I got the "Plicated" Band on 7-26-11. I had a flipped port and had to have a port reassignment surgery on 10-10-11. I just finally got my first true fill on 11-15-11. I had a flouro fill and the PA seemed confident in the amount of fluid 6 total ccs in a large band. I have lost 65 lbs since my surgery date, however, I do not feel the restriction I thought I would feel after having a fill. I have chugged water trying to fill my pouch and have been unsuccessful. I am chewing more but have forgotten and swallowed things I expected to be too large to fit through the opening. I am full a little quicker, however, that full feeling does not last more than an hour or two. Am I expecting too much? Is what I am feeling normal? and my weight loss is it on par with the average? I should also add that I can eat anything at all. I hear that others have a really hard time with bread, I have not had any problem at all. I don't eat much bread because it hinders weight loss but I had to try it because I had heard so often that lapband patients cannot tollerate bread.

So I went for my first fill today and the Dr. Tells me that my port is flipped and he cannot do a fill! He said to wait 2 weeks to see if as it heals it flips back or can be manipulated as the scar tissue reduces. But there is greater than a 50% chance I will have to have another surgery to correct it. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for all the great information. I have pretty much resigned myself to going in for another surgery. I really don't think they will be able to manipulate it enough to do a fill. On the bright side, when I went in for my fill I had only lost 4 lbs in 4 weeks.... so I was on a major plateau, but when I went to my regular doctor yesterday I was down to 397 thats 5 lbs in a week!!! I was able to use a regular dr. scale for the first time in years!!! Its a small victory but a victory jus the same! I just thank God that I decided to get the plication so atleast I am able to contine some weight loss even with an empty lapband.

I was banded 7-26-11

I do have a couple of questions... How much of a financial impact did the follow up surgery have? What is your recovery time like? Were you put on a special diet leading up to the surgery? Your input is greatly appreciated!

New Lap Band plus Plication surgery
Sailor59 replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had band with plication done on the 26th of July. I have not had my first fill yet so I am only experienceing the benefit of the plication at this point. I am able to eat approx 30% of what I used to eat... which is expected because it reduces your stomach size by approx. 70%. I am over 400 lbs so my stomach size was very large to begin with so even the 30% is not a tiny ammount of food. I have my first fill on the 30th of August so I am really hoping I will experience more restriction at that point. I had my surgery outpatient and was eating foods with no problems 2.5 weeks post surgery. -
Starting to feel a bit frustrated!
Sailor59 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded with plication on 7-26-11. While I was on all liquids I lost about 32 lbs. SInce I have been back on solid foods I feel like I have gained a few pounds back. I have not had my first fill yet so I am still a bit optimistic... but I expected more from the plication I guess. They claim that my stomach has been reduced by 70% and I would say that is accurate because I am only able to eat about 30% of what I did before. However, that 30% still seems to be enough to not allow weight loss and even allow a bit of weight gain. The doc said I should feel restriction from the swelling around the band site for 3-4 weeks, however, after about 10 days I felt no restriction what so ever in the band area. Has anyone else gained a bit of weight after transistioning to solid foods before first fill?! -
I had real food for the first time yesterday and I kept feeling like something was caught in my chest. About 4 hours after I ate I ended up vomiting! What did I do wrong? I am supposed to be on mushies and I only ate a half cup of cheddar brocoli soup. There were no large chunks of brocolli at all! I don't understand what I could have done wrong. Is it possible that the 1/2 cup was too much??!! Im so confused! I did have some chicken cream soup about 5 hours earlier about a 1/2 cup...and I am plicated as well. Is it possible not all of the food from lunch had digested and was still in my stomach?

Had my first follow-up visit today. I am down 9 lbs since surgery 1 week ago and down 32 lbs since my journey began 3 weeks ago! I had band with plication and I think I will get my first fill will be in 4 weeks. I have had actual food today for the first time (broccoli soup) and I am so glad to eat something other than jello or protein shake! I only had about a 1/2 cup but I am soooo stuffed an hour later!

wow... I was banded on the 26th and I started mushies yesterday. I am back to work as well ( I do have an office job). I guess it just depends on your doc as to what your restrictions are. -
I take a vitamin called Vita Band its made especially for lap band patients. I believe it is put out by bariatric advantage.

5-weeks Post-Op and not really losing
Sailor59 replied to Jonna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 1 week post op but I have lost 9 lbs since surgery and a total of 32 lbs since starting the liquid diet. I guess it just varies from person to person. I did get the plication with the band so I hope to lose weight at a more rapid pace. -

I had to take it. I am obviously not female so I didn't have to worry about yeast infection but I had no ill side effects. The prevacid ended all of the reflux I had been having so it was benneficial for me. Hope this helps.

Ok so I am now 6 days post op and first day back at work. I had really hoped I would feel better than I do right now. I feel over all Lethargic and sore. I have a tinge of nausea constantly. I have no real appetite and have to force myself to drink the protein shakes. I am supposed to start incorperating mushies into my diet tonight or tomorrow. On a bright side I am down 26 lbs since I started my pre surgery diet. Another issue I do have is Diahrreah! I guess it is liquid in liquid out but it is getting old! Are the feelings I am having normal?

I am 6 days post op and first day back at work. I still have a nauscious (spelling?) tinge in the bottom of my stomach but I haven't actually thrown up in a day and a half. I just have an over all feeling of lathargy which is actually getting a bit better as I am forcing myself to drink ALL of my Protein drinks. Have you been drinking all of your Protein shakes and hitting your protein number? I am finding that my nausea is actually abading as I am consuming more. I get to go to mushies tonight I am sooo ready I think I am going to eat some Grits! Good luck with your journey!

I have lost 26 lbs since starting the full liquid diet 5 days pre surgery, I am now on post op day 6 so 26lbs in 11 days! I also had the Plication along with my band does anyone else have this and from what I have read it seems as though the rapid weight loss lasts longer with plication patients?
-
I have been told by the Doc and Nut since day one that once I am banded I should not drink anything including Water for 30 before and 30 after a meal. Does everyone follow this or is it something that really doesn't make a difference?
-
I had my lapband with plication done outpatient yesterday. Iam soo sore and the gas pains just won't stop! I have had a lot of nausea and vomitting. I can't lay on my side and I am having a hard time sleeping on my back. Is this common?

Lap Band not installed!
Sailor59 replied to barchuu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6ft 4 and 415 at time of surgery. My Dr. ordered a larger band to use and I had no problems. I am sorry to hear that this happened to you! I couldn't imagine going through that. I do know that the Doc had to specially order my band my surgery was even postponed a few days because of it. Maybe your surgeon just asumed he could make due with smaller band? -
Thank you! The nasea and vommiting are sporatic and I am usually able to keep down water and meds. However, I am probably not drinking as much as I should. I am on Phenegran for nausea and although it puts me to sleep it is helping with the nausea. I have tried to walk around the house pretty often and it does help with gas... but just when I think maybe I have gotten it all out I feel that bubble on my chest again PAIN! Overall I think I am doing rather well will try to start increasing my intake tomorrow and add Protein shakes.

I am scheduled for next week for the banded plication surgery are there any others who have had this procedure done? What was recovery like? Glad you went with the combination surgery?
