    Tuesday Weigh-In Day

Congrats! I am hoping to eventually stick to the weekly weigh-ins but right now I can't help but jump on the scale every morning. I hope I can report a loss like that in the same length of time!!

    Girls weekend wine !?

I don't think it's a good idea this early out, you're still healing. My doc recommends at least 3-6 months before alcohol. There can also be detrimental impact to your liver as it's working overtime due to rapid weight loss.
  3. I'm on day 5 and still having issues with diarrhea. However, I'm sure once I'm eating "real" food things will improve. For those of you veterans, once things were working normally how frequently did you have a BM? I have ulcerative colitis so I tend to be VERY aware of what my gastrointestinal tract is doing.
  4. What are your foods on your stage 2 list? I only did clear liquids for the day of surgery and two days following; since Saturday I've been on full liquids (which on my program includes cottage cheese, refried beans, etc.). I haven't had any issues at all. Just measure measure measure and eat SLOW!!
  5. I had my surgery last Weds and did a clear liquid diet most of the day before. I was really hungry that night before and was a little mopey, but as soon as I got out of surgery and was alert, I definitely did NOT feel hungry. food will be the last thing on your mind during your hospital stay and likely the few days after you get home. I won't lie, it's been tough to stick to the full liquids diet (dang but I want to chew something!) but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. When I have gotten frustrated I have gone for a walk, picked up a book or jumped on the laptop. Good luck to you, you'll do great!
  6. Ugh I am dreading this. I'm lucky too that I have a TON of hair so hopefully it won't be too big of an issue for me.
  7. Good luck to both of you! The time will fly by. My mom was banded last October and as I started to see her losing weight I decided I wanted WLS too. I originally wanted the band but based upon my medical history of colitis my doc recommended the sleeve. I am only 6 days out but best decision I ever made!
  8. Where is your large incision? Others have posted that it is on their left side, but mine is on my right. ?? I'm almost a week out and the only discomfort I'm having right now from my incisions is ITCHING!!

    Better than Mindless Eating

Great idea to go trying on clothes at Goodwill! I can't wait to go do that. I've already noticed how much more energy I have and I'm only 6 days out. It's amazing how much eating cruddy food in mass quantities can drag your body down.
  10. DallasMom, you definitely need to be taking vitamins. There's another thread in this forum that talks about what different people take - but basically you'll need a multivitamin (some docs recommend more than 1 a day) and calcium supplement daily, and B12 once weekly. My doc also wants me to take B1 once weekly. If your multivitamin doesn't have iron then I'm to take an iron supplement as well.
  11. From what I've read here I don't know if there's a lot you can do to avoid the sagging skin if you're prone to it. I'll let the veterans post though based upon their own experiences!
  12. I'm going to email my nutritionist in the morning but wanted to do a quick survey here too. When I had my general pre-op class (which included DS and RNY patients) the general guide for RNY for multivites said 3xday (for the Centrum, the children's chewables, etc. - some were different quantities but none less than 3 a day). The Calcium requirement was 1500 mg of calc citrate. The nutritionist running the class had indicated that would be the same for sleeve patients, at least early on. Well, I was reviewing my discharge paperwork and on the medications sheet, it indicated 1 multivitamin/day and 1200 mg of calc citrate (and then the B12 and B1 weekly). Do any of you take more than 1 multi a day and more than 1200 mg calcium?

    aug 12 been sleeved

    Congrats on your sleeve!
  14. 60 lbs in a little over 3 months is AWESOME! Enjoy the cruise and don't worry about the stall. You'll be back on track before you know it!
  15. OMG, when I saw Dr. Nick I immediately thought of the crackpot doctor from the Simpsons! I'm SURE your Dr. Nick is a much better practitioner.

    Puree stage

It's weird how everyone's food lists and definitions are different, though. My first month is "modified solids/full liquids" but my nut includes refried beans, soft cheese, cottage cheese (along with the normal things like pudding, yogurt, strained soups, etc.). Right now I'm loving refried beans sprinkled with a little cheese and I'm only 6 days out.

    Protein 4 months out

I'm only on day 6 and I am already sick of protein drinks. Once I can add meats in (month 2 during purees I can add in chicken, turkey, tuna) I will be doing everything I can to get all my protein from food.

    Thanks everyone!

    Scared to start Soft Foods

In my nutrition class, they recommended 'testing' foods by adding only one new food every few days, to make sure that it agrees with you. if you add too much back in at once and then have an issue, you won't know what bothered your sleeve.
  20. You're likely to get lots of votes for VSG here, just as if you were posting on a RNY site you'd get votes for that. Based upon your BMI though, sounds like VSG would be good for you. While you won't have the malabsorption you'll have the restriction . . . that's not to say that you couldn't figure out a way to eat "around" your sleeve and still take in all that junk, though. You'd be able to figure that out with RNY eventually too, though. RNY was never a thought for me because I have ulcerative colitis and wasn't having anyone touch my intestines! Good luck on your decision.

    5-day Update...

Thanks for sharing! I'm now on day 5 and could have almost written your post verbatim. I think I'm down about 7 lbs (am going to jump on the scale again in the morning to see). My energy is amazing now! I popped right out of bed this morning and haven't napped all day. I was a junk-food junkie pre-op, and I'm really now able to tell the impact that all that bad stuff had on my body and my energy levels. When my brain starts to piss me off (i.e. head hunger) I've been either jumping online, picking up a book or going outside for a walk. I am really looking forward to getting back to work and back on a schedule.
  22. I actually ditched my digital scale (it never was accurate) and bought an old-fashioned one for $8. Of course it weighs perfectly!

    my surgery story

Thanks for sharing! I had to come home with 6 lovenox shots . . . I've made my husband give them to me. Only 3 more and I'm done. I also had one of my IV's blow my vein, my forearm is still swollen and tender a bit 3 days after it happened. It was my fault though, I caught it on something in my room while I was trying to move around.

    The need to chew

Haha! I love the chewing and spitting out thing. I may be tempted before too long, I'm on full liquids then purees for a full 2 months. I am definitely going to try crunching ice tomorrow.
