I think the field trip idea is great for people who arent confident in what to buy and cook and eat, go for it , sounds like your nutritionist is on the ball

I am sure u will be fine .. medical advances have made surgery so much safer nowadays so dont worry its over very quick, u might get a bit of gas pain afterwards and some discomfort like u been kicked in the stomach but seriously i was in more pain after having an operation to remove my wisdom teeth good luck .. we wish you well ..
-
It really doesnt hurt at all and i never have a numb first as that means u have 2 injections and not just one .. its normally over so quick i never feel a thing and to be honest i think blood tests hurt more .. i am sure u will do fine ..

You are early in the process and it isnt unusual for people not to lose much weight if any and to still feeling hungry. Most people dont start to feel less hungry and more restricted till they have a few fills under their belt. You have already lost a good amount of weight so dont be impatient, the average should be 1 to 2 lbs weekly .. just keep doing what u are doing and u should be fine and dont be too disappointed if u dont feel much after the first fill, many people dont ...

I think its a great idea, personal trainers can provide focus and expertise and motivation and accountability so good luck to you and there is no way after a session with a personal trainer u could be described as 'lazy' I am sure a lot more people would hire them if they had the finacial means to .. let us know how u get on as i have often thought of maybe doing the same, only because i saw one locally who specialises in over 50's .. ( my bracket lol ) and after all the repair work and surgery to remove my excess skin i wouldnt want to not do the right exercises to optimise the surgery..

Yea me too, it doesnt make much difference in the overall scheme of things but annoying and inconsiderate to say the least ! u have my sympathy

Hey Jim sorry to hear u are having a rough time at the minute, it sounds like your mother and mine went to the same finishing school, i asked her not to tell anyone and she does the total opposite claiming , oh i forgot and it just 'slipped out' grrr getting back to slow weight loss, if u find that its too slow Jim u need to change something, eating around 1200 calories should do a guy your stature, low carbs, its not just about calories its about how those calories are made up, low fat and use salt sparingly that can put on 2 lbs overnight. Be aware of drinking calories in things like protein drinks, unless u are factoring in the calories or are substituting meals with a shake. Good old protein and fresh green veg are the best and most satisfuying way to get what u need nutrient wise. Exercise may need a tweak too, make sure u do some cardio followed by some strength training and if possible it needs to be done daily, tsake some resistance bands to work if u sit at a desk and use them when u are taking a 5 mins break .. If things arent moving then u need to tweak what you are doing and try again, i increased my metabolic type food like chilli and broccoli when i slowed down weight loss wise and that worked for me .. good luck with the weight loss and 'mother' too

I agree with toddy entirely all that peanut butter is 'crazzy' if i have peanut butter i have 1 teaspoon i dont go anywhere near tablespoons on high calorie foods its easy to think we are doing the right thing but honestly if the scale isnt moving something is wrong and u need to change things.. i was banded the day after you and have lost 237 lbs i maybe have had 10 teaspoons of peanut butter since being banded and those i counted as a treat i counted everything in calories till i now know what i can eat and what i cant and i stay around 1000 to 1200 calories a day which is low fat/low carb .. good luck

Artificial Sweetners Give Me Mugraines!!!
Cazzy replied to brwnangel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with holly stevia is a plant based sweetner and isnt made from chemicals at all, u should do fine with it .. i also use a teaspoon of maple syrup in my greek yoghurt its a complex sugar so isnt as bad for u .. as refined white sugar .. if u add sugar to something u are in control of the amounts and to be honest a small amount of unrefined sugar isnt that bad for us, what is bad is all the hidden sugars in processed foods and even suagrs in the low calorie yoghurts etc, better to get plain unsweetened things and add your own fruit and maybe a small amount of sugar .. u are in control then -
Find some fun things to do with the kids that way you can enjoy their holidays and work out at the same time

Gaining Weight Or Stuck At A Plateau Anyone?
Cazzy replied to Lou Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would suggest for exercise you look at an exercise bike , maybe a recumbent one and just do it at your own pace, also just walking around move when u are even sitting down, hands or light dumbells, u dont need to put any pressure on your back .. my back was bad when i was at my heaviest and the exercise bike was really the only thing i could manage as it was still sitting down .. good luck -
speedy recovery to all recent bandsters .. now the hard work begins but the light is at the end of the tunnel
-
It sounds like u know what to do u just dont like doing it lol i actually exercise a lot ... do i like it .. i have to be honest and say no not really, but i like how i feel afterwards and that keeps me moving, i cycle around 20 to 25 miles a day sometimes on my exercise bike in front of my tv and sometimes if its a nice day, on my road bike i also do strength training .. this has served me well for quite some time and allowed me to lose the weight i needed and not get fed up doing it .. so get moving and the weight loss is a good motivator

its hard to get going again but u have made a good start keep up the good work ! -
Yup you read it correctly 237 lbs lost and another 9lbs lost on Plastic Surgery to remove the excess skin in a 11 hour operation
-
My fills can take up to 2 to 3 weeks before i feel any difference
-
I hate to remind some of the pre-surgery posters but are you aware that you will be on a liquid diet post - op too ? Liquid diets post - op can last from 1 week to 4 weeks depending on what your surgeons guidelines are so i would check it out if u dont know .. good luck for the up and coming surgery tho
-
i was on 600 calories a day for 10 weeks pre-op and i never went anywhere near starvation mode .. if u arent hungry on 800 or so calories then thats fine too.. everyone is different some count calories as that is how we monitor our food, some just eat smaller portions, some just weight everything .. the most important part of this is 'You just do what works for you ' !.

I have read this too,too much protein can affect the liver and insulin levels .. i think u will find better information on protein absorbtion and contra indications for too much protein on the sites that are about body building etc, as quite often they are obsessed with nutrition and suppliments. I also read that 20grms of protein is roughly what your body can absorb at any given time so it does need to be a steady stream and dont try and eat all your protein at once ..

Everyone heals at differing rates so it may well be that u are a little slow in healing ( in your mind ) a lot of people take weeks before they begin to feel 'normal' again, so dont rush it, take yopur pain meds, walk as much as possible and drink your fluids, healing is an important part of this process so dont be in a hurry just do what u can and follow your docs guidelines this time will soon pass

Lbl, Tt And Bl Scheduled For 06/14
Cazzy replied to Skinny_Jill's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well i was a little tight before i had surgery, so band doc suggested 1mls unfill b4 surgery which worked perfectly. was able to eat almost anything which i thoroughly enjoyed, after so much surgery i felt i needed to treat myself .. the compression garments i have are supplied by the hospital but are US made from a company called Marena - they make the best compression garments but they can be expensive .. the website seems to be down at the moment for me in the UK but u might have more luck in the US http://marenagroup.com/ - 60k - Cached i have the long sleeved compression garment for my arms and the long legged version with high waist for my 360 degrees abdominoplasty and my body lift .. my legs are swollen as hell due to the disruption to the lymphatic system but this is normal i am told, i am also wearing compression stockings to help this and to help avoid DVT. To be honest i had more trouble recovering from a caesarian lol I have made sure i take my multivitamins, drink orange juice and eat fish and chicken to help with the healing, my PS is very keen on natural type help and really pushes the healthy food to help healing. I have a lot of healing to do and am 2 weeks post op, the scars seem to be healing well, PS is very pleased with the progress and given i am nearly 58 yrs old i could have had a lot more complications than i have so far ... Food is a comfort so try to eat healthy but eat well, and make sure u take your pain meds if u need them. I havent had a lot of pain, it was more soreness and being uncomfortable ... and be prepared to rest a lot, u need to rest to heal so dont rush things at home and take your time to heal properly. feet up when u can and just pamper yourself : good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery ... -
List Of "mushy Foods" Please Let There Be Salmon On That List.
Cazzy replied to lassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to make salmon pate with blended salmon and 0 % cream cheese , and would do the same with smoked salmon too .. other fish i found a little harsh like tuna My doctor wouldnt consider salad a mushie at all and i dont think your stomach will either u are still quite early on in the process so u are still healing , take it slow and all will be fine
