I was banded July 25th and it has been the best decision of my life. Today I take my wife to the hospital for surgery at noon to get her band. Very excited for her but at the same time a little nervous for her. I know there is nothing to worry about, just second nature to be worried I guess.I know she will do fine. So excited for her. I will update later tonight or tomorrow morning how she made out. Good luck to her!! Scott

I don't remember the name of the company but I tried an at home study and it was a nightmare. I wound up going to the sleep center to have one and I am glad I did because they go into a more indepth study and actually read your brain waves and such. Also if you do have sleep apniea they work on your presures while your sleeping to make sure it fits you best. At least thats how mine went. Ony thing that sucked about that is sleeping in a strange place with a bunch of wires all over you. But it's only one night. My at home sleep study was supposed to be 3 nights. Hope this helps and good luck!

Stress eater and I havent had a feel yet, and feeling stressful today
Scott 72511 replied to Diona's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
22lbs! Thats great! I know it's gotta be hard to be a stress eater. I am not a stress eater, I am a "eat when I am bored" eater. I just try to stay focused and go do something to get my mind off it. Or have a glass of tea or whatever you like. Have something that can't really hurt you in the long run. Maybe a sugarfree popsicle. Lets face it losing weight is not easy, thats why we are all here. For one another. You can do it! Stay strong and keep the lbs coming off! -
stool softeners
Scott 72511 replied to oldiebutgoodie2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can get chewables or gummies. I use the chewables they are 15 calories and 7 carbs 4grams of dietary fiber and 4grams of soluable fiber per tablet oh and they are sugar free. Made by Fiber Choice. I will admit they dont taste the greatest but they aren't to bad. I havn't tried the gummies yet but I plan to after these are gone. And I am sure you can find some with less or even no calories. Check GNC or a local vitamin shop. I bought these at walmart. -
stool softeners
Scott 72511 replied to oldiebutgoodie2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just have 2 chewable fiber tablets per day and all works well over here...lol I have no need for softeners as long as I remember to take my fiber once in the morning and once at night. -
Isopure protein drink
Scott 72511 replied to acenangel11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used isopure for a while and my nutritionist said 2 scoops is WAY to much. Use 1 scoop in about 6-8 oz. of milk or water twice a day. Course I was using mine in between meals if I got hungery. If your doing an all liquid diet then 3 per day should be enough. But ultimately you should discuss it with your doctor or nutitionist. Good luck with your journey!! -
Stock up on yogert (if you like it), sugarfree popsicles, sugarfree Jello, sugarfree fudgepops, chicken or beef broth, and whatever you like to drink. I use unjury Protein powder, vanilla, choclate, strawberry, and unflavored. Most important advise I can give you is start walking as soon as you can to help with the gas pains. And make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Good luck with everything!
-
I to like unjury protein powder. They have all sorts of flavors. I don't just do a shake, I make a smoothie. Yogert, milk, protein powder, and a little fruit in a blender. Or use the unflavored in whatever you like. When I use the unflavored in something I can tell there is something there but it's not a bad taste. I have even put unflavored in my coffee, soup, jello, and pudding. Hope this helps...

How much longer
Scott 72511 replied to genesishanna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of walking is all that helped me with the gas pains. Did your doctor give you and meds to keep you from feeling sick? If not I would call and ask for some. As for feeling full I wouldn't worry about that right now. Just get any fluids in you that you can. You must stay hydrated. Sip,sip, sip slowly anytime you can. I hope you feel better soon! -
Hello! Newbie...surgery on 9/29...still scared
Scott 72511 replied to Emily331's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I use the unjury Protein powder. They are a little pricey, but most of them are. I use the vanilla, choclate, strawberry, and unflavored ones and I like all of them. I know they have alot of other flavors also. Like broth flavors I believe. I have used GNC Isopure vanilla before and I think it's terrible tasting...lol But everyone is different. Good luck with your journey! We are all here for each other. Scott -
A little Monday morning pep talk.
Scott 72511 replied to MustangMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Very inspiring and very well spoken! It was so great to read a positive post for once lol, as I to have noticed alot of negative posts lately. I was Banded on the 25th of July so I haven't gotten the OK from the doctor to start my routine in the gym. Just walking for now. I am down about 23 lbs since surgery so I am quite pleased. I am glad I made this decision to be banded. For all the people who may be scared of anything about the band I say it's life. What I mean is we all have to make decisions in our life that may not turn out for the best. When I made the decision to have the band I was willing to take the "risks" rather then spend the rest of my life miserable and in an early grave. If there ever comes a bump in the road from the band, I will fix that bump when I get there. For now, I couldn't be happier! Good Luck to everyone! Scott -
3 day post op question
Scott 72511 replied to bellybuster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I would say no. But ultimatelly I would ask your doctor or your nutritionist. Try putting unflavored Protein in your broth.Just make sure the broth isn't to hot or it will change the consistency of the protein. When you put protein in broth, for me I could taste a difference but it wasn't bad. Scott -
I have aetna and I was just banded july 25th. jumped thru hoops since january to get approved. all kinds of tests, and weight supervision for at least 3 months by a nutritionist. good luck on your journey!

Please help, I'm freaking out
Scott 72511 replied to bellybuster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will do great! Nothing to worry about! Dr. Goldstein is a great surgeon. Your pain will get MUCH better with every passing day. Just remember to get up and walk ASAP. And walk when you can to disperse the gas. Good luck to you! Let me know how you make out! -
Hello! 3 days post Lap Band
Scott 72511 replied to April Raine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you keep hydrated! Drink lots of Fluid, but sip, sip, sip. Don't drink to fast. One of the things that kept me from getting hunger pains in between Protein shakes was just constantly sip on somethng all day. I know it sounds like a pain in the butt, but it helped me. That and sugar free popsicles are god sent! I was banded on july 25th and just now starting mushies and I must say I feel like I am in heaven being able to chew something again! Good luck with everything! -
I just want to chew something!!
Scott 72511 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on July 25th and have been on a liquid diet since the 24th. I have 5 more days to go before I can start eating some mushie foods. I am getting tired of having to drink everything and just want something to chew! There is no doubt in my mind I will not give up and eat mushies before I am supposed to. I am also out of work for 6 weeks total post surgery for healing time. Not suppsed to lift more then 20 lbs, can't do this, can't do that.... between being bored out of my skull and not "eating/chewing" anything I will be ready for the nut house! LOL I guess I am just venting and looking for a little support. Thanks Scott -
I just want to chew something!!
Scott 72511 replied to Scott 72511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for your encourageing words! I know I can do it, I am just getting grumpy without something to chew! LOL I am almost afraid I will eat to much or to fast when I finally get to have something since it's been to long. Tomorrow is my first post op apt with my doc. Wonder what kind of news I will get. Probably look at my stomach and say "yep looks good see you in 10 days" and waste my time and gas. But who knows. Talk to everyone soon! Scott -
I also was banded on the 25th and Jello has been a huge help for me. Jello and sugar free Fudge pops. And no matter where I go or what I am doing I am drinking something. I make smoothies out of my Protein podwer. 8oz of skim milk, about 3 tablespoons of light yougert, a 4-6 oz cup of fruit, and protein powder. Blend it in a blender and enjoy! Hope this helps! Scott

My insurance company said weight supervised 6 months by my doctor....OR 3 months by a nutritionist. You might want to check into that so you can cut some time off. I have been seeing my nutritionist about 3-4 months pre op and I still continue to see her. Matter of fact I have an apt tomorrow. Good Luck! Scott
