  1. I'm getting sleeved on the 19th. Thinking past the post op liquid diet to the puree diet. Any recommendations on pureed proteins?

Thanks all. Sounds like good ideas.

    Hair Loss After Vsg

I'm not looking forward to more hair loss. Being diabetic, I've already lost a lot of hair. I'll probably end up bald!

    December sleevers!

Start my pre-op diet tomorrow. It's pretty generous, but I'm still not too confident about it. Wish me luck.
  5. After a nightmare of stalled paperwork, surgical nurses telling me there is no room on the dr's surgical schedule - I have a date - December 19th and I found out I was approved by insurance today! I still have mixed feelings about why I haven't been able to do this on my own without surgical intervention. But - to heck with it. I'm doing this to get healthy! And my pre-op diet is very generous. I have a protein shake from breakfast and lunch. A 100 calorie snack between breakfast and lunch and again between lunch and dinner and real food for dinner. I cannot complain.
  6. I had a very similar situation. Also BCBS-IL. Anyway, the bariatric clinic held up the paperwork for almost a month. When I called the surgeon's office she told me that there was no way I would have the surgery this year, because he was all booked. Well I faxed a letter to the surgeon and to the bariatric clinic, explaining why this surgery is a physical necessity for me, why I cannot have it done next year (very similar to your case) affordability, job restrictions. The next day I got a call that he can do my surgery Dec. 19.! Amazing. Just waiting now for BCBS approval. Keep after your doc - it can't hurt

    December sleevers!

My surgery date is December 19th, if approved by insurance. The bariatric clinic held my paperwork for almost a month! My surgeon is Dr. Tariq, Central DuPage Hospital Bariatric Clinic - Winfield, Il

    Supervised Diet

I'm really having an issue trying to follow any kind of diet. I want the surgery and I want to change my eating habits, but I guess if I had been able to change my eating habits I wouldn't be here right now. I did start working out regularly at the health club. I have to go for my weigh in this morning. I know I will be up. I've only lost a couple of pounds anyway. I'm hoping that this won't impact my chance to be approved. Anyone else struggling trying to lose weight prior to approval?

    Supervised Diet

Wow. I didn't know the insurance company could require you to lose a certain amount of weight. Can I ask who your health insurance is through?

    New to forumn

Vicki - yes the complications scare me. I don't want to be gagging and vomiting. I do that with Byetta. I can't go anywhere once I've taken that.

    New to forumn

I'm 51 years old and have been overweight most of my life. It really got out of control when I started on insulin for diabetes and arimidex post Brest cancer. Since then I've had had numerous surgeries and injuries. Hoping the lap band will help me jump start my way back to health. Have to admit some of the post surgical comments are scaring me.
  12. Your insurance is not likely to approve with a Bmi of 34 unless you have account-morbid condition like diabetes, heart issue, sleep apnea. Check with your insurance company about their requirements

    Sleep study and endoscopy

I was amazed that I actually slept during my sleep study which I had done about a year ago. Turns out I have severe sleep apnea. I stool resist wearing my c pap to bed many nights but I feel so much better when I do

    Pain After Lap Band Surgery

Move as often and as much as you can. Stock up on gas-Ed and stool softener. Drink plenty of water. Use a small pillow to press against incisions when getting out of bed and coughing. I've had laproscopic and open abdominal surgery before. It really does get better quickly
