    2007 Bander Starting Over

Am glad to hear things are moving for you. The thing is that nothing happens when u do nothing, there is no harm in trying for things and seeing what can be done, am really pleased u stand a chace of getting this sorted, if u need any other support just let us know
  3. Most people hit a plateau sometime on this journey. What u have to do is change things up a little , as lose weight u do actually need a few less calories and i know i had to exercise even harder, sometimes u dont have to chanage anything and can just ride it out, but when u start getting nearer goal its often the case we have to work even harder to get there. Good luck and stay at it , you arent far off from being where u want to be
  4. Great work and well done .. i know how hard u have worked for that so pat yourself on the back and keep up the hard work, its all so worth it in the end

    EATING AFTER BEING BANDED

I was type 2 diabetes and was on the full dose of metformin, as my weight decreased so did my need for metformin, however there is research , not sure where from but if u stop metformin too early it can lead to some weight gain, metformin does support your liver functions and help with some weight loss so dont be too hasty to stop it completely unless your sugar levels deem it. My suagr is normalised now completely but iam still taking 1 metformin of a night and in a few months i shall stop that one too, i could have stopped over a year ago but chose not to and have been happy with my weight loss and my doctors support. U can overload on protein as a diabetic and i would stick to whatever it is recommended u have it is normally around 45 to 60 grm per day spread over the day. Your body has difficulty metabolising more than around 25 to 30 grms of protein per session and the best time to get your protein working for you is after at least 45 mins work out within an hour. Too much protein will metaboilise into glucogen and then get stored as fat. I still eat low carb/low sugar /low fat even tho i am on maintenance now and feel fine. Always discuss with your doctor reducing medication and the amount of nutrients they say you should have .. good luck to u all to get rid of nasty diabetes but i hope u are all on your way to kicking out your lives forever

Please Help...to Unfill Again Or Not

Totally agree u shouldnt be living with a band that is too tight. U may only need a tiny unfill, i know when i was too tight 0.25 removed was the magic number and i couldnt keep fluids down then either. I lost 10 lbs in a week from being too tight, the relief was instant when i had some removed. Please dont delay get that unfill asap !
  12. I had a full body lift, with 360 degree abdominoplasty and brachioplasty 7 weeks ago now, it went easier than i thought it would, was uncomfortable but not really painful, i had lost a lot of weight, was 58 yrs old so had a mass of saggy skin and muscles. now all i have are red thin lines where the scars are and they will eventually fade .. i saw on tv a programme regarding this laser lipo, and yes it is a great idea for very small targetted areas of fat, but the amount of fat that can be withdrawn is evidently quite small, and u have the added problem that any lipo can create loose skin so what u gain in lipo u lose in loose skin. I saw the laser lipo done on a tummy that most people would see as a normal stomach so hard to judge how an ex overweight tummy would fare using this method. Theres quite a few of us now who ended up having to have surgery to remove skin not so many that had lipo tho
  13. Might not have been such a great idea moving to soft food 10 days post op, if it was earlier than u should have, what were your doctors guidelines ? this time is for healing so the stomach needs to have a more liquid sort of diet to stop it trying to digest food. Sounds like u are doing well weight wise, keep moving and eating right and the gas does eventually go, but take it slowly and things should improve with time
  14. I was told anything u can mash with a fork basically i wasnt a fan or pureed anything so chose food that was already soft, white fish, mashed green veg, caulifower mashed .. tasted more like normal food then .. if u do have blend then dont lump it all together blend it each individual bit , tastes better then. Cooked frozen peas are nice in a puree form

    Pregnant & Protein?

That sounds not enough Protein, but i suggest u speak to your ob/gyn or nutritionist about this, u do have to be careful regarding nutrition being banded and expecting, i am not sure if they would recommmend protein suppliments when u are pregnant. An average person should be eating around 45 to 60 grms per day according to my government recommendations.
  18. I think a few people on this forum have their band almost full, what u have to look at is why sometimes you sound like u are in the green zone and why sometimes u arent, i think any more fill may push those times when u are in the right place to you being overfilled just so u can improve those times when u think u arent in the zone. Have u looked at other reasons why u may not feel satisfied. Might be head hunger, might be different density of protein, might be chewing differently, or different levels of hydration there are many reasons maybe try and keep to the same menu for a few days and keep your routine similar and see what happens. It may well be u need a tad more more fill, but check out other causes first as u dont want to be filled then need another unfill ... good luck !
  19. If its the ginger u are after then open a ginger ale and leave it till the bubbles have gone, putting more gas in your system seems not such a great idea, a heat pad and hot drinks, plenty of water and walking did the job for me ..

    Dazed And Confused

It really would be hard to answer this as post surgery is under your own doctors guidelines, i am sure they will inform u more when u have the surgery, most people have to go on liquids for an average period of 2 to 4 weeks after surgery, followed by the same time on mushies, then back to normal food, most are given clearance to start walking post op as soon as u can due to avoiding blood clots DVT etc and to get rid of gas pain that u may feel, this is due to gas they pump into you to expand your stomach while they fit the band. The time for healing is the post op around 6 weeks this time u use for getting used to having a band and learning to chew non stop, eating protein first when u are on normal food and drinking your water .. keeping hydrated throughout this process is essential. Most nutritionists have their own take on what u should and shouldnt be eating, avoiding high calorie high carb foods seems pretty universal, and keeping processed foods to an absolute minimum are all really common sense stuff. You may not even feel you have a band for some months after surgery untill the fills u will be getting start to kick in and give u some restriction, till then u will have to rely on your own willpower. Are u required to do a pre-surgery diet some people are some arent. All your questions i would definitely write down and make sure u get them answered before u leave hospitaal Wishing u a speedy recovery and good luck !

    2007 Bander Starting Over

I think seeing a dietician here in the UK would be a good start for you , u can be referred by your GP so no costs involved there and the people who go to belgium get filled by a guy who does fills but they also have a nurse anyone can go to to get fills too at a very reasonable cost. I think u may have to find the money from somewhere to get your band checked and a fill. Contact somehwere like nuffield hospital, although they are private they are a charitable non profit organisation so their costs for a fill i am sure would be lower. If this is totally out of the question plead with your GP to write u a letter to an NHS hospital bariatric centre for fills as your circumstances have changed since u went private and can no longer afford it, given u saved the NHS money by having paid for it to be put in u might stand a chance. Otherwise your choices are a little limited. If your GP wont help the start firing off letters of complaint to the Primary Health Care comitte or something like that asking them what do u do now .. etc etc .. the thread of where they mention about this fill nurse is here .. these are all uk members of this forum but thread is very long , u will need to work backwards on each page to find that info on the fill nurse or post in that thread asking http://www.lapbandta...e-bruyne-chris/ good luck with it .. Never had to take a Protein shake so no idea where to get them, maybe try boots the chemist !
  22. How about a low carb / low calorie wrap with smoked salmon and 0 fat cream cheese. Nice protein hit and will fill u up for a while as its solid and not liquid protein ..

    Weight Watchers????

Good luck to you WW works for many people, just watch the sodium and carb intake on the ready meals, and maybe try cooking some of them yourself .. i have had the frozen fish pie when i have run out of time to prep anything but a home made one tastes loads better and has more nutrients in it, get to make a batch and freeze them .. preparation is key when the boundaries on eating arent rigid, i know i have to prepare all my weeks menu at the weekend, so i dont have to think , its there and u dont make as many bad choices then ..if it works for u .. then just do it
