. They should ONLY be whole grain carbs—not whole wheat, BUT Whole Grain carbs—do the best you can when it comes to carbs. If you are having problems with the weight loss you can kick up the amount of exercise you are doing too. The weight loss will start back up again, so don’t panic. We all stumble and fall along the way, don’t beat yourself up over it. Move on and have a better day the next day. Be aware that your friends and family may not be supportive of you having WLS. For your family, first they really may NOT understand it and they are scared for you. This is pretty normal. You have been on the Internet, and been educating yourself and doing a lot of reading—you know much more than they do about weight loss surgery and your choice is the sleeve. They have only heard the horror stories that the media puts out there or one of their uneducated family or friends have told them. Your friends are scared they may lose you as a friend because you are going to lose the weight and they will remain fat—yes I call it fat. I know there are a lot of politically correct terms to use, but if I can say I was fat you will one day too. Some of your friends will be jealous. My suggestion is that you can try to educate them some, but take your time and effort right now and use it for yourself. After you have had WLS and they see you are becoming healthy and you are alive and well they may come around. I want you to put yourself FIRST, for the very first time. If they are truly your friends they will be there when you are skinny. The first month will be the hardest month you will have to do. You are changing everything about how you eat. I want you to keep saying to yourself that it is ONLY 30 days and I can do ANYTHING for 30 days. Once you start the 2nd month and can have regular food, it gets easier. What do you do about getting smaller clothes? One of my adventures used to be to go to Resale clothing places and sell or trade my larger clothing to them, and then finding some smaller sizes. Just buy what you need to get by for a while until you need a smaller size. It was like a treasure hunt or an adventure for me. I found some places like Goodwill that had brand name label NEW clothing that the local stores gave them. I found some great deals at these places. So consider doing something like this or getting together with some of your friends and trading clothing. I also donated a lot of mine for a tax deduction to nonprofit organizations that give tax receipts—it is really great when it is tax time rolls around and I had all these deductions. I would make a list of everything I was going to donate and how much weight I had lost. I kept that all together in case the IRS asked why I gave away 20 some dress and 10 pair of pants, and 30 tops! Make sure that you go see your Primary Care Doctor when you have had WLS if you have gone outside of the US for your surgery. I went to see my PCP before I went to let her know what I was doing—I wanted a doctor who would support me in my efforts. I had to do a bit of education and after she had time to read all of the information I left her, she was behind me all the way. She said come back in to see her after being home for 2 weeks and she would check me over and run a blood panel to see how I was doing. She did this every month for a while and started taking me of meds that I no longer needed. I did need to start taking potassium—mine was low after having WLS and I knew this when I left Dr. Aceves—they had run a blood panel after I had my “Sleeve surgery.” I loved the fact that my PCP took me off 4 of my other medications within 3months of me having WLS. Exercise is important for you in a lot of ways. Walking and swimming are the ones that work best for me. I know that there have been a few people who said they did nothing. Walking helped me lose a little faster and was good cardio too. I try to walk at least 4 or 5 times a week. When I can I try to swim on the days I don’t walk. I know at first it is difficult to start to exercise, but walk around your home then, down the block a little. When the weather is bad—I live in Oregon and we have a lot of rain, we walk inside the Mall during those times. They open up the Mall at 6:00 am where I live, so you can start early. Buy a used treadmill and see if you like walking on it. My last words of wisdom are the following Saying yes means you will do something new, meet someone new most likely and make a difference in your life. Be true to yourself. It is you, your authentic self, the one you were in the first grade, before you leaned to massage your personality into a form that would suit others. Sometimes it is hard to hear the message because of all the external voices and they are so loud. Voices that are loud are always meant to bully. DO NOT BE BULLIED. So carry your courage in an easily accessible place. Be your OWN authentic person when it comes to Weight Loss Surgery. This is ALL about you and NO one else. Last you don’t need the approval of the Bully. You know what is right for you, follow your heart and go for it. I am always here if you want to ask me more questions, or I didn’t cover something that you are thinking about. I read my E-mail daily. I know it is a BIG step to take and there are a lot of things to think about, you can and will be success.-

Dr. Aceves Gastric Sleeve Surgery Information
Suzannesh replied to Malaika's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hey Jennifer, I just wanted to say congratulations to you. I am here if you need or want anything. The closer you get to going, the more feeling and emotions that you are going to have and feel. This is very NORMAL and we all have been here and had all these feelings and emotions. Here Is something that might be helpful to you when you get ready to go. This is just a suggestion of things that you might want to pack and take with you. Here is what I took and you might want to have when you pack for the Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Aceves. 1. Gas-X because you will have gas after the surgery and they don't have Gas-X in Mexico. They (the nurses and doctors) will ask you are you passing gas? It is nice to have this on the plane ride home too after the surgery. I bought a box (of 36 tabs) of Gas-X (thin strips) that you just put the strip in your mouth. It tastes good and it is easy to take--no Water required—nothing difficult to swallow either. 2. A comfortable bra & panties--nothing very tight (cotton is nice—what ever you like to wear) to wear home on the plane or if you want to wear these items in the hospital. Everyone was pretty relaxed with what they slept in or wore around the hospital. I didn't bring a robe at all--Just T-shirts and comfortable pants. Maybe a sweatshirt because the air conditioner makes it cool sometimes and then there are times when the air conditioner isn’t working that well. Bring some extra T-shirts in case you spill on yourself. My IV came out and I got blood on one of my T-shirts. I just washed it out in the sink and hung it up in the shower to dry. 3. Drawstring pants or pants with elastic waist—nothing tight around the middle section. I had some Nike walking pants and they were very comfortable—or short, or pants you would wear to relax in. I also had some that I wore to sleep in, walk around the hospital in and wore them home on the plane too (a pair for each day you are going to be away from home). Sweatpants work great too. I was there in Oct and so the air conditioning was going and sometimes it was cool at night when I was sleeping--so I brought some warm socks along too. But in some rooms the air conditioning wasn't working so well in their rooms and they were warmer than some of us were. If it is too warm or too cold tell one of the nurses they will help you with anything you need. They are excellent when you need something—don’t be afraid to ask. 4. A heating pad--I was so glad I had mine (someone had suggested I bring one) because it felt good on my stomach area. When my feet were cold at night I used my heating pad on my feet. Also when I was there with a friend for her surgery in April 2009 I found out at the nurse’s stations they also had heating pads—so if you don’t want to bring your own use theirs. 5. Some kind of slip on shoe for the plane ride home and something to wear in the hospital (I had some flip flops for the hospital and some clogs for the plane ride home. Flip flops didn't take up a lot of room in your suitcase. I also carried on the plane my tote bag carrying some things like, meds, change of underwear—in case my suitcase got lost, a snack so I could eat something after the tests that first day you arrive—because they will tell you not to eat a few hours before you get to Mexicali because of the tests you are going to be having upon arrival at the hospital in Mexicali. Sometimes you have to wait for everyone to have their test before they take you to the hotel and your are soooooooo hungry because you haven’t eaten anything all day long because most of us are flying into San Diego, so bring a snack that you can eat after your tests while waiting to go to the hotel. I brought along some packages of trail mix—bring what you like. 6. Only one (1) small or medium sized suitcase with wheels is really great because you will have to deal with your own suitcase at the airport (coming and going). I also brought along my laptop computer so I could stay in touch with my friends and family—I carried that on the plane too—don’t put it in a suitcase—too much stuff has been stolen out of suitcases. 7. Please be aware if you use your cell phone in Mexicali they will charge you roaming fees to CALL OUT. For me if people called me from the US to Mexicali and they were calling my Cell Phone there were NO ROAMING charges because they called me from the US. Most all cell phones work in Mexicali; I think they said Cricket was the only Carrier that they had problems with. I didn't have anyone come with me for the surgery, and they were so nice as to call someone (in the US) for me after surgery and let them know that I was doing great. I brought my own favorite small pillow with me (almost sofa size). It was nice to have it while I was in the hospital and on the plane ride home. 9. As far as money someone suggested I bring about $45.00 to $50.00 in one's so that I could have them for tipping—they all accept US money in Mexicali. I tipped Van driver $25.00 who picks you up and takes you to the hospital, takes you to the hotel, takes you back the hospital for surgery and then back to the San Diego airport. He takes such good care of everyone and I tipped him at the end when he took me back to the airport to go home. I also tipped the hotel guys for taking my bag to my room, and when I had dinner that night at the hotel. I would also bring along a small gift for 4 or 5 nurses or give them a little cash—I understand they really don’t make a lot of money and they might appreciate the cash as a gift. I would suggest that you take enough money or Credit Card or Debit card to purchase the medication that you will need after the surgery. There is a pharmacy about 1/4 block from the hotel--anyone at the hospital will tell you where it is—it is a easy walk. The Nexium that Dr. Aceves suggests you take after surgery for acid reflux for about 3 months cost a lot less —don’t forget they will negotiate over the price of medication in Mexico –even when it is at a pharmacy-they will give a price and then ask them “if I buy 4 boxes will you sell it to me for—ask for a lower price. This medication costs a lot less in Mexicali than in the US—so don’t forget to buy it while you are there. I also bought Prilosec because some people had told me that Nexium did work for them—as it turned out I was one of those people that Nexium didn’t work that well on and so I was glad that I purchased Prilosec. 10. Do not take any jewelry with you or wear any. All I took was my watch. Leave ALL other jewelry at home. 11. Be prepared if the Van driver may be late sometimes picking you up--find a place to sit down in the baggage area where they said he would pick you up. Make sure you can see people walking in that area and he will come walking down through there with your name on a sign holding it up. He will have you back at the airport on your return trip home in plenty of time to catch your plane ride home. 12. Bring a camera along to take some pictures of yourself in the “before stage” and maybe a group picture of the other people who are going to have the surgery the same day you do. I have kept in contact with them. You will be so glad you have done this. Take lots of pictures. People really do enjoy seeing the pictures if they are considering doing this surgery. 13. Don’t forget the personal things like toothbrush, shampoo, soap that you may want to use in the shower, a razor, cream rinse for you hair—maybe a hair curler and hair dryer if you want I don’t know if you want to bring make-up—I did, because I wanted to look ok going home on the plane. Yes, we used their water to take a shower—it is ok for showers… they do give you bottled water to drink. 14. I brought along a book I wanted to read along with my Ipod, so I could listen to my own music. You may or may not get a lot of reading done because you might want to take some nice naps too. Getting up and walking around is good for you and it makes you feel a lot better too. 15. Bring along some chap stick for your lips—they dry out and it is good to have something to put on your lips. If anyone else can add anything please jump in here and help me out! I know you are worried about a few small things and I can tell you not to worry because we all have been where you are. Just keep posting to the web site-- anything you want to say or ask. We all understand and have been where you are right now. I wish you GREAT success and it will be a life changing event and in about 2 months you will be saying the same thing too. Also Linda adds that when they make you drink the vile stuff to make sure your new stomach has no leaks don’t for get to ask for chips of ice. It numbs your taste buds because they are so cold and you can drink their YUCK stuff. She did it and it worked great for her. I didn’t know about it and I wished I would have. I think they do this on the 3 day before you go home. Suzanne This is what someone else added to what I put on my list--you never can have too much help or information I wore and underwire.....so I didn't get that message! I also brought a robe...for sure and maybe flip flops or slippers for doing lots of walking after the surgery. They give you those hospital gowns, but the day after the surgery, I was in my own pjs that were button down the front and elastic band capris...something easy to slip in and out of. Suzanne says-- I put my on PJ’5 on after the surgery when I got up to go to the bathroom. I would definitely take a comfy pillow for on the plane ride too. Just don't over pack! You will need very few things....one outfit for the day you arrive and one for when you leave and just the PJ’s for comfort. You may need to have something on the plane ride....maybe some tea from Starbucks or get some hot water and add some chicken broth to the hot water--(take Chicken broth packets from Top Ramen Noodles works great for the Chicken broth. You most likely won't be hungry at all....but just in case......a clear broth with water works. I realized that most of the stuff that I brought, I didn't even need.....so pack light! You will mostly be walking the halls of the hospital! The best of luck to you! You will do great! -
Hi Everyone, Well, I am approaching almost 3 years of being sleeved by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. He is the very best doctor I could have ever gone too, and his staff are all GREAT. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I was the person who thought "what if I am the one person that this will not work on?". I was 63 when I had WLS. Well that was the wrong thing to think. I am the person that this DID work on. It does take effort and work on my part to make this all happen. I tried to thank Dr. Aceves for what he did for me. He said "I only gave you the tool, you did all the work yourself, so take the credit for being successful." So, on that note I am taking the credit for my OWN success. It is not a diet, but a lifestyle change that is required. I never feel deprived. Take care everyone, Suzanne

Hi Everyone, Just a thought I needed to say! I have seen quite a few things about people regaining some of their weight back after reaching their goal weight. We all have worked hard to make some lifestyle changes by using our tool that we got because of weight loss surgery. These are good habits. But like one person said it is so easy to slip back into the BAD habits if we don’t watch what we are doing. I have work long and hard to be where I am through making lifestyle changes and developing GOOD HABITS. It would be easy to slip back into the old and BAD habits. I want what I have now more than to go back to the BAD habits. I also developed a GOOD HABIT of exercise, something I haven’t done in so many years, and it feels great. I always say pick your words carefully, because you can never take them back. I also say the same about eating. Keep the GOOD habits always first in your mind. There is no food that you need or tastes that good. Hugs, Suzanne

Where Do You Want To Be 1 Year From Now?
Suzannesh posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone out there,/shared/images/smiley/msn/batlashes.gif Stop and think where you could be 1 year from now. If you have been thinking about having weight loss surgery, I want you to know that a year from now you could be close to your goal or already achieved your goal. What an amazing feeling. I know it is hard to imagine being healthy, and thin and at your goal weight. It too me 14 months to lose 105 pounds./shared/images/smiley/msn/cool2.gif The next thing I want you to know is that it is pretty easy to maintain your weight loss, and make it last for a life time. You have to be willing to work at this, because weight loss surgery is NOT your miracle cure, but it is your tool for YOU to use to achieve where you want to be. You can do it. It requires hard work and exercise on your part. /shared/images/smiley/msn/dance.gif I am living proof of this. I had WLS 4 years ago, lost 105 pounds and have maintained my weight loss. I made a lifestyle change and it is easy and fun to follow. I was the person who HATED exercise. Now I get up and walk/shared/images/smiley/msn/party4.gif every morning 1st thing. I feel so much better and feel 20 years younger. My poor body does not hurt anymore, I am healthier and 90% of the medication I used to take, I no longer take. I know you are sitting there thinking, “I will be the 1 person that this will not work on.” I thought the very same thing, it does work, and it will work for you if you are willing to do what it takes to become successful. I had sleeve surgery in Oct 2008 and Dr. Aceves was my doctor. I could go on and on about how fabulous and wonderful, and highly skilled he is. But there are thousands of his patients who will also tell you the same things that I can tell you./shared/images/smiley/msn/heart.gif Please do NOT give up on yourself. /shared/images/smiley/msn/atwitsend.gif If you are reading this, you have been thinking about it for some time. Make the giant leap forward and go for it. If you have any questions, or need or want to talk, please contact me at:Suzannesh@aol.com I am happy to answer any of your questions or concerns you might have. I know I had 100’s of questions and you should too. It is OK to have questions. This board is here to help you and support you./shared/images/smiley/msn/bighug.gif Take care, Suzanne- 15 replies

Hi Everyone, Just a quick note to say that Sunday October 21, 2012 was my 4 year anniversary for having VSG aka the sleeve on October 21, 2008. Dr. Aceves did my sleeve and from there I lost a total of 105 pounds and have kept it off. I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful Dr. Aceves and his entire staff are. They are magnificent, caring, compassionate, kind, and the hospital is the very best you could ever want to have surgery in. They clean 24-7 at this hospital. When I was there they cleaned my room 3 times a day. I also saw 2 doctors at least 2 times a day while I was there. In my book I feel Dr. Aceves is the finest Weight Loss Surgeon there is out there. I can only speak about my knowledge, but I highly endorse him. You will see that countless people feel the same about him as I do. I want you to know that you can have this kind of accomplishment too! Life has changed so much for me. I am 67 years old now and I do things that I would have never done before. If you are the person who is sitting out there reading all these posts and you can’t make up your mind PLEASE step up and do something to change YOUR life. My only regret is that I should have done it sooner. I could make a very long list of the things that have changed in my life. I think the 1st thing is for the first time in a long time my health is superior, and 4 years ago I couldn’t say that. My primary care physician said I have set a great example for “older” people. He knows I went to Mexicali, Mexico and is so very supportive of what I have done. He has asked me if I would be willing to talk with some of his patients and explain what I have done to change my life, and I just may do this. I don’t care what your age is, please consider having weight loss surgery, it will save your life, change your life, and all for the better. I have set some goals for myself. I was the person who HATED to exercise. Now I am the person who wants to exercise. My first goal was to walk EVERY DAY for 30 days and not to miss one day. I completed that goal 10 days ago and today I hit my goal of walking 40 days in a row NOT missing one day. My next goal is to walk 60 days in a row and not miss a day. I walk in the sun, wind or rain, because I can and it feels good—something I NEVER would have said 5 years ago. I walk on an average 3 to 4 miles a day. 5 years ago I was lucky to walk around the block 3 times a week. If you have any questions or I can help you with anything, please contact me. You can send me a private E-mail to: Suzannesh@aol.com or contact me on this site. I am here to help you, support you, cheer you on, or just talk about what you need help with. You can have this kind of success too! It feels so very good! Hugs, Suzanne Sleeved 10/21/2008

Hi, You are very welcome. I just want people to know that this is something that they can do. I seem to have a little more time than some of them do on this site. I think there are a lot of us out there with 4 years, but they just don't post on here anymore. I try to stay in touch and pay it forward to those who are just starting out and helping and support when they need it. Hugs, Suzanne

Hi, I am not sure what kind of stats you are looking for? I have maintained my 105 pound weight loss. I up or down 5 to 7 pounds now and then, depending on what I am doing. My doctor said he would like to see me weigh 140 lbs not 120. He said when you are older if you get really sick you really can't afford to lose much weight and by weighing 140 you have a little weight on you. I stay between 127 and 120. Suzanne

Hi, I eat about 1,000 calories or 1,200 per day. I eat like I did when I was losing weight. I eat Protein first, then veggies. I try to avoid a lot of carbs. One of the things I do now is that I walk everyday and so that burns up some of those calories. I do have a desert now and then, but like always it is a small amount, and I do not do it every day. I have found that I still never feel hunger and that is nice. I try to stay busy, and if I want Snacks, I make sure I have a lot of healthy snack around the house. I hope that is helpful. Hugs, Suzanne

Hi, Thanks so much, I didn't add that I also got married. I had met a wonnderful man before I had the surgery and he could have cared less about my weight--he loved me for who I was  . We got married in 2010. Life just keeps getting better. It is a life chaning journey in so many ways. Thanks again, Hugs, Suzanne
