Had Handing 21 June Feel Gassy
Cazzy replied to wenzz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They pump u full of gas to do the operation and this does get absorbed into your digestive system too, so u will be quite gassy and maybe for a good while yet .. i was full of gas post op after eating u just have to take things slowly follow your doctors orders and things will eventually get better, but gas is normal yes -
12 days post op isnt that long .. be kind to yourself and and rest a alot, dont expect to be full of energy and u can walk as exercise, it is good for you .. eat what u have been told to eat with maybe some fruit juice and suppliment it with some multi vitamin, your body is adjusting to the new lower food intake so dont be expecting too much too soon and the soreness will eventually go, we all heal at different rates, just be patient and it will all be ok .. being tired after any surgery can last for a good few weeks .. rest a alot and eat well u will be ok

Did You Use Heat Or Ice Post-Op?
Cazzy replied to trisket's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
heating pad for me .. its much more soothing and helps the gas .. -
I never let it become a problem prunes or prune juice are very good for keeping the system going, also keeping up your intake of fibre through veg and fruit is essential .. a lot of people on the forum take stool softeners too ..

What Can I Expect After The Band????
Cazzy replied to allik07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had very little pain post surgery, i had more pain having a wisdom tooth out, but the gas is uncomfortaable so heating helped a lot -
I always graze when cooking lol but i use a teaspoon and so whatever i graze on is only a small amount.. The trick is lovemythreems to not buy naughty food u cannot eat it then, if u really cant do without a naughty food , find something that isnt high calorie, plain dark chocholate will solve the craving but not be so calorie laden .. best is obviously to try and avoid cravings, but i was always told if u are going to cheat then make sure its only a small cheat.. I had to count calories, having to lose so much weight there was no way i could do it any other way .. but thats just me ..

Well done Jeani and keep up the good work you are doing great

I would definitley have something to eat before u go to a party and then stick to small amounts of soft food u know wont get stuck, i would steer clear of raw veg tho, one night isnt going to put back tons of weight and if u arent hungry before u go u can just 'nibble' things and look like u are eating Eating out i stick to the fish or salads or a soup .. ..

I can only eat most meats on the day they are cooked and i makes life a little more difficult is all, i can get away with some chicken the next day if i cut it wafer thin .. the tirick is to get yourself an exceptionally sharp knife, like a tomato knife and slice meat so u can almost see through it, do not cube it .. slicing cuts through the fibres of the muscles and the smaller they are the less likely u will stick on them

Asking My Doc Tomorrow
Cazzy replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tia and welcome to the forum, I would suggest that u make an appointment with a bariatric surgeon and go to one of the information seminars thaat many of the bariatric surgeons run. U also need to check with your insurance company if they cover this surgery and what the requirements are to get approval. I sounds like u will meet the criteria most have due to your co-morbidity of diabetes ... Reading this forum will also help you get the information u need to make an informed decision. -

Protein Vs. Calories Vs. Fat Vs. Carbs
Cazzy replied to Missy05.29.12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well as i am english my food choices will probably slightly different to you but on a normal day i eat around a 1000 calories a day .. breakfast i have smoked salmon every morning on a low carb type crispbread .. i dont think u get them in the uS but they are like a savoury cracker type thing with low fat spread and probably 2 cups of tea one cup of coffee with skimmed milk ..# lunch is the same very day home made green veg soup and another crispbread, followed by some sugar free jello made with water and an equal amount made with milk , if i am still hungry i will have some greek yoghurt 0% fat with a teaspoon of maple syrup on it .. dinner i start off every night with a weight watchers tomato soup, i do this as i am normally hungry and eating a 70 calorie soup before dinner really helps curb the hunger and stops u eating to much or too fast, i follow this by fish or chicken or some protein with either 2 green veg or a mixed salad . followed by my sf jello made with water and same with milk ... i tend to drink tea of coffee as and when during the day to stave off any hunger pains .. snacks can be greek yoghurt , or cottage cheese or if u are really hungry u could have another soup I burn around 600 to 1000 calories a day on my exercise bike and doing strength training .. this is essential to keep the metabolism up ... i dont miss a day cycling .. this routine i have followed for approx a year and half, i am in recovery from my cosmetic surgery to remove my skin and so i had to stop the exercises for a while, i am eating slightly more because of needing the extra for healing .. i had 1 mls removed from my band for surgery .. iw ill go soon and get this replaced .. the trick is with this band, is to become your own expert, stick with what works and change things if it doesnt work ... dont cheat .. plenty of time to cheat once u hit goal ... good luck ! -
Mushies can be described as something that u can mash up with a fork, i suggest that maybe u get a good amount of your protein in those days for breakfast and just concentrate on eating something during the day . sea food cannot be described as mushies a soft fish with a small amount of mash potatoe u could get away with but the seafood that is from any shell is mainly muscle so will be tough

Actually having a lapband and the subsequent drop in calories and different nutrition can alter things like your hair its thickness and how much of it u have, and how strong it is, so maybe some of that contributed to it just a thought !
-
Totally agree with your doctor, no one here will ever get near starvation mode i was on a pre-op diet of 600 calories for 10 weeks lost nearly 40 lbs and never got anywhere near starvation mode .. your doctor is absolutely right !!
-
U need to get to like eating green veg, it fills u up, increases your metabolism , is cheap and quick to cook and u can chop real small. greek yoghurt 0% fat and fish salmon or smoked salmon is good for protein, u can eat salads etc, if u do treat yourself to a few bites of pasta make sure its the whole grain pasta .. just eat nothing that is white or processed u will be fine ..

Protein Vs. Calories Vs. Fat Vs. Carbs
Cazzy replied to Missy05.29.12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat probably around 30 carbs a day not many more and fat i dont count but only eat low fat or 0% and sugar is either sugar free or complex sugars like tsp maple syrup .. but i dont really count sugar either and salt i use low sodium salt and try to restrict my salt intake .. dont eat processed foods or any foods that are white other than 0% fat dairy things good luck the transition from liquids to mushies/soft food always runs the risk of a gain in weight and u are still quite new to the process, just accept there will be fluctuations in your weight till you start getting some restriction and then things should settle down more .. -
from what i have read on this forum most who have been filled then completely unfilled never reach that same level of restriction again. If you are at max fill then i suggest u look at other methods to shed this 20lbs ... u dont mention how much fill u have or what size band so is it just your doctor who wont fill u any more and another might ? Something needs to change tho, maybe look at what calories u are eating or how those calories are made up, reduce the carbs maybe increase the protein etc same with exercise increase it , u are so close to goal dont let this beat u, the solution is out there somehwere u just need to make sure u burning more clories than u are consuming.. a defecit of 500 calories per day will lead to a loss of 1lb per week.. some of us, like i was had to stick to 1000 calories a day and still burn lots of calories to lose the weight u just need to start changing things around till u find something that works. Exercise... maybe do more strength after your cardio that will help burn more calories, good luck with it anayways if u think u have a leak in the band maybe go back to your surgeon anyways and get it checked out
-
Its a personal choice for everyone as to what they eat, and with restriction the band will help with how much you eat. If u are happy to take a chance u might put on weight or lose but very slowly before u hit the green zone then u can carry on eating bread/ processed foods or junk foods like pizza . To me its food like that that got most people to the point where they needed a band .. Isnt it like thinking its ok for an alcoholic to have a small drink each day ? Some of you of course will be able to eat some junk food and not have any effects at all, but for others if u are gaining weight and dont want to then u need to change something like your diet or exercise till u can rely on the band a little more . Only a few people are lucky enough to eat everyday food including junk food in smaller portions and still lose weight, but for the most of us those junk and processed foods need to be eliminated from our food intake in order to lose weight .

What Is Your Experience With Taking Pills?
Cazzy replied to OldMomOf3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure u should be taking even small pills being so early in the healing process .. maybe ask your doctor what they say, i would say its a medical opinion that needed here -
How Long Does Restriction Usually Last?
Cazzy replied to bandedgorJESS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fills lasted around 2 months but that was because they normally only kicked in 2 or 3 weeks afterwards .. everyone is different ofc so u need to just get used to the way u are and your body and band ! -
I agree with highland i took me at least 4 fills to feel any restriction but i also made sure i didnt put on weight by journalling what i eat and how many calories i burned exercising .. create a deficit and u wont gain weight, if its harder to curb your eating then up your exercise if its hard to do that then curb your eating maybe ask for a quicker appointment .. One thing is my fills dont kick in for 2 to 3 weeks so be patient too it may come and sneak up on you
