  1. Good point - most of what I am eating is full liquid (though I am allowed to have cottage cheese and smushed beans). Thanks!
  2. I think one of the biggest reasons I haven't been shy about telling people about surgery is that I want the accountability of everyone knowing what I went through. If When I do get to goal, I am determined to not regain because I don't my close friends saying "look, all that work and struggle you had at the beginning and you're going to throw it all away?". I want them to raise an eyebrow when they see me with too much of something bad (though I'm sure I'll treat myself here and there when I get to that point).
  3. I'm not sure how many VSGs my surgeon had done, but he had literally thousands of RNY and specialized in laparascopic surgery. My hospital was a COE and had a dedicated bari wing. Things couldn't have gone more smoothly! I didn't even think to ask him how many sleeves he'd done, I figured that with the RNY being more complex I was in good hands.
  4. Thanks for sharing your progress so far! A slow loser is still a loser, so keep it up. The above quote is absolutely perfect and something I want to remind myself of when the head hunger kicks in.
  5. OK, update - I mixed the drink with about 5 oz decaf coffee and about 3 oz of 1% milk - got me 19 oz of liquids and tasted much better than just drinking it "straight." I am going to mix with just milk tonight and see how it is.
  6. I was browsing at costco this afternoon and saw these - wondered how they were? I was looking at the chocolate and wondered if they tasted OK. Does anyone know - if I purchased them and didn't like it, could I return the remaining shakes? My guess is no but doesn't hurt to ask! They have 30 g of Protein and only 1 g of sugar (and 160 cals I think).
  7. I think you will be OK. I didn't have a pre-op diet and I ate really crappy right up until the day prior to my surgery. I had zero issues.

Thinking of Cancelling my Surgery.. HELP!!!

I only had a one-day preop diet - my nutritionists said my surgeon was not concerned about fatty liver. That's the reason a lot of surgeons want patients to do a 2-week preop diet. Also it's good to get in the mindset of upping the Protein and portion control. Honestly I wish I would have had a longer required pre-op diet because it's been a bit of a shock to me. That said, you need to be honest with your surgeon's office and let them know what you've been doing. They may not be concerned about it but they may want to postpone.
  9. You look fantastic! What an adorable bump. Also, I don't think your arms look bad at all. I've already decided that no matter how bad my batwings are, I plan on rocking some sleeveless shirts!

So awesome! Congrats on your loss!

    Just had Sleeve Surgery 8/9/11

My hospital sent me home with an 8-oz sippy cup (I'm trying to keep my 5-yr-old from stealing it!) and I also bought a 24-oz Water bottle from Meijer. It has this neat 'auto-seal' push-button opening that really helps me control my sipping. It looks like this: My link I occasionally get that sharp pain from drinking too fast but it passes quickly. I'm learning my limitations quickly!

    Post-Op Pain

definitely talk to your surgeon's office right away, but the pain in the shoulder area can be more gas. If you're not tolerating the mushy food well, you might back off from that and go back to liquids only (and make sure you're getting your protein). Good Luck!

    Post Op Day 6

Do you have an abdominal binder? I left the hospital with a wraparound tight abdominal binder that I can wear as much as I want for my comfort. I don't sleep in it but it's great for when I am walking and moving around the house. If you don't have one from your surgery, you could ask your surgeon's office if you could wrap an ace bandage around?
  14. I wish this was my meal plan! This recommends starting on purees (soft foods )a lot sooner than mine does. I'm on full liquids for an entire month then move to purees for another month.
  15. I would simply show him the guidelines from your surgeon showing that they require chewable vitamins this early after surgery.

    Post Op Day 6

I did - I had my surgery at St. V's Bariatric Center of Excellence with Dr. Diaz. It went wonderful! Where are you having your surgery done?

    4 Days Post OP

I was sleeved Weds - I only had to be on clear liquids for 3 days but now I have to be on full liquids for the rest of the month. My nut's definition of 'full liquids' seems a little more broad than others, though. I can't have tomatoes for 2 months because of the acidity.

    Post Op Day 6

I'm on day 5 and have been able to walk, lay in my bed, etc. I'm a little more tired than usual but otherwise feeling pretty good. Have you been doing a lot of walking? I think that is what has made me feel better (I recall after my c-section it was the same thing - tons of walking helped the healing process immensely). I'm going back to work on day 8 and don't anticipate any problems. You might want to call your surgeon's office if your pain is that excruciating.
  19. Since I'm not going to be off more than 7 days of work I didn't need to worry about claiming disability or FMLA - so I just took a few vacation days and told my boss I was having a minor medical procedure. Most of the people I work with know what type of surgery I'm having and those that don't know now, will likely know soon (they are a gossipy bunch). I'm not a very private person so I'm not worried about it.
  20. If you're drinking sugar-free soda (pop) the rumbling is probably excess gas. My surgeon and nutritionists said no carbonation or caffeine for quite some time due to the healing process.

    Post op update!

I was sleeved on the 10th and agree with you - the first few days were ROUGH. Today is my first full day at home and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm already on full liquids so that is definitely helping.
  22. In my mind I thought I would go on a wild binge, but I decided that having a "last meal" meant that I couldn't eat certain things ever again. I feel like once I'm completely healed and close to or at goal, there's really not much I can't eat in moderation. However, the night before I started my pre-op diet I did go out for a nice steak dinner since I can't have red meat for 18 months (with the exception of lean ground beef).

    Looking for...

The roadside lemonade just mixed with water tasted kinda weak so you could taste the protein in it. I think if you mixed it with crystal light lemonade it might taste better.

    4 Days Post OP

I'm not allowed tomatoes or tomato soup for the first month, but my first month is considered 'modified solids/full liquids' so I can have cottage cheese, soft cheese, yogurt, strained cream Soups, refried Beans, etc. Today was my first day for full liquids rather than Clear Liquids. I did well at b-fast with 1 oz cottage cheese/1 oz unsweetened applesauce. However, I tried a string cheese at lunch and couldn't finish it - I'm not sure if the feeling was "full" or if it was just too much too soon on my baby sleeve, but I was able to finish 1/2 oz of it and 1 oz of sugar-free chocolate pudding. I'm going to try strained cream of mushroom soup for dinner - an oz of that and probably another oz of applesauce.
