    What ya eating tonight?

I am on pureed foods. Can I have a boiled egg mashed up really well mixed with a little lowfat mayo? I think so but just wanted to make sure.

    Pizza!

Will we ever be able to eat pizza again? If not, why not? Is it because of the bread? I keep seeing the Pizza Hut commercial for the new pizza sliders. I'd be content having one or even half a regular cheese slider. sigh...I can dream, right? LOL I've seen the recipe for the zuchinni pizza... I am not too crazy for it. Any other suggestions? I had my surgery 1/25/13

    What ya eating tonight?

Aside from those who are on their liquid diets, I feel like I am eating so limited/restricted compared to others who are on on the pureed foods stage like me. For one I am scared to try new foods. I've gotten sick a couple of times already once from eating eggs and once from eating pureed (canned) split pea soup. My instruction packet says that by now I should be eating some soft foods but when I contacted my surgeon the other day she still wanted me on mushy/pureed foods. I'm glad I have an appointment With her next Friday. I'm scared to try new foods but at the same time I miss eating and I am left feeling hungry only on pureed foods. Today I had 4 ounces of 2% cottage cheese for breakfast, 2 ounces of chicken broth & one 8z. carton of Muscle Milk for lunch and I may have 4 Oz lentils or chick peas for dinner. Not enough protein!
  7. The pounds are coming off quickly and I'm excited about it but I am also feeling low energy. I tire easily. I go out for walks and some days I'm okay but most others I am tired after walking just a few blocks. It's a bit frustrating. I am trying my best to keep up With all my vitamins. My doctor said to walk and even start exercising a bit. With this energy level, I can't even think about exercising yet. Anyone else have low energy?

    What are refried beans?

Sorry for the dumb question. I really am not sure. Are these the precooked beans that come from the Goya brand for example? What about hummus? I've never tried it.

    Drinking

I know we have to wait a half hour before/after eating to drink any liquids. Can anyone remind me the reason for this? I just had literally a couple of sips of Fruit20 flavored water. Does this mean I have to wait to eat?

    Down 60 pounds! YEA

Congrats! I'm down 60 pounds too! It feels great doesn't it. Seeing the pounds coming off also keep me motivated. I can't wait to reach my goal weight. I haven't gone shopping for clothes yet but I am going to have to soon to keep my jeans from falling off, LOL. This is definitely a long and hard road but it is well worth it. Best of Luck! Mari

    Learning...

    Learning...

I started my pureed diet last Thursday and I've had my ups & downs with it. I've had to learn to pace myself when I eat or drink. I am trying to wait a minute between sips and bites. Even though I'm allowed up to a half cup of food, I still need to learn that full sensation that is not so close to getting sick. It's so weird, I was on my liquid diet for quite a long time (since November) due to all my complications, and I really wasn't hungry. I could have people eating around me and I didn't crave, I could handle. Just a day or two before I was switched to puree foods I started feeling hungry and craving foods. There are so many food commercials on TV! So now I crave all kinds of foods I used to eat and love (none good for me; pizza, hamburger, BLT, etc) and I feel hungry between meals sometimes. I'm allowed up to 4 meals and maybe a snack if I'm still hungry. This process of changing my eating habits is sure playing With my head. Sometimes I can't tell if it's actual hunger or just my mind and pallate craving.
  16. Hi Everyone, My title gives you a hint about what my journey with weight loss surgery has been like so far. It's true, initially my plan was to get the Lap Band surgery. I was not 100% comfortable with the idea of having a foreign object inside me. I also did not like the idea of adjustments having to be made with the band as well as the possible complications. Due to that and some other reasons I opted for the Gastric Sleeve Surgery. It seemed ideal to me because I knew I was obese and this would allow me to lose the most weight. It did not seem as complex as this Gastric Bypass surgery (at the time this is how I felt) and I believed I was making the best possible decision for me in my weight loss journey. Long story short, I went in for my Sleeve Gastrectomy on November 10, 2012. There were complications after this surgery and after several more smaller complications and surgeries or procedures to correct them here I am. On January 25, 2013 I had the Gastric Bypass or what is most similar to the Gastric Bypass. My surgeon told advised me that I could now receive the most support on these boards because from the Nutrition aspect especially, it was most similar to my case. I just want to make clear that the complications that happened to me are rare. As a good friend of mine said, you're the reason why they make you all sign all those papers before surgery. I am just glad to be alive today, recovering and losing the weight! I'd rather not get into all the details of all that went wrong. I want to focus on now...recovery. I'm here for the same reasons everyone else is...just to share in the celebration of the weight loss and to give and receive support in this journey. I was on the Gastric Sleeve Boards prior to my surgery and I really found it very helpful. I'm sure I will have a similar good experience here. Good Luck to all who are starting their journeys and Congrats to all who have completed or are in the middle of theirs. Feel free to drop me a line. All the Best, Mari
  17. The good thing about the LapBand is that it is a reversible procedure. Your doctor knows what's best for you. I was actually against the band and it was what my PCP actually first recommended. I researched and opted for Gastric Sleeve but had complications with it and ended up having th Gastric Bypass. I'm okay now. Although many people do well with the band, it is not for everyone and I have also heard of the many types of complications that can occur with it. It's normal to feel afraid as the surgery date approaches, but try not to focus on the negatives. Take it one day at a time. I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you will do fine.
  18. Nice to meet you Amy. It's unfortunate that we meet because of our circumstances but it's good to know we can relate to one another in this experience. I too, was in critical condition at one point and my surgeon wasn't sure if I would make it or not. Needless to say, it was a very scary experience to go through. We're blessed and lucky to be alive and now it's a matter of focusing on recovery. I have faith that we will recover fully slowly but surely. My Gastric Bypass surgery was on 1/25/13. Are you still on a liquid diet? How are you feeling? Thanks for reaching out and it would be great to keep in touch. All the best wishes for you. Mari

    Puree Recipes

I didn't know we could puree a little ham into the beans. Great idea! I have tried pureed (in blender) split pea soup, chick peas, and lentils. For me, the trick is to add some extra water and not make it too thick. This is to avoid obstruction because these grains thicken when they cool and I've also found it important to drink enough liquids and not lay down right after meals.

    flavored water

I drink Crystal Light too. My favorite flavors are the fruit punch and lemonade. I like Fruit20, lemonade vitamin water. I looked for the NutraSweet Kool Aid but couldn't find it. I was drinking Welch's grape juice but apparently it has too much sugar even though it says no sugar added on the label. I also tried Minute Maid 15 calories Minute Maid and when I have nothing to drink but water I add a packet or two of Sweet n Low to it. Is this a bad thing? Also, I've noticed Splenda is preferred over Sweet n Low. Is there a difference?
