    Life Of The Band

The band is placed on the outside of the stomach so what goes on inside your tummy stays there and doesnt touch the band The band is meant to last a lifetime nowadays .. but as with all things .. maybe it will maybe it wont, .. how long is a peice of string ... Whatever weight loss surgery u choose theres complications that can occur with all of them, to me the laband had the least invasive surgery and the complications were more of a minor nature. At least if something happens the band can be removed .. to me the surgery was no worse than having a wisdom tooth out .. I would be more scared of having my intestines rerouted in a bypass op

    People From The Uk

I am UK too am over a year post - op now .. let me know if u need any support !
  3. I can go 2 or 3 weeks before i feel the restriction kick in so as far as i know thats just normal, some doctors have stated it can take up to 4 weeks to feel the restriction from a fill as per other forum threads on here so as long as u can drink etc lose some weight and the band will loosen slightly naturally anyways

    Ugh (Need A Little Support)

Well you got hungover because you hardly ate anything and probably was dehydrated too, not having much in your system will make the alcohol affect you even more than normal, so never never drink on an empty stomach or a nearly empty one As for feeling like you did i totally understand why u felt like it, even with the weight i have lost i still feel big and awkward, this is not how i used to be when i was younger but i feel it 10 times more now.. I can put on clothes even now and i hate myself, not because i am fat because im not really anymore but because i dont see what other see, i still see the person who looked huge felt huge and felt like i dont belong, so you dont hear compliments u dont see what others see and it puts u on edge, it can make u paranoid. Getting ready in a hurry doesnt help, or round someones place instead of your own home all im sure added up to u feeling what i would term as stressed. You werent in the frame of mind to enjoy yourself and you didnt ..what u need to do to avoid feeling that way again is to plan things better, take some food to work to eat before u leave so u arent reliant on fast food, make sure u try on what u want to wear the night before u go out, plan acessories to give u a feeling like the whole package. Think of how some famous people who are heavy look and deal with the 'glamour' side of life.. Just plan things a little better and im sure u wont have an evening like it again

    Port Placement? And Friends?

Great news on your weight loss and good job! Isnt it good to get your life back
  9. Sorry to hear about your financial problems, I cant imagine how it feels to have restrictions placed on seeking medical care because of finances we dont have that problem in the uk .. Are you still losing weight ? Often the band will loosen with weight loss on its own, and taking the pain meds will slow down your digestion and cause other problems too so i would try and cut them out or choose another type .. I would follow the common sense type tips for any reflux/heartburn and i would research the dietary rules just google it Eat 6 small meals instead of 3 big meals. Don't eat or drink anything 1 to 2 hours before going to bed. Avoid foods that are known to increase heartburn. Avoid bending over soon after eating. Avoid alcohol. Use an antacid. Sleep with your head and shoulder on an incline. Don't wear clothing that constricts the stomach. Don't smoke. Avoid activities that cause abdominal strain. I think if options are available for u to seek medical help then u should, the last thing u need is to take chances that u will end up with no choice but to get medical help if the bands slips or u cant eat/drink at all.. I really hope u can sort this out, some of the answers may be in your hands but some may not so u may end up having to get medical help no matter what .. good luck
  10. I dont feel my band at all, but ofc you know its there .. my port is placed on my breast bone so i never notice that either .. seems the uk often do port placement on the breast bone to avoid port flips, as its sutured to bone it rarely moves.
  11. I found this article that u may find helpful .... Shoulder Pain After LAP-BAND Surgery Wednesday, 02 March 2011 15:24 Nerve pain in the shoulder is not an uncommon reaction after Lap-Band surgery. Although the actual site of the surgery is nowhere near your shoulder, pain can sometimes travel up to this area via a nerve known as the phrenic nerve. Gas-related nerve pain During your Lap-Band surgery, your surgeon pumps gas into your abdomen to lift the skin and tissue in order to see better. After surgery, some of the gas can stay trapped against the diaphragm, a muscle that extends across the bottom of the rib cage. Pressure in this area can irritate the phrenic nerve, which controls the movement of the diaphragm. The pain then radiates up the nerve and manifests as discomfort in the shoulder and upper arm. Phrenic nerve pain caused by gas is typically not extremely painful and should not last longer than a few days to a week following surgery. The best way to alleviate the pain is to get up and walk as much as possible to help relieve the gas in your abdomen. Warm beverages, heating pads, and massage may also provide some relief. Also, be sure to adhere to the post-surgical diet recommended by your doctor or nutritionist. Eating the wrong types of foods immediately after surgery can cause your stomach to become bloated, which will only worsen the nerve pain. Long-term nerve pain Some patients may continue to experience shoulder pain long after their surgeries. Overeating or sitting in certain positions may shift the position of your band, causing irritation and further pain. Some patients may experience shoulder pain when lying down or when sitting in a car. For many patients, the pain goes away as they lose more weight. Others continue to experience minor arm and shoulder pain, but find that the benefits of their Lap-Bands outweigh the discomfort. If you continue to experience shoulder pain months after your surgery, heating pads, pain Patches, or muscle rubs may help. Keep a record of when the pain occurs; if it corresponds to when you eat, try eating smaller but more frequent meals. If the pain persists and interferes with your everyday activities, talk to your doctor. http://www.beyondtheband.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31:shoulder-pain-after-lap-band-surgery&catid=3:news&Itemid=19 - 24k - Cached
  12. I found a heat pad was the best for my gas pain in the shoulder, i didnt have it bad but all the gas meds didnt touch it as its not in your digestive system so exercise like walking and gentle heat seem to work well..
  13. Most dont feel much different after the first few fills, you may be lucky and feel some restriction or you may not, so keep up the great work you are doing and be patient it might take 4 or 5 fills to get the right amount in your band

    Tips To Stay On Track

i keep on track by following my own advice that i would give someone else asking me the same question Do's Make losing this weight the priority in your life. Make the scales your friend not your enemy. Be determined that you will not get sidetracked from getting to your goal. Try to get as much Protein from fresh food as you can, fish, chicken and turkey are good, some vegetables are too like frozen peas, then milk products like 0 fat yoghurt, 0 fat cottage cheese and skimmed milk. Become your own expert. Learn from mistakes, like what food sticks and what food you can eat. Do as much exercise as you can, find what works for you then stick to it, every day without fail, push yourself a little further each week. Burn more calories than you eat. Follow your nutritionist’s/dietician’s and surgeon's advice. Use your own common sense, everything in moderation works well. Make a sharp knife and a teaspoon your essential items. Eat what your body needs not what your mind tells you Dont's. Eat as little processed food as possible. Dont eat anything that is white ( bread, Pasta, rice etc) too high carbs and calories. Dont test the band to see the limits of what you can and cant eat. Dont buy food that will tempt you, if its not in the home u cant eat it . Dont try to cheat, the only person who will pay for it is you. Dont let yourself down. Dont eat junk food as a treat, find another treat ! Dont get stressed or impatient, things may take longer than u want. Dont make life difficult for yourself, have food in the freezer that you can eat, plan meals ahead of time. Dont eat with your mind or eyes, eat what your body needs. Good luck

Calories In V. Calories Out Is B&#%!$@!t

If i ate what my BMR said i should i know i would put on weight.. i eat 1000 calories a day and burn 1000 calories a day .. with strength training and exercise bike .. it has for over a year worked for me, but i have to eat metabolic foods like broccoli and chili, salmon etc .. its not just about weight loss tho its about how much weight u would have put on if u hadnt been banded .. If the formula u follow isnt working then change something, increase protein, lower the carbs change the exercise, but if you dont change anything its likely nothing will change . good luck !

    Need Help! !

How much weight would u normally put on in 2yrs pre-band.. look at the whole picture not just your weight loss, do u feel fitter, are u eating more healthy food.. do a kick start and go back to basics .. good luck
  19. I would get in some strength training. Some of us if we do the same exercise daily just end up on a plateau. U said yourseld u havent changed a thing.. theres the clue... small changes can make all the difference.I do exercise bike and road bike, weights and dumbells and a 1000 calories a day, my body seems to think its maintenance time lol couple of weeks ago i had flu, didnt feel like exercising so i didnt. I did rigorous housework, cleaning floors paintowrk etc, boom that week 4lbs gone ... make some changes but make them small. Try higher protein, or lower the carbs u eat, anything small to shock your body into doing something !

    Sick!?!?! Or From Fill???

You cant expect to eat the same after a fill as to what you ate before it. Most after a fill go on mushies and liquids for a day or 2 to allow for any swelling to go down. I am sure u can live without french fries too
