SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
mlola replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in months till I got a notification a few minutes ago in my e-mail. Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. I'm one of the success stories. I had my revision August 31st 2013, almost a year ago, and hit my goal weight by new years day. I've been losing and gaining the same 5 pounds since then and as we speak I'm 1 pound below goal. No pain in my tummy, I eat small but satisfying portions and I don't have any health issues. I'm so happy I did the revision It's such a relief after the failure that my sleeve was. I should have just done the bypass in the first place. -

How much time did you take off from work?
mlola replied to WildGrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to work at 9 days post op. I have a desk job and was fine, just tired. I would have preferred 2 weeks but I didn't tell my work i was having surgery and was taking unpaid days, so back to the office for me. I'm 5 weeks post op now and feel perfectly fine. -

Officially 4 weeks out... Just wanted to give a quick update...I hit 4 weeks yesterday and after the hell I went through the first week I'm so glad to be here and to be feeling better. Diet wise I'm still on purees but have started experimenting with soft foods... eggs, ground beef, shredded chicken salad, chunks of vegetables in Soups, so far all have gone down well as long as I keep within my 3-4 ounce limit. Sometimes I forget to chew properly and I can feel that lump of food going all the way down my pouch and into the intestine down the point where my jejunum meets my duodenum (yes I can tell where it is from the discomfort of something too large passing through that point). I makes sure to eat every 3 hours when i'm awake. I haven't started taking my supplements and Vitamins yet. My dr's diet calls for waiting 6 weeks before starting them. I'm watching my fibre intake to avoid constipation and always include a 4 ounce serving of pureed spinach a day to my diet to keep things regular . Still not up to 64 oz of Water, but I'm doing my best to get as much as I can...so far no dehydration. In terms of weight loss... due to the complications I had that first week and having to spend 7 days in the hospital constantly attached to 3 IV's simultaneously... I gained 11 pounds. (I initially thought it was 15 pounds but when I did the math again after my brain cells had come back to life, I realised it was only 11). So while it's not quite correct...including those 11 lbs, I've lost a total of 27 lbs in the 3 weeks since I was discharged . Funny thing, is ....no one has noticed. no one has made a single comment. oh well.... eventually it will be noticeable. Anyone else had surgery on or around Aug 31st? How are you doing? -

My revision was exactly 3 weeks ago actually. August 31st. Are you eating foods high in carbs? I'm sticking to low carb high Protein purees and noticed that I'm not getting the glucose highs and lows anymore. That might help you. Also, I limit my Protein drinks as I noticed those were giving me symptoms of dumping, which might mean they are high in sugar and carbs. I stopped taking the shakes for a week, but will try again when I hit 4 weeks because I need the protein. Rather than apply juice, why not just try crystal light? Its sugar free but still sweet. I sometimes add it to my Water just to give a hint of flavour. -

You are so right that the hunger doesn't go away with bypass like it did with sleeve. I'm still on purees and I eat 3-4 ounces every 3 hours that I'm awake (yes I weigh the food. I don't want to risk eating too much for my punch). Then I wait 30 minutes and then I'm continuously sipping water for the next 2 hours which keeps the hunger pangs away. then I stop drinking for another 30 minutes and by then time its time to eat my next meal, I'm hungry again. That works for me, but I'm sure others have other tactics that work for them. My sleeve also failed partly because I wasn't following all the rules so this time I'm following them to the letter. -

Wow 7 in 7 months, I'm so sorry you went through all that and hopefully the RNY solves it for you. Looks like this group is growing. I thought the sleeve would become the new "gold standard" and yet here we all are. -
First Post - Revised Sept. 1st
mlola replied to Sleeved2RNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I"m tired all the time. And I find I have to move slower than normal. I'm also taking tylenol to help with incisional pain and it helps. As for eating, I've been on clear fluids all along. But as of an hour ago, i've started experimenting with my first Protein shake. I want to start incorporating full liquids and thicker Soups into my diet. I don't really have any issues with drinking Water which is great. And yes we absolutely have to keep in touch. -

Hello Canadians, Any one living in Toronto know of or can recommend a good non-judgemental doctor that can provide post op follow up care without constantly judging me? I have a family doctor already but she's pretty judgemental and so decided not to tell her about going to Mexico, but I would still like the follow up care. Thanks.

Weight Gain Before Gastric Sleeve Surgery
mlola replied to mxmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mxmom... I could have written that exact post. My surgery is on the 26th of Dec and since August I have gained 10 pounds. I'm starting my pre-op on the 13th of Dec and totally not looking forward to it. But it all for a good cause. The more we lose pre-op, the better. -
What Mexico Dr. Will Take A Low Gastric Sleeve Bmi Patient?
mlola replied to NEVA907's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My BMI is 31 and Dr. Kelly is doing mine. I know a number of people who've been sleeved by Dr. Kelly with BMI's ranging from 30-32. What is your BMI is it lower than 30?
