    Had our first Dr's visit.

On Aug 29th I went for my first consult and got the ball rolling, Hubby went on Sept 1st and started his also. We are both doing the Lean & Green meal plan because it seems like a better fit for us than the Medifast plan. Besides I am not a big fan of shakes. I go see the surgeon on Sept 30th and my first weigh in is Oct 21st. I need to lose 10% of my weight which totals 28 lbs. Hubby and I want to get our surgery's done at the begining of 2012 and we can't wait.

    Vitamins

Hello all, I went to my first consult yesterday and I am not on the pre surgery diet to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. I do have an questions about vitamins that my surgeon wants me to take after surgery. I need a to take a multivitamin with mineral and iron, Bitamin B complex with extre B-12 and a Calcium Citrate withBit D (500 mg). I don't want to spend an arm and a leg buying these so does anyone have any suggestions on where I can start?

    How I got here....

I have been in this forum for a couple of months and I am finally having my consult with my doctor on August 29th. To be honest I can not wait to get this started. All my life I have been a yoyo dieter and in the end the results are always the same, lose weight only to gain it back plus more. Growing up we were taught that you must clean your plate, so if you took too much you were made to eat it. Even though I am an adult now it is hard to break that habit. It seems my mother always had us on a diet growing up but she didn't know any better and would cut us back on our food intake or try one of the fads diets that were always prone to failure. I have tried exercise and lifestyle changes only to lose a few pounds and get frustrated, until I heard about the Lap Band. My husband is also very overweight and has sleep apnea, his doctors told him about a year ago that he should look in to the Lap but he put it off. Well we aren't getting any younger and to be honest I do not want to be my parents. In their 70's and on more medicines that I can count on one hand. I am almost 50 and I can feel the effect my weight is having on my feet and knees, I feel I am to young to feel this old... LOL... Well 6 years ago hubby and I quit smoking together and we really want to do this together. We are each others support but haven't told anyone that we are checking in to the Lap. I believe that he will have not problems being approved for the surgery because of his health problems but I am just over the 40 BMI and don't really have serious health problems. So I am hoping that the insurance approves me. We have BCBS of New York. So if anyone has an information about that insurance to offer it will be greatly appriecated. I am so looking forward to starting our new lives together.
  13. My hubby and I are going for our seminar tomorrow night at Ellis Hospital and I was wondering if anyone had the choice would you get the Lap Band done again? Looking for the pros and cons. Thanks!
  14. Hello all, last night Hubby and I attended a seminar at Ellis Hospital and was wondering if there are any more that has been to Ellis? I had to call the insurance today and we are covered for all of the Pre testing as long as it is in network then when it comes time to be approved for the surgery the doctor will have to submit his request to them. We both would like to get the Band and I did schedule my first appointment for August 29th. i can't wait. I was just wondering if there are any more soon to be bandsters out there that has went or are going to Ellis?
  15. Hubby and I went to the seminar at Ellis Hospital last night and we are both very impressed with it all. We have a ton of paperwork to fill out but can call the office today after 10 am to schedule our first appointment. I just need to call our insurance to see what is covered and if we need referals. We are shooting for the first of the year and we were all told we need to lose 10% of our weigth but they will help. I am very excited to get this started.

    Any Upstater's (central NY)?

I live in Hudson Falls, we are going to the seminar at Ellis tomorrow night and I can't wait to start our journey. When I say our I am talking about my DH. (dear hubby)
  17. My husband and I are going tomorrow night for the seminar. We both have our letters from our primary doctors. I am excited to learn more about the different procedures and am hoping that I qualify. My BMI is 42% but hubby has sleep apnea and high blood pressure so I am pretty sure he is a shoo in for the surgery.
  18. Hello I noticed that you have plantars fasciitis, I also have it and was wondering how yours is doing? I have exercises to do and just was fitted for new inserts.

  19. Just starting and afraid I will not qualify....

  20. Hello all, I know this subject has been done several times so please bear with me. I am from Northern New York and have made the decision to attend a seminar. We are going to Ellis Hospital in Schentady on August 4th for it. I have gotten my letter from my primary and am ata 42 BMI. We have Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield and I have already called them to see if the surgery is covered. They told me that after the doctor submitted the request then they will go through the process. I have a few questions. First is there anyone who has been to Ellis for the surgery? How do they determine at the seminar if you are a canidate for the surgery? Does anyone have the same insurance as I do and was it hard to be approved? Thank you for being patient and hope someone can help.
  21. I too am just starting my journey. I had a seminar on August 4th and to be honest a little nervous. My doctor gave me the letter of necessity and said if they have any questions to call. My BMI is 42 and Ihave arthritus inmy back and osteoarthritus in my knee. My feet are starting to hurt and I ccan not stand for too long because of my feet and knees hurt. I am a little afraid that one the doctors or my insurance will not approve me. I am from NY also and will be going to Ellis hospital. So I know what your going through. Char

    Ellis Hospital

Well just an update, my husband and I both have orientation on August 4th. They told me I am just above the BMI line or 40 and we shall see. I have the letter of necessity coming from our doctor and I called the insurance and they told me that the doctor has to submit the request. So now we are just waiting for August 4th. Is anyone else going on that day?
