New insurance after lap band surgery ???

This is my concern as well. No one seems to have a concrete answer. -
Obtaining Health Insurance After the Band
aliciab posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Has anyone had any success obtaining an individual medical insurance policy after success with gastric banding or for that matter gastric bipass.? Specifically when you had medical problems prior to the surgery that were resolved with the surgery. For example diabetes or high blood pressure. -
You know what, I really don't mind our shoot out problems. What I can't stand is our lack of ability to score when we're on the power play. It's disgusting. Every time we go on the power play everybody gets all excited and I'm like "who cares?". Nothing good ever comes of it, we score more when the other team is at full strength.

I understand your situation. I have the same problem. Up until recently I worked out frequently but when I would eat it would take a tremendous amount of food to make me feel full. I will be having my surgery on 11/10 and I am very excited. I'm impressed that a big man like yourself is playing hockey. 372 pounds skating around the ice is no joke. Good luck on your surgery . If you're a Ducks fan, sorry about the shoot out last night. GO BLACKHAWKS!

I am self pay and all in all I will pay about $14,000 including pre-op testing. $14,000 is the price of a used car. Are you telling me that you feel like your life and health are not worth the price of a used car?
-
Has anyone had an abnormal EKG in their pre-op testing and had to be cleared by a cardiologist? My doctor doesn't seem to be worried but my EKG resulted in a "left branch bundle block" .

For the record, an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test were both performed and there's nothing wrong with my heart.
-
I already have an appointment.

Can I ask you, how were they able to tell on the angioplasty that you weren't blocked. I've obviously never had one doen so I'm not sure what they do.

I would just try and focus on other good foods that you know are okay. I don't think you need an intervention but just maybe toss those sweets in the trash.
-
I would post this in the forums, You'll probably get a much bigger response.

I vote the Avenue as well.

I feel a little jealous at all of the bandsters who have had insurance pay for their band. Weight Loss surgery was a direct exclusion on my plan per the request of my employer. It pisses me off that they will pay to treat my diabetes, arthritis etc which is a direct result of my weight but they won't cover the surgery. The insurance world is sooooo screwed up. But I've determined that the rest of my life is worth far more than the price of a used car so I will be paying for it and deducting it on my taxes. I have know for a while that I would not be able to have the surgery until September simply because I would not have the money in hand to do it, but I swear these two months seem like two years. I have most of my pre-op labs on 8/26/11. I'm lucky in the respect that my PCP is fantastic. She is able to do everything from the blood tests, pre-surgery clearance, EKG AND Psych eval in office. I love her! The only thing she can't do is the esophagram and I'll have that done at a local hospital. She has been one of my biggest supporters with regards to getting banded. I feel like my world is on hold. Like I'm in limbo. Suspended in mid-air. Like a quarterback who is forever waiting for the snap. Like a DVD player on pause. Lets just be real honest, I'm not a person with a whole lotta patience anyway.

It kind of P.O.'s me that he didn't tell you that he was going to put saline in your band. He's just your doctor, no more, no less. He doesn't have the right to hide things from you. I'm glad you are feeling better . -
I concur.

What is your BMI?

Big day for my wife
aliciab replied to Scott 72511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! I would never wish for my partner to NEED the band, but how awesome would it be to know exactly how the other person is feeling and know how much you will be able support each other . -
Day 4 on my journey - This gas is a pain in my a**!
aliciab commented on genesishanna's blog entry in genesishanna's Blog
If your body is just rejecting the food because you are swollen probably not. However if you are actually nauseas then yes your doctor can prescribe medicine for that. -
I like that you have a plan. Writing things down and execution of what you've written down makes you feel like a million bucks.

lol! You're doing great! Last year I got sick and it was soooo bad when I threw up it was like a freight train coming out of my mouth, sound and all! It was like I was outside of my body hearing it. It was just na- na na - nasty! -
I agree. Doubt is normal. If you had been successful at keeping the weight off you wouldn't even be on this forum. Also, people make results look however they want them to look. You are responsible for your own well being.

pre surgery/irregular heartbeat
aliciab replied to val144's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a pre-op test my doctor requests an EKG. I would speak to your surgeon and advise him of your concerns. Have him request the EKG to make sure everything is okay. My PCP can do EKG's right in her office. It should take no time at all and you can find out if you are worrying over nothing. -
Help with terraible skin rashes
aliciab replied to kovi2eliana1's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
And yes, it is yeast. Also in the past I've used deodorant around my belly button (not when there is broken skin!), no I am not kidding. Also neosporin at times which aslo works but is slimy - er. Especially after I had my appendics removed. They had to reconstruct my belly button and neosporin daily until the skin healed was the only thing that worked. After the neosporin worked I used deodorant on it for a couple of weeks to stop the sweating and it's been all good since. May not work for everyone but it worked for me.
