Gagging on breathing tube post-op?
mellove replied to hopeful07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was banded, I told the doctors that my biggest fear was to wake up in the middle of surgery and not be able to let anyone know...but I didn't. When I came out of my sleep, I felt the tube and felt as if I couldn't breath, but just as I was about to panic, they pulled it out, then I heard them ask me if I could move to the other bed. I couldn't even move my body, so they lifted me by the sheet that was beneath me. I couldn't even lift my arms for about 5 mins after surgery when I was back in my room. AFter they took the oxygen mask away from my face, I was out...I don't remember anything for 3 hours when they woke me to walk. I didn't have any scratchiness of the throat or anything. Just groggy. -

I just had the surgery on the 14th, but so far so good. I"ve lost 5lbs since surgery, but I've been on liquids, so ofcourse I'll lose that weight. I'm looking foward to the solid food stage, and see the results then.

Hey Sharon, I'm from the Kansas City area. I went to Mexico because I had the cash, but no insurence and I sure as heck wasn't going to pay the $16K for the surgery when I could go to TJ for half the amount here. I spent $8K, got a cheap ticket on Southwest to San Diego, they picked me up on the 13th from the airport, had the surgery last wednesday the 14th, and got home on the 16th. The facility was very nice, and the doctor and staff were great! I could go to Dr. Malley here in the kc area for my fills, but I think for my first appt, I'll go back to TJ for everything. We have the same birthday? Yeah, April Fools rock!

I'm back from Mexico and finally banded! Everything went well, and I was very pleased with the care I got in Tijuana. I'm just dealing with the liquid diet stage, and hoping time flies by so I can start eating solid food! Other than that, I'm just a little sore and taking it easy. I luckilly don't have a job to hurry back to so I can take it a little more time to recoup.

Thank you guys! I just booked my flight to San Diego where I'll be picked up. Since the surgery is coming up so quickly, I'm on the pre-op diet now. So far, it sucks! I hate not having normal food! oh well, life goes on and I'll be looking and feeling better once all of this is done!

Hey, I'm in the northland, and I'll be getting banded on the 14th of Feb. I can't wait! I may get in touch with you. I'm 25, and will be needing a buddy when my body is ready. I'll keep in touch.

I'm 25 and hoping to have this surgery before my birthday, April 1st. I'm considering on heading to Mexico for mine. I have the cash, but I don't think I quite qualify for the surgery here in the States. They want a BMI of 40 or as low as 35 if you have health issues dealing with your weight. (thats what I've read, anyway). I'm 5'6" and 208...lost about 30 in the past year while I was in Afghanistan but since I've been home, its slowly finding its way back though. I think its wise to do this surgery at this age to prevent health issues that are caused by weight. I'm so tired of always up an down on weight and wearing myself out on different weightloss programs. This is a life changing event..and one for the better in all ways!

I'm new to this forum, and I hope I'm not hated for posting this.....but I agree with most of the world that we should not have invaded Iraq. The unfortunate thing is, we're there now and there isn't any sign of leaving any time soon. Same with Afghanistan. Trust me, I know because I've been there. I've spoken with the local people and they are so glad the US and other coalition forces are there because what you don't hear on the news is that there really is good going on. Our soldiers really are helping to re-build these poor poor countries by building schools, educating teachers and children, and building homes. These people are being able to slowly get themselves back up after extreemists came in and distroyed their lives.Their economy is raising too! You don't hear of all the good things these soldiers are doing...the media only wants to put the bad things out about the President and this war. But you wanna know who does like OUR President? The local people of Kandahar Afghanistan! I don't know how many times I was told by them how thankful President Bush came to help them from the Taliban. Actually, he's FINALLY asking for money to be sent to Afghanistan...he spent TOO much money on Iraq, and hardly anything on Afghanistan and yet, soldiers are dying every day there too, but ofcourse, you don't hear about it because Iraq is the main focus. The Taliban and Osama was the main reason we were sent over in that direction after 9/11....shoulda stayed that way, in my opinion. Perhaps we'd have Osama by now. WHICH also reminds me, Pakistan, we finally bombed out some schools at the border of the country...where even the locals in Kandahar knew and informed us of al Qaeta Camps were there, which means Pakistan has been harboring taliban!! okay..I think I said all I wanted it. As you can tell, I'm kinda on the wire about everything. I've seen it first hand...I know the good we're doing in AFghanistan....and they are doing the same in Iraq.

Hi, my name is Melissa and I'm from the Kansas City area. I've always had issues with my weight (I'm 25) and both my mom and I are considering on having the banding surgery done. We have looked into it around the KC area, and the cost is $16,000 and up. We've also checked out Thailand prices too, $9,000. Does anyone know of any good, clean, respectful places that are cheaper than $16K here in the States or Mexico or Canada even? Thank you, Melissa
