Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
Cazzy replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally agree cold is the last thing i would reach for if my band was causing problems. Ice is used to treat trauma and swelling in tissue but the band is not made of tissue just plastic and plastic doesnt do well when its cold .. imo but as we all know everyone is different and so are the medical interventions, the UK do not use ice packs post surgery for lapbands either ... but if it works theres no harm -
Feeling Like A Loser...banded 3/23/12 Need Some <3
Cazzy replied to hunnybee11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes the calories in food dont really reflect what sort of food it is or the make up of it, too much sugar will def put on the lbs if u arent burning it off with vigorous exercise. I did exercise biking and strength as my main exercises and eat around 1000calories a day cycling burned around 500 to 600 intially so get moving more i am sure u will get some more weight off soon -
Yes i agree give them a call.. keeping fingers crossed for u and good luck with the surgery
-
Good luck with the new band and i wish u a speedy recovery ..
-
I agree its probably just the result of soreness and exercise .. rest for a few days and see how u go if not call up your doctor and get them to take a look

Feeling Yucky On First Day Of Pre-Op Diet
Cazzy replied to donna12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes when u start a pre-op liquid diet its about withdrawals of food that make u feel a bit strange/different/wierd/sick/dizzy most people have been eating too much sugar and carbs and when these are drastically reduced u will get those withdrawal symptoms so stick with it, not everyone gets them ready2loseit so dont be concerned i am sure u will be ok .. most people are -
Having a lapband fitted and losing weight is far more about determinination and committment rather than age ... work hard at whatever age you are and u should be successful I was 56 yrs old when i had my band fitted !

Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
Cazzy replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree my doctor told me the same.... and if i dont drink a warm tea or coffee first thing in the morning i cannot eat breakfast, there are many of us who need warmth to relax the band, ice helps reduce swelling too but often just after trauma or the operation, if i drink something like cold orange juice then try and eat 30 mins later i get stuck .. Warmth is much better .. although like most things there are exceptions and some may very well find relief with ice .. -
It could be many reasons why u arent losing weight, having a band fitted is probably the least likely Now u have to examine calories eaten calories burned, you dont mention exercise or how much you are doing, even if its only walking it still burns calories. Also a difference of 200 calories per day may not seem a lot but if u arent exercising it is quite a lot more than it appears, if u arent doing much u need to eat as fewer cal;ories as possible, so i would try 1000 calories a day and no more ... i wasnt a lucky person and had to fight for every lbs i lost, which did include counting all calories and counting how many i burned with exercise. Some foods are heavy on carbs and sugar and fat which u need to avoid, same as salty processed food and anything processed and white except 0% dairy .. anything else that is white is a no no. Yes some people can lose weight eating pretty much anything just small portions and some lose weight not counting calories, but it sounds like u are very finely balanced and u need to be extra vigilent in what and how much u eat. get some exercise in and reduce your calories slightly and make sure those calories are superfoods like broccoli and beans and chilli etc all to kick up your metabolism. good luck i am sure the scales will start moving soon

Well i am now 3 days out of surgery. The surgery took 11 hours i ended up with a catheter, 8 drainage tubes and a whole 24 hours in the high dependency unit. It was more uncomfortable and sore rather than lots of pain, today i have had my pressure garments changed and my arm drains out tomorrow i should have my abdomen drains out and finish with them yay lol i am sitting out in a chair today looking at a nice sunny day ty all for your caring words and concerns .. i am not expecting miracles at my age but it certainly is looking good from what iu can see they took 9lbs of skin away

Once You Reach Goal..did You Change It?
Cazzy replied to jennifer1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I know exactly what you all mean and speaking as someone who has been through tons of sizing on her way down i can tell you that in most cases u will never be satisfied with the way you look at goal weight. When i weighed the same as i do now many years ago i would have been 3 sizes smaller than what i am now, even tho i have just had my skin removed there is no way i will ever look like i used to, most of that is down to age and genetics and hormones. Bodies dont like the clock being turned back so they do other things instead, my face, my butt and my breasts were the first areas to lose all this weight and i hate it ... but at least i am healthy now and at 58 i dont suppose it matters as much as if i was 28 so good luck and i hope you get where u want to be -
I always rely on fresh protein, i have never had a protein shake and not really ever needed/wanted one .. in the UK there isnt the push to buy protein powders here and u need to think about in the long term, will u still be buying protein powders 5 yrs post op etc, better to try and eat normal healthy food and get your nutrients naturally. Obviously some will need the extra protein that shakes can offer but names give away what the product was designed for .. Protein suppliments are meant to suppliment a normal diet, meal replacement protein shakes are there to replace a meal, they are much higher in calories and are not meant to be fillers and sliders in between meals .

Fascinating pictures ty for sharing.. I am so sorry to hear of your problems, i hope you are able to sort out the band and get well again soon
-
I agree with shauna this isnt normal and u need to seek medical help as soon as u can. I am sure this wont have anything to do with the band but u never know, being physically sick as against the stuck sliming sick is not good for the band and can cause some slippage so u need to try and get this sorted out asap. Food can stay in your main stomach up to 8 hrs sometimes longer, as a normal part of digestion .. good luck
-
diet soda is full of chemicals too and can in some instances raise your blood sugars.. some people can tolerate carbonated drinks post banding personally i cant but a good alternative would be carbonated spring water and just let it stand for a while to let a lot of the gas go before u drink it
-
I agree with the above 2 posters .. i would seriously start looking for a new doctor who will do fills for you and i would also demand a fill from your current doctor .. the band was specifically designed to be filled and if they are refusing to fill you then they really shouldnt be banding anyone to be honest, You need to question this policy and ask them for a copy of the research they are basing this medical decision on. I would then complain to the insurance company paying your bill that this operation was done under false pretences etc ... good luck u have done great on yopur own but darn it i think u deserve a fiil !

We all should be following our surgeons instructions as to the timecscales they want us to follow diet wise... post op is a time of healing , its essential that u dont make the stomach move around by trying to digest solid food too early I use a sharp knife for salad and cut really small, most days it doesnt get stuck but ocassionally it will bite me and get stuck so be gentle with ypourself and cheww like crazy and small bites only .. if u are on solids then u should be ok

Loosing Weight But Getting Some Skin
Cazzy replied to Mzjamison79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the other thing to do is to photograph the rashes every time they are angry and inflamed .. u also need to visit the doctor everytime this happens too this may provide u with enough evidence to get the insurance to pay for the skin removal at some point as a medical proceedure. I have just undergone an 11 hour operation to remove excess skin, this is a big operation. I used to pad out the sore bits on my tummy so that the skin would never touch each other, this helped a lot in prevention and making sure u dont use too perfumed washing powder or fabric softner on anything that will be touching your skin. good luck .. -

Yes You Can Drink And Eat At The Same Meal Time
Cazzy replied to Helen Bauzon's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
i have read quite a few articles here in the uk which also supports this theory about how quickly food passes through the pouch. It would also explain why a lot of people can drink when they eat .. like all new information it will be argued about for a good while yet .. Some people can still eat large amounts of food and yet their pouch isnt distended or their band particularly loose so i think there is clear evidence around that it is possible that this is just as valid a theory than any other .. -
Thanks all for the nice messages well i had to return to the ward over the weekend as i am so full of fluid at the minute that the surgeon requested me to go there so she could look me over .. all is ok but i need to go back to the girdle compression with legs as my legs are really full of fluid .. apart from that all is ok , suprisingly very little pain with no heavy duty painkillers from around day 3 .. can see anything till after next week and the compression garments come off for the first time lol shape looks good tho .. am eating like a horse so will need to get some fill in a couple of weeks .. and yes post surgical blues seems obligatory.. i been crying and stressing out lol poor DH he has the patience of a saint

Help!!! Should I Change My First Fill Date??? Help!!!
Cazzy replied to ktsped's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most 'first fills' the majority of people feel no different .. but there is an odd one or two people that do feel a little too tight afterwards, the decision is either plan a 'just in case' solution like plenty of protein drinks and liquids or postpone for a few days .. .. its your call -
Yea i agree with this .. u need to make the best of your time on the bike. I have a normal exercise bike and a road bike and cycle around 25 miles a day which works for me .. its around 80 mins time wise .. ive not done any real spin cycling but interval cycling on any bike is a great work out too So u had to have more sutures in your arms ? ouchie, i cant even see my arms till next weekend till the compression garments come off , the only thing i can see is the shape and i am impressed lol I am thinking i will go back for a fill in 2 weeks maybe if i am still healing ok as i am absolutely starving and this heat wave we got here at the minute is driving me crazzzy for all those nice bbq treats .. i am still very swollen with fluid but gradually its going but the scales dam those scales lol
