Is the sleeve making me sweat?
JackieOMonroe replied to JackieOMonroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After a little Google-fu, I think it may have something to do with my hormones. I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor. I'm supposed to be on HRT anyway, so maybe it will help. -
I almost bought some protein bars at Costco today. They weren't the Pure Protein ones, even though they had those. It was a brand called Premier Nutrition that just has PROTEIN in huge letters on the front of the package. 30g of protein per bar. What kind do you use?

I drove to 3 different 7-11s a couple of weeks ago looking for a sugar-free Slurpee. The machine was broken at two of the stores, only the sugar-free tap mind you, and not ready to be poured at the 3rd. I took it as a sign that a Slurpee wasn't in the cards for me. I still haven't had one, but I don't want it anymore.

Yummmm. One of my favorite pre-surgery meals was whole wheat toast topped with avocado, sliced tomato, olive oil, salt and pepper. I'll have to grill the tomato now and ditch the bread! I didn't even think of doing that before.

I have this killer LBD. I've had it for a while, but I've only worn it out once. It's made of a thick stretchy fabric, and I love the way it hugs my hips and bottom and comes in at the waist. It's the ultimate hourglass shape. The only thing I don't like is the way it clings to my stomach. When I wore it out before, I put something on over the dress to cover my tummy, but that pretty much defeated the purpose of the dress. I decided that I would wear the dress again only after I'd lost a little weight and my stomach wasn't trying so hard to be the star of the show. Fast forward to just a few minutes ago. I went to my closet to try the dress on. I keep it on the hanger nearest the closet door, and when I walk in it's the first article of clothing that I see. It taunts me hanging there all smug, waiting for the body I wish I had. I took it off the hanger, stepped into the dress, tugged up the zipper, and looked at myself in the mirror. It still doesn't fit! All of this work and the stupid dress doesn't fit. It's too big. How's that for an NSV? My little black dress doesn't seem so little anymore!

TMI for some...but how do you smell?
JackieOMonroe replied to Texasmom65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for asking this question! I'm glad it's not just me. I can smell everything more than I used to and it seems like I smell funny all the time. Not just there, but everywhere. I shower daily, but I feel like I should start showering twice a day. I'm not used to this! -
I fainted because of VSG?
JackieOMonroe replied to Norman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've felt like this many times since surgery, but it was the worst in my earliest weeks. I believe that it's due to lack of calories, carbs, and not enough fluids. I chalk it up to the calories most of all because it's the same way that I used to feel in the early stages of a VLC liquid diet that I did a couple of years ago. I was getting 64+ oz of Fluid at the time, but I was only taking in 400 cals or less. I almost fainted a couple of times. When I get like that these days, I try to eat something Protein rich like tuna or eggs but I up the calories and protein with cheese. I imagine that you're only on full liquids right now, so I'd suggest that you make sure to find a good Protein powder and get your full amount of recommended protein. Don't worry about counting calories, you can't get enough in for them to matter anyway. I would also suggest drinking regular Gatorade because of the calorie and carb content. I felt much better when I switched from G2 to regular Gatorade for a week. Last, I'd suggest that you contact your NUT and explain the situation and ask for suggestions. I went to the hospital after I nearly passed out about 1.5 weeks after my sleeve surgery. They fed me apple juice and cranberry juice cocktail to get my energy up since I was on clears and couldn't eat. -
Husband made salmon burgers with adobo/spicy mustard aioli and chipotle smashed sweet potatoes for lunch. Of course I could barely eat any, but it was yummo!

My husband and I decided a long time ago that for our health and happiness, we would both undergo weight loss surgery. My husband was going to go through our insurance, and I would be self-pay because my BMI was too low for insurance to cover the cost. My husband embarked on a 6 month monitored and documented eating plan with our PCP to satisfy our insurance and I researched doctors and the type of surgery that I would want. In June, I had VSG surgery with Dr. Ortiz of OCC in Mexico. A couple of weeks later, my husband completed his 6 month supervised diet and was ready to get going with our insurance company. This is where the trouble started. I've been on a leave of absence from work for 7 months due to depression and anxiety. This resulted in us being dropped from my insurance (Healthnet) on July 15th. We weren't too worried. We switched to his insurance through his place of work (BCBS). We contacted BCBS and found that he met all of the requirements and that the surgery could be covered. Except for one thing. My husband's place of work requires that he be an employee of the company for 5 years and carry the insurance with them for 5 years in order to have the surgery. We were upset, but we still figured we could make it happen. I was scheduled to go back to work on the 30th of this month, so I would attempt to re-enroll with Healthnet so that we could have our original insurance pay for the surgery. If I couldn't re-enroll, we would self-pay the same as we had done for me. Not ideal, but better than nothing. Today, 3 days before I was due to return to work, I received a letter informing me that during my leave of absence my position had been eliminated and I would not be able to return to my job. This changes everything. Not only can we not attempt to use Healthnet, but we can't afford to self-pay if I'm not going to be working. My husband is so upset and I'm completely heart-broken. I don't know what to do for him. I feel so guilty about being the one who managed to have surgery. I feel badly for losing weight, I feel terrible for complaining about my limitations due to the surgery, I feel awful about everything really. We'll work things out as far as managing our basic finances, so I'm not concerned about that. In fact, I'm relieved to not have to go back to that job. It's the reason that I had to go on leave in the first place and it caused me physical illness and pain on top of my mental anguish. I just wish that I could do something for my husband. He is the absolute best person that I know and he's done everything he needed to do in order to have this surgery. I'm sick about the fact that things aren't working out for him. Things can only get better from here, right?

Deciding on a Goal Weight?
JackieOMonroe replied to nowatgoal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've set my goal weight the same way that you have. My current tentative goal is 150 because I think it would be easily maintained and it's about what the doctors suggested for me. My next goal is 140-145 because the last time that I felt good about my body I weighed only about that and I would still be in a healthy BMI range. My ultimate potential goal is 135 since that's the weight that I was when I last felt like my body was amazing. I was a lot younger at the time though, and I was working out twice a day. I don't think I would be able to maintain that weight, and at 5'8.5" I think I would actually look a little too thin at that weight. We'll see how I feel when I get to 150. -

Longterm Weight Loss Stories???

Here's the link to the download site for the Chrome plug-in. It doesn't come with your browser. You have to download it. It's easy peasy. http://adblockplus.org/en/chrome -
It's normal. I'm on regular food and I'm still not back to a normal poo schedule. Just make sure that you're using a Fiber supplement like a couple of scoops of Benefiber in the things that you drink (it really helps), and make sure you get as close to 64 oz of fluids (or more!) as you can.
