What Would You Do If You Were Me?
Cazzy replied to Caribear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Excellent idea Do you have a hernia ? i know its been suggested u could get that quickly done under insurance and then just pay on top for the banding at the same time -
I always found the big milestones like 300lbs and 200lbs for some reason were the hardest to get under .. no idea why it might just be sod's law .. try changing something like what u eat or when or add some strength training to exercise if u arent doing any thats always a good calorie burner or when i was stuck i didnt do my cycling i went mad on housework washing paintwork etc, worked a treat anad kick started me back again.. Routine works for a good while then u need to shock your body a bit a change things up .. it normally responds

I did home made soups and stick blended till they were like a puree of veg that is really filling if u stick to broccoli, cauliflour frozen peas, i also used to puree smoked salmon with some lemon jiuce and 0% mayo, )0% greek yoghurt is very filling just add some skimmed milk if its too thick and add a teaspoon of maple syrup .. i still eat that now as a good source of protein and a filling desert. Puree fruit, but mind the calories, berries are best lowest carbs and sugar and sieve them if they have too many seeds. Mash up some cottage cheese, humous anything that is a soft paste u can eat, i know people who even ate baby food as its calorie and additive controlled .. not a great taste but does the job I am sure theres a whole thread on the puree type food somewhere in this forum ! good luck ..

Completely Devistated....vent
Cazzy replied to Nikki Riviotta's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I hope u get a positive outcome from your appeal, but dont give up the fight whatever u do . As a last resort i would definitely seek the opinion of a Dermatologist. Someone who can give a professional opinion regarding the skin rashes their long term effects on your skin and the cost of continually treating such rashes etc etc. If necessary even seek a psychologists opinion on long term pain, self esteem, depression etc.. you have to fight fire with fire and sometimes these large corperations need to know u arent going to just 'go away' I know someone on this forum mentioned a lawyer who specialises in Insurance appeals .. i will try and find the thread for you.. it might be an idea to go that way too .. good luck, i am coming up to needing my skin removed to and although i am in the Uk my Health serivce here will also want to make me go away, which i will not be doing -
Am I The Exception To The Rule???
Cazzy replied to stuigi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont think the path you have taken is that much different from what is in general the 'rules' of lapbandland you just deviated on the time line. Here in the Uk the advice from my surgeon after a fill is just be careful, and there isnt really the emphasis on protein shakes either. Fresh healthy food is what is promoted and that is what i have stuck to. You will probably feel more restriction with more fills. I had to do 4 weeks post - op liquids then 4 weeks mushies, so to me some of the timelines for post - op appear faster because of the difference in docotrs guidelines. The advice from Doctors is normally cautionary but equally what they know works and has least risk of creating complications, in general it is safer to follow the doctors guidelines than not, but at least your openess about the path u chose was honest.. As long as you dont promote the 'i didnt follow the rules and i am ok' sort of philosophy then good luck to you .. All i would suggest is that you have some of the 'softer' lean cuisine meals in the freezer to choose from post fill days ... -
I stay around 1000 calories, sometimes 900 sometimes 1100 .. i know my metabolism has speeded up because of building muscles but in the beginning i was nearly 3 months pre - op on 600 calories a day and it worked. Its very hard to judge an amount of calories per day because there does have to be an average whereby in general people will lose weight, i would say thats about 1200 calories a day, some can eat up to1500 some cant. what is important is that whatever the amount of calories that you eat and that works, you eat a healthy balanced diet that nutritionally meets your bodies needs.

Soo Frustrated- Still No Restriction
Cazzy replied to skinnygrrlatheart's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dont forget the hunger some fo you are feeling is head hunger, this can take a long while to get under control, i have good restriction but some days i am hungry all day. Those days i will snack on small items such as cottage cheese, sugar free jello, soup and tea and coffee and if i go over my calories i do extra exercise to burn it off. I think some of us will never get rid of 'hunger' pangs but its how u deal with it that will make the difference .. In all the time i have been banded i have never put on weight , the formula for me works, u need to find what works for you and stick to it. Good luck and try to rely on yourself as much as on fills. I am at 7.5 cc in a 14cc band. -
Feeling Like A Failure.. Failed Sleep Study Again..
Cazzy replied to Liftingchic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I find it strange that I weighed so much at one time and didnt have sleep apnea.. I did read some internet stuff on this subject and wondering if training your breathing muscles helps in any way ? also from a child I always had asthma and could never sleep with less than 3 pillows which i always still do now .. i know this helps acid reflux which i dont have either but does this affect apnea too ? When i was younger, even tho i was asthmatic i was in training to swim long distances, this developed my lungs a lot and i used to do county level swimming along with diving. Would training your breathing muscles and developing them further by something like swimming, proper swimming not leisure swimming help u think ? I know some of it is genetic but was curious if there is something u can do other than relying on mechanical means especially if u have already lost the weight to help u breathe while u sleep ? -
Great idea .. keep up the good work !

Split Pea Soup With Chicken Apple Sausage
Cazzy replied to feliciadawn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I make broccoli and cauliflour soup and add frozen peas near the end and blitz, i have eaten that every day for lunch for the past year i love it .. i also add some chilli flakes to it to spice it up a little and help with speeding the metabolism up a bit .. ill try the split pee stuff too U can get pea protein on Amazon in the UK it has less absorbtion issues than whey protein I just get the plain powder and add to yoghurt ... -
I think the point u make Colin is a very valid point and i feel needs emphasisng more ! Many times i have read on here that people have gone for many months even years without going back to the doctor and having a check up or getting more fill and they end up putting a ton of weight back on and then are puzzled as to whats going on. I know sometimes its a money issue for some people but so is eating too much, it does cost u more in the long run. Maintaining your band is essential to be succesful just as much as anything else. If you notice u are getting hungrier quicker or can eat more of the food that u couldnt before then go get the band checked out and dont leave it too long ...

I would also say that its not really jealousy but fear and insecurity. I am sure after things return to routine and time elapses that it will improve and things will settle down again. It may also be that there is some element of protectiveness there from him, thinner people tend to appear more vulnerable and he may feel like he has to protect you more now, hence the stepping in front of you ... It might be an idea to show him that he is still the one in the same ways he does for you, dont just reply to texts send him ones yourself. I am not saying send him flowers but find something he would like and make a thank you gift for all his support. Notes in his pockets that he finds when he is at work, etc etc.. Its not just a case of reassurance but also making him feel as special as u do now that u have lost the weight.. I am sure things will work out and settle down. Good luck !

4 Days Post-Op And Lots Of Pressure Under My Ribs
Cazzy replied to Sarahbear0429's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pressure u are feeling is almost certainly due to gas in your abdomen and swelling from the operation its self. I found a heat pad very soothing at this stage, just a gentle warmth not too hot. U may also find the pain shifts to your left shoulder this is very common too. The time to seek medical help if u cannot drink any fluids at all .. I wish u a speedy recovery. -
It is advisable if you end up throwing up to go back to liquids for a couple of days to let the swelling go down, if u remain tight after this time and are having difficulty getting fluids down then its time to go back and see your doctor .. I wish u better !
-
The amount of fills u have should not affect your fluid intake at all. If you cant take fluid down then the band is too tight and u will need a small unfill. The band was designed to restrict food not water Lots of little sips is best when working out. good luck !

I was self pay and it was worth every penny, i would do it all over again if i needed to. I only wish it had been possible when i was a lot younger but better late than never. Now i stand a chance of living to my old age years

Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris
Cazzy replied to susanlondon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey Slinky .. I was going to go with Dr. Chris but found Nuffield hospital group was similar price so i went with them and didnt have to travel. Nuffield is a charity status so althought they are private its a non profit organisation so its not top end costs .. I wondered where all the uk people were hanging out as the uk specific thread seemed a little quiet now i found u all i will keep my eyes on this thread Thanks i have done well but its been hard work but worth it .. u have done well too so close to goal -

How Long Was Your Hospital Stay?
Cazzy replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed over night, i could have stayed another night if i had wanted to or gone home the same day, i am glad i stayed overnight, it felt right for me -
I would contact the purchasing officer of the hospital where u had surgery, they will often get items much cheaper like this because of purchasing contracts and purchasing power, they may be able to get one for you if u have trouble purchasing one on line. The other thing i would do is discuss this with your doctor as increasing the circulation can put more pressure on the heart and u need to know that using this for extended periods would be safe .. good luck with trying to get this sorted. Just as a foot note there is a certain form of massage that can be done to drain lymphatic fluid in the legs and it might be an idea to get reading on how to do it, or get partner/hubby/support whoever to learn it for u ... All the info i am sure will be at the clinic to treat it so the appointment should help in many ways
