Hello! My name is Brooke, I currently live in Charlottesville, Virginia, I am 18 years old, and this is my story...
It's not easy being a bigger girl. When I was younger I would always get compared to my twin brother and why I was always bigger than him. I found out when I was 13 years old there was a reason- I have PCOS. In middle school I started noticing I was gaining weight rapidly. At one point I gained 50 pounds in the span of a year. I was very active through my school government and sports teams. In high school, I decided to play more sports. No matter what I looked like and felt about myself, I tried out for the Cheerleading Squad. Guess what? My second season as a freshman, I made Varsity! I couldn't have had more self confidence. Softball was the second sport I tried out for and it only stuck for about 2 years. I loved softball, but I loved cheerleading more and had the opportunity in the Spring to do competition cheerleading, so I took that opportunity. A couple months after my 16th Birthday, I got very depressed. I kept gaining weight and started taking medicines such a Metformin and Spironalactone. I was so dissapointed in myself. My body litterally hated me. I started looking into getting the Lapband during my summer vacation. I was too busy feeling sorry for myself rather than doing something about it. After my 18th Birthday the topic came up again. I am getting ready to go to college, it will be my new start! I have been writing food journals since April, going to millions of doctor appointments and FINALLY on Aug. 2nd, 2011 is the big day! I am so excited, and nervous, but I know that my life is going to be better and I am going to feel a lot better and healthier.
I wish everyone going through the same stressful proccess as me luck! :)
