I gained over 100 pounds after having my daughter. I was on medication that made me, basically, narcoleptic. I slept and ate. I finally fixed the medication problem, but was now over 300 pounds and on my own to take it all off.
When my daughter was in Kindergarten, I was class mom. One of her friends hugged me one day and announced, "I wish I had a big, fat mommy like you!". I didn't want to be the big, fat mommy. I certainly didn't want my daughter teased for having a big, fat mommy. I went to a seminar on lapband surgery not long after.
We fought with the insurance company and wound up paying for half of a surgery that was "totally" covered. I lost 40 pounds straight off and struggled to lose 40 more. Then I lost 15 pounds in a very short time, but I was aspirating on my own saliva, could not lay down and was couging constantly - my band was too tight. When I did a barium gulp, it showed that my esophogus was swollen. All the fluid was taken out and I had to let the band stay open for 3 months. The swelling went away, but I gained 30 pounds back. I have had issues with tightening the band and have had fluid taken out a few times, resulting in weight gain each time.
I am currently up to 275 pounds and struggling to take the weight off again. My past issues dealt with over-production of mucus and regurgitation. That has, thankfully, gone away. My current issue is that I am burping a lot. I do not eat fast and I do not eat after 6:30 pm. But when I go to bed, I start burping incessantly. I don't mean dainty burps, either. I mean loud extended belching that would put frat boys to shame. I have chest pressure from the trapped air from laying down, so I sit up and spend the next hour or so just belching. I have recently had an appointment. I am 3 pounds down and we are working on the issue at hand.
