Taking care of myself....and not feeling guilty about it
Snoopyloverny replied to JinTx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Omg. How I so relate to these posts as the tears flow down my cheeks. For 14 months and 50 lbs more I put off myself so I could give two chdren more, their needed haircuts not my own which was straggly my teens trip to Germany bc she may never get to experience this again, their very expensive Xmas present while i watched in sadness for myself, going without a bed of my own because it is unaffordable, no bf or adult companion to talk to, so much more. And being home for them more gave me the chance to be near the kitchen which was so readily tempting me! Gosh, when do I wake up and pay some attention to my own needs???!! But in my head like you all, I keep saying it's not my time yet, my life is on hold until my children are grown so my own happiness doesn't matter. So when does one choose to spend time money and attention to theirself.... Thank u for posting! -
How long did it take from Seminar to Lap Banding?
Snoopyloverny replied to abqann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr told me today, it will be at least 3 months.... Ok so I'm aiming for 11-11-11! -
I hear from alot of people they are only able to take a few bites.... As far as I know, that's how it works forcing u to slow down and eat less! You will know which foods u can Eat more from and which ones probably only a few bites. I can't wait yo be banded, I've been reading so many books on it. And gaining so much knowledge already. I feel like I'm studying for the grand final test! Hope it helps some!

Smoking not snooping withdrawal , oops sorry
-
It very well could be withdrawal from smoking, or gas pains! You should walk! It really does help. You will feel the gas pains loosening up the more u walk. After a gas release you should feel better. If it's due to your snooping withdrawal I'm not sure what to tell u except go outside and deep beathe fresh air in your lungs or maybe chewing that NIC gum would help. The good news is that the pains. Will go away 2-4 weeks! If not, better get seen!

Ha, I knew two things that would sparks someones Interest to post back to you! Your catheter fear and ur love of crappy foods! Look man, u have to b ready for this , 110%, if not don't do it but let me tell u it won't get any easier the longer you wait because when u hit 30 your body goes to the dump ! Meaning everything slows down! U r young, do it now while u can bc you willfeel so much better. It's not as bad as getting a vasectomy( that's a 3 day pain from what I know), a catheter is no big deal. They have to monitor your urine output. Junkfood, I love it that the band has a mindof it's own! You will find out what u can and can not tolerate, most likely I hate to tell ya- your sugar foods are going to be history! Just as intense as your craving for that stuff is- your intensity has to be to eat healthy. If u don't think u can do it then don't waste a surgeons time bc u have to be willing to follow the Dr rules for it to work. U have to be willing to get up and move, fall in love with exercising not the candy or fried foods!!!!! We are here to help you, we want the best for you and your health. You mighthear some hard facts but it's all for your best I interest. U gotta get REAL w/ this! Only u can make the ultimate decision! Stoplilling yourself with those fried foods, soda, and candy! MAKE THE CHOICE TO LIVE !!!!!! -
Darn it I just lost my whole reply to you bc my battery IPod went dead...... I will try to remember what I said....here goes again---- Ok I'm reading my 3rd book on gastric bypass surgeries. I have, w/out a doubt chosen the Lap Band because of several reasons... 1) the LB is the least invasive of the 3 types, gastric Sleeve and the RNy. It requires the least amount of hospital stay time, usually under 23 hrs , but mostly around 12 hrs or asa you can walk. The others require 1-2 days and the RNy requires 2-3 days! 2) noone is messing w/ my organs! No cutting, stapling, rerouting or reconnections! 3) while it is possible to lose weight faster with the other two, they also have the highest % of weight regain and the least long term time. I mean that in one of the books it says that the sleeves avg long term time is 7-8 yrs, RNy is around 8 yrs (+ or-) and the LB avg time is 10-11 yrs. Lasting! I'd rather take my time losing! 4) the LB might require additionL Dr appts compared to others being done, a couple followups and it's over. I'd rather have lots of rechecks and constant monitoring. 5) I like the idea that it is reversible, removable if need be! There are somany other reasons but I've written long enough. Hope it helps u to make a sound decision.Good luck! The books I read are: A GUIDE TO WEIGHTLOSS SURGERY, Rhonda Hamilton MD OUTPATIENT WEIHTLOSS SURGERY, Kent Sasse MD GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY, Mary McGowan M D

Kaiser Lap Band patients? Timeline?
Snoopyloverny replied to StephO's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was like u, wanting it bad, like NOW! The reason why u need to call your insurance companyis because there is s form of questions u have to asjk them if this and thatis covered and then u send that form w/ your appl to the Bariatric center where u will have it done. It's a pain in the rear but all worth it in the end!!!! -

The first thing u need to do is call your insurance company and ask if the procedure is covered. Then u will need a physical and. Complete blood work makeup from your PCP. Have you gone to any infoational meeting, that is where u get the application to meet with a surgeon, b prepared thatcan take up to 2 weeks to get an appointment and the surgeon will tell you to bring the referral letter with you to meet him. You have to go through steps, lots of steps that could take up 6 months, meeting w/ a dietitian, getting a psych evaluation etc. An X-ray, some other issues ruled out like sleep apnea and such. I'm finding out that it is a long process, the least time is averaging 3 mos but most of the time it is nearly 6 mos. -
