Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experience Anthem BCBS claim denial for the 2 day hospital stay after the R-N-Y? Surgery was paid but, they are denying the $60K “Room and Board” for the 2 day inpatient stay afterwards. Ugh... I am so sick right now! Any words of wisdom right now would be appreciated.

Hi All, I wanted to thank you again for the responses and to provide an update that insurance did accept and pay the hospital stay. Feeling so blessed. -
Anthem denied claim after surgery completed

Update: I spoke with the hospital this morning and they resubmitted the claim yesterday as they did have a pre-authorization approval from the insurance for the inpatient stay. So, now it is just sit and wait. Thank you for your replies and as suggested I am going to try not to stress -

Thank you for the great feedback. I will have a busy day tomorrow making phone calls. -
RNY was on 11/6. So far so good. Slower progress than wha I hoped at 21 pounds down. But, I try to remember that it takes a 3500 calories deficit to loose a pound. That is about 18K calories in a week. I’ll take it. Hope everyone else in the Nov 3rd week is doing well also.

Lap band revision Hi all I was just curious if anyone had chosen a lap band revision and if they had gone through and did a different surgery are they happier that they did and when did they have to go to the same requirements for insurance that they did the first time around like psychiatric exam and the six-month diet the second time?

Hi... I have entertained the thought of going to the sleeve but my long term concern is around stretching. Has anyone experienced that?

I am feeling the joint pain today and was one of the things I wanted to ward off myself. I need to get moving and am anxious about what I find out next week.

Thank you both! I broke down and have an appointment next week to discuss a revision. I have had mine for 8 yrs and it hasn’t been a tool for the last 3 and started out with regaining 20 lb but the last year I packed on 30 more and don’t even know how. I didn’t think about two separate surgeries, glad you brought up the healing as I was hoping to knock it out in 1 only because I don’t like going under Anastasia. Can I ask why you both are going to the sleeve over the Bypass? I wish you luck and imagine this next week will be a lot of excitement. Do keep us posted. Wishing you the best of success.

Sounds like your too tight, or tighter than you have been used to. But, from reading other post it sounds like it is normal restriction. I think tolerance to that varies per individual.

I was banded July 2011 - I have had none of the complications others have suffered from.... like food being stuck, pains, etc. I have had only one fill.... but what I really suffer from is a swollen abdomen. No exaggeration - it looks like I swallowed a basketball. Sides are sunken but rounded out front. My husband laughed and said "I always wondered what you would look like pregnant". Ha - not so funny when I could see it growing before my very own eyes. I haven't ever in my life notice by stomach doing this before - unless it was because there was so much fat there before that it wasn't as noticeable. It isn't everyday, just some days but when it swells - it really swells. Anyone else suffer from this type swelling? I have tried to relate it to something I have eaten but... there is no obvious correlation between anything. It is starting to concern me because I don't have any restriction that others mention. I truthfully am probably not in my green zone either. (that is another subject - lack of motivation to go back to the doctor). Thoughts anyone?

Grider, You're right... I also have found in addition to Protein that certain carbs (like pretzels) will do it. It seems to stop right under the port just to make me miserable. Wanted to ask anyone too - - I had my 2nd fill in 11 months a few weeks ago. I have heard a lot of talk about slimming but never had experience it to imagine what everyone was talking about first hand. Now I know.... I think I have read somewhere (and haven't been able to find it again) that frequently vomiting is can have adverse effects on the band. So, do you ride out the terrible pain in your chest and cough the slim or - just go chunk it all up and be done with it?

I drunk a beer and the rule was no carbonation . I knew better but did it. What is the carbonation supposed to do? -

Thanks for the alternative ideas to beer. I don't drink very often but there are social occasions that I rbjoy one every now and then, I just made a poor choice the first go around. -

Thanks for the reply. I do feel the boalting and it has been a few hours, didn't get nauseated and may be because I slipped slowly over the course of a few hours, Calories I didn't blow but didn't meet the other nutritions that I did need without blowing the day. -

Well said Debora Ann - I had a half a cup of brown rice yesterday and it gave me problems - I knew it was on my docs watch list but tried it anyway (becAuse it was the best option at the time) it didn't hit well at all. My point is as you said ... Because we can doesn't mean we should. -
I too started the day after surgery which was two weeks early. The surgeron's assistant said that it wasn't uncommon for the stress of surgery to "induce" the TOM.

Soooo Bloated after Lap Band Surgery
DeeTee replied to deb8735's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I'm 6 days post op and have also struggled with bloating, I think the doc added a basketball and a lapband or at least my belly feels that way . They suggested the gas-x strips - hadn't seem to help yet. Didn't relate it to the milk but, I'll pay more attention tomorrow.
