Started my 6 month process on July 27th, 2011 because I had just found out that my insurance, BCBSTX, requires 6 months and my company is changing out insurance plans at the beginning of the year. What surgeon works the week between Christmas and New Year??? Obviously mine because they say the end of the year is the busiest time...with some loosing or changes in their insurance.

It was a tight timeline but we went ahead and submitted for my approval on Dec. 1st 2011 and I was approved 8 days later. My surgery date is scheduled for December 29th 2011. I'm so excited and nervous. I guess the hardest decision I've had to make was the one where I let go of the comfort food give me. Other than that, I have no reservations. I'm excited and hopefull that I will be around a lot longer for my 3 1/2 yr old.

Fast forward to the summer of 2015 was when I was in the best shape. I was working out 3-4 times a week and weighing around 130-135. But around the beginning of 2017 I started putting on weight. ( What's funny is that my diet hasn't changed, but the amount has. Grilled meats, veggies, fruits, eggs, nuts, etc. but more, and ALWAYS hungry.) That's when I went in for my first fill in 2 years. That's when I did the swallow test and my esophagus didn't look right. After 3 additional uncomfortable tests and a year later I've found that I have muscle issues at the bottom of my eslophagus, band slippage, and a hiatal or paraesophageal hernnia (I'll know after they do the surgery).
Ultimately I need a removal, but not only that, I need a revision too. And I didn't want to have to gain all my weight back to prove I need the tool. I spoke to my surgeon and we went ahead and submitted for my removal/revision and was approved in 10 days. I'm really relieved and excited that I can get this band removed and be revised and back on track sooner than later. I'll update my story as I evolve from the revision.
