Surgeon Said Gastic Bypass was my Best Option

Lissa, Thank you for the response (and all the others). I'm not considering the lap-band. I'm trying to decide between the VSG and the Duodenal Switch. And while I want to give seekinghealth the benefit of the doubt, something about that post just read as being very spammy. Maybe I'm paranoid though.

200+ pounds lost post surgery in less than a year is astonishing, even when starting at a high weight. What's your secret?!
-
Hello all, I needed an outlet for this, so that was the main reason of the post. BUT maybe someone can offer some advice, too, that would be great. Lately I've really been struggling with the type of WLS procedure I should get. Or if I should get one at all, although that's a minor part of the struggle. I'm 99% sure I want WLS, but I'm really struggling with which one to get. What's worse is that I'm kind of freaking out over what's going to happen after I decide on something and get the surgery. I'm worried that I'll always be wondering if I made the right decision. It's crazy, I'm freaking out over something that hasn't even happened yet. Ugh...the worst part is that I recognize this mental trap that I'm stuck in, but I'm having a hard time getting myself out of it. Has anyone experienced something similar? Feel free to message me if you have something you don't want to post on the forum. Thank you. You guys are wonderful. May you all be happy and healthy.

Last post in the "Pre Surgical" blog :)
lob1999 replied to Kimberlina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you will only lose half the weight you want to lose. Not everyone reaches their goal weight. I think it's healthy to acknowledge that's a possibility. I just wouldn't beat yourself up over that possibility. -
Pre-sleevers turned away at the last minute ???
lob1999 replied to happy1957's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you get a second opinion? I realize you want to move forward, but since this a major decision you should jump into something you're not completely comfortable with. -
What my therapist wrote on my psych eval for insurance

Has anyone been rejected because of a psych eval? Or heard of anyone? What would they ding you for? -
Not agreeing with the surgeon.
lob1999 replied to kygal1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with this and my reasoning for wanting the VSG (even though my BMI indicates I should look at DS). Eventually I think RNY will fall out of favor when more VSG long-term results are available. Then I think it will come down to DS or VSG for surgery options. -
Picking a doctor - level of VSG experience

This sounds very similar to my situation. I'm leaning toward sticking with the doctor. -
Picking a doctor - level of VSG experience
lob1999 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm trying to settle on a doctor and I found one that I like, but he only recently started offering VSG. He has done a ton of RNY surgeries, so he's not inexperienced when it comes to WLS. The place is a Center of Excellence and they have a very low complication rate, so there's a lot of things I like about the place. My initial impression is that the positives outweigh the negatives. What do you all think? To clarify, I'm only interested in the sleeve. -
BIG secret... good or bad?
lob1999 replied to indy sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is my plan (except the Mexico part). I don't have a surgery date, but I don't plan on telling anyone when I do. I'll have to get time off a work, but I should be able to say it's a vacation. -
Are there any sleevers out there that have gained a lot back?
lob1999 replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did she have RNY? There seems to be a slight weight re-gain associated with that. -
Just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea...
lob1999 replied to Pixie Jen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're lucky if it wasn't that bad the first night. I hated my mask the first night. HATED IT! I had no idea how I was going to deal with having to wear it every night. After a few days it became tolerable and now it doesn't bother me at all. -
Am I starving myself to death? Can I cope with being thin?
lob1999 replied to JackieOMonroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I believe everyone should be comfortable with who they are. Fat, skinny, white, brown, tall, short - whatever. But being overweight is unhealthy and I think it's okay to acknowledge that. It doesn't mean you're a bad person and it doesn't mean you should think less of yourself or others that are fat. It just is. -
That's awesome. Looks like you're still losing pretty fast. You probably won't plateau for a while. I'm another guy that needs to lose 200+, so this is encouraging.
