  1. I understand. The waiting is a torture. I am waiting to. I have an appt. with my surgeon 9/7/11. It took 3 weeks to get that. My insurance already approved it but I have 6 months of jumping thru their hoops. I am just ready to get the ball rolling. Good luck.

  2. I am beginning to wonder if they moved September 7th to the end of December....lol. So ready to get started..

  3. Is that who you used? Did you have to wait for 6 months? I am so tired of this hurry up and wait. I did like him when I met him in class. He was really nice and informative.

I understand exactly how you feel. I went to the seminar class 3 weeks ago and finally called to find out when I could see the doctor for my consult. They said they were booked up until September 7th so I am again waiting. What is frustrating is I have already did all the leg work for the insurance (UHC), got my approval numbers, letters, letter from my primary physician, etc. I am way ahead of the game but waiting all the same. Even my primary doctor does not get the supervised diet stuff but is willing to go along with it if we have to. He said, I gave you a letter of refferal/recommendation (you also have to get), what else could they want... But I will do whatever they say do. I am looking at Feb. 2012 for my actual surgery because of all of the hoops you have to go thru. Oh yeah, I have already met my out of pocket for this year so it is very frustrating to be pushed to Feb. Hang in there, we will make it. Cindy
  6. Thank you for this post. It has taken 2 months to get an appointment with my doctor and go to the class and all. I get so impatient. This site and people like you have kept me going. I apprectiate your post.
  7. Wow! After 3 weeks I finally got my appointment with Dr. Whipple. I am so ready.

  8. Well I went to the class Dr. Whipple gives before your consult. Got lots of information. Really having to learn to work with this hurry up and wait process. Anyone else understand my frustration?

It took me 6 mouths to do everything cause I was very very nervous and i was taking my time and making my appts. I really like Dr. Whipple and his staff they r really really nice. So far so gud!!!! I think the hardest part of it all so far was being on that liquid diet for 4 weeks. But I knew it wasnt forever so I got through it. lol

  13. Thank you for this post. I am new to this site. I have just made the decision to have the surgery and I am trying to surround myself with people who can support my decision and help me with the questions that seem to come to me day and night. I go to the class that is mandatory on the 22 of this month and hope they set me up for my consultation soon. Thanks again for this post. It was very uplifting. Congratulations on making a great decision. I was banded last August 23 and it was the best thing I've done for myself. I've lost 65 lbs and want to loose more. I feel about 20 years younger and can do so many more things that I thought were lost to me. One of my very favorite things was going on an airplane and not having to ask the 115 lb. Air steward for a belt extension. It was really a wonderful feeling. You have a lot of great things to look forward to. The best prep I did pre surgery is to give myself my own cupboard in the kitchen. I have chosen not to tell many people about my surgery as I didn't everyone to ask a million questions and watch everything I ate. I wanted all of my weight loss "gear" ie.books, Vitamins etc to be in one place behind doors.I put any food that is just for me there to help me keep on target ( and so my 17 year old son didn't inadvertently eat it!) I was worried about remembering to do everything I was supposed to do and this has really helped to have it all in one place. Buy a really cute lunch box so that you can always have "safe" food with you. I also bought a really pretty journal to write in and keep track of Protein grams, what I eat, feel or anything else I want to put in. Treat yourself to nice things that wil be great to look at everyday. I decided to make this My Year and exercise ,loose weight and get healthy. It is knot easy to do this and it's difficult to not have food for comfort so you need to think of other things to fill the gap..do something fun every day even if it's a small thing. also follow all the directions that your doctor and staff give you and you will succeed. Get up and walk in the hospital as soon as you can and make yourself do it. You will feel much better faster and not have to worry about clotting. I didn't intend to go on and on...but it is a life changing event and I am still in progress and still have to work hard. Good luck and great success to you! You can do it.!
  14. Stan, I am new to this site. I am going to my class on the 22nd of this month to start my process. I just wanted you to know that your post was really helpful and made me feel much better about my decision. I wish you much success in the future. hey there! Well, I just got banded 11 days ago, so I can tell you my fresh experience... my doc had me on the two week liquid pre-op diet. I'm glad he did. he said my surgery went very well and he could tell I stuck to the diet by the size and color of my liver, and that's the purpose of that diet... shrink the liver as much as possible to make surgery easier. Also go high on Protein to aid in the healing process. I had surgery on Friday, and my doc requires an overnight stay so I went home Saturday AM. yea, I felt like I got punched in the gut (no duh) but other than that I was OK. back on the full liquid diet. Me personally, I made it a point to get up and walk for at least 10 minutes every hour, then 15 and 20 as I could. By Monday I could shuffle around for 20 minutes every hour. Did a lot of catnapping from Saturday to Wednesday. Felt much better Thursday, cut the lawn Friday, and was back to work Monday. So I was off a week. and just so you can get perspective, I'm 52 years old, 6'5" and weighed 380 going into surgery. hope that helps. any questions, please let me know. stan
