MystryRed replied to gigi90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on May 15th of this year.. I am now 2.5 months out and I have lost 42 lbs. Still have 70 lbs to go. So I guess I have lost what 40% of my weight.. I think.. not so good with the math.. Good Luck.. and dont worry it will come off.. And each person is different so you will loose a different amount than anyone else. -
Got dehydrated at Sea World

You definitely got ambitious for being only a month out, and in this heat. You will be able to drink more water at one time when you get farther out from surgery, but you still have to be careful. I'm 2.5 months out and just noticed the other day that I can handle more water than I could before. But I still cant handle a half a bottle of water or anything like that. I just have to force myself to drink every 5 mins our so when I am walking or doing anything outside. It takes some conscious effort to do this, but its just one of the sacrifices that I have to make to become healthy and loose the weight. Good Luck girl.. and I hope that your feeling better. And next time... remember you JUST HAD SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. you cant do it all right now. -
You can de-sting the celery by peeling it just like you would a cucumber or an apple. Using a peeler and just start peeling the celery, you may have to pull the strings out if you dont get deep enough with the peeler but they are easy to pull once you have started peeling the stalk. I have done this for years due to having a dog who LOVES celery. Yes I know.. I spoil him. But I eat a lot of celery myself and have had no issues by peeling my celery prior to eating. Hope that works for you.

You might try adding some chicken/beef broth to it. I remember somewhere that you might be able to add potato to something and that helps with saltiness but it might work with the sweet. You might try mashed potato flakes and then add some broth to thin it back down. That might help it. I remember having to live on the liquids and didnt want to waste what I had made, I mean come on you had 16oz or more of soup and you only eat 2-4 oz at a time. Good Luck.

Thursdady we had to o to the dr for Lee and afterwards we stopped at dairy queen. Yes I know not very nutritional. But it was the only thing around. (Little town) So I ordered one of their grilled chicken wraps with cheese. Looked it up and it was only 200 calories. Not to bad. I ate 4 french fries of Lees. I ate so fast that by the time we got out to the truck my stomach hurt so bad. I really wanted to throw-up. So Friday I was back on LIquids again.. Oh well live and learn.

Should this still hurt this much?
MystryRed replied to Heather~ Sweetdreams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sweetdreams, I know exactly what your talking about.. I am now 9 weeks today out of surgery. My pain lasted for two weeks and then on the day of my two week check up I was in the shower and I felt something POP and the indention on my left side was popped out and NO PAIN!!... I mean i was on pain meds the whole two weeks after sugery and had to wear a binder around my stomach, or the pain would just tear threw me. I couldnt be left alone because I have an english mastiff who will try to get in my lap and I didnt have the strenght to push him away. I couldnt stand up straight, an the binder caused a rash that itched like no bodies business. Heck it was still there two weeks after the pop. I kept Gold Bond Medicated powder in business during that month. But just know that each day got better and one day it will just disapear with the POP... and no the pop didnt hurt thank goodness.. I asked about this at my doctors and she said it was normal and that several patients had this issue. Once it popped I did not need any more pain meds at all. -
Sleeved and SOOOOOOOO Happy in Texas
MystryRed posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone, I just found this site today. I wish I had found it when I was doing my research on WLS. But all is not lost. Well not all of my weight thats for sure. Still have a ways to go. I was sleeved on May 16th, 2011. Its now a little over 8 weeks and I have lost 39 lbs. My doctor was Dr. Nick Nickelson out of Plano, TX. I am so happy with Dr. Nick, and his staff. They are all great. even when you call for a silly question, they dont make you feel silly. My story started last year, when I started to have some health issues. I have always been overweight most of my life and it was never really an issue for me. I was healthy and happy so I told myself.. "Whats the big deal if I'm overweight." Well I found out what the big deal was last year when I started having issues with Reflux. It actually put me in the hospital thinking that I was having heart issues. They found that I have had some damage from an asthma attack I had 4 yrs ago when the medication ran my heart rate so high. I have always had Asthma my whole life and in the last 4 years it has just gotten worse. Now they are telling me that it might be caused due to the reflux and also the fact that I was now pre-cancerous cells in my esophagus. And that most of these issues could be tied back to my being over weight. So I sat down with my family dr. and we discussed my options. I did the research on WLS and then spoke with Dr. Nicholson regarding the best surgery for me. We decided on the Gastric Sleeve. Knowing that any kind of surgery is an issue for me due to complications with Anesthesa, we went ahead and scheduled the surgery. When the date came and so did the complications, I thought to myself "WHAT have I done to myself" but after a couple of extra days in the hospital and a couple of weeks recovery at home I can now say "I WOULD do it all over again" I am so happy with the surgery. I am now looking for people who are dealing with or have dealt with the issues Im facing, living with a sleeve on a daily basis. I hope to make many friends here. Myst -

Yes I did and when that pop happened it went away. It was really funny... But like I said it was two weeks after surgery when that happened. I took pain meds up till then. Luckly once I got all the anethesia out of my system I didnt have any nausea at all. I was lucky that way. Yes I go to the ones at Baylor. I havent gone to any of the support groups yet. My husband has an issue with his heart so he cant drive, and so our fuel costs have just doubled. And I drive a desiel 3/4 ton 4x4 and to fill it up costs 100.00. So right now I have been staying close to home. But I am going to be going to a post-op class this thursday.

Good Morning, Well its been 9 weeks today and I think I hit a platue. I cant seem to get past this 39 lbs. Im wondering if I am not getting enough calories. I am eating between 500-700 calories per day. I try to get more but I just cant seem to get there. Hopefully at my post op class they will help me with this.

Good Morning everyone, I am 9 weeks post op, and I remember all the issues that you guys are speaking of. As for the BP issue I have never had any issues with my BP. But the pulling and pain I do remember. What is so funny is that the day of my 2 week apt with Dr. Nick it felt like that pulling popped., that morning when I raised my arm in the shower, and then no more pain. It was like night and day. (Brittany said that was normal and a lot of patients have this happen). At that point I was up and moving and didnt need that dang binder anymore... I hated that thing with a passion. It made me itch and I got this really bad rash that lasted for nearly two more weeks once I quit wearing it. I remember being so hot that I couldnt sleep at night, but then I am also menopasual, but those first few weeks I thought I was going to go nuts. I think that the anethesia has something to do with that. I am down 39 pounds and have hit a platue, but I think its due to the fact that I may not be getting enough calories. I am really only getting about 600 to 700 a day. I am getting aprox 50-60 grms of Protein daily, but I am going to my post op class this week, so hopefully they will be able to help me with that. The only issue is that I still can only handle approx 3 to 5 oz at a time, depending on what it is I eat. But I LOVE that full feeling. Now I am learning to listen to my body, trying to figure out what the issue is. Am i hungry, thirsty, or just plain bored. Good luck everyone. Hope you all do well learning a new life. It really is a lot of fun after the two or so weeks recovery.

Autumn, Thank you for that. If you need anything please feel free to ask. I have been lucky in the fact that I have a great support system with my husband and family. It really helps. -
Hunger--the time game
MystryRed replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The one thing my surgeon told me was to make sure that I am getting a lot of Protein. And as long as I am doing this I do fine with the hunger issue. Protein takes longer to digest, so leaves you feeling fuller longer. I also have found that sometimes when my stomach starts growling that I am also thirsty. So now I try to make sure that I am drinking as much Fluid as I can get during the day. Hope this helps. -
Itching has started
MystryRed replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rememeber this itching.. Man was that awful. My surgeon told me that I could either take Benadril or use Gold Bond medicated powder. You might ask or try this. I would take the benadril at night since it made me sleepy and use the gold bond during the day and evening. Hope this helps. -
