  1. I'm here! I'm sitting in my hospital room waiting for my surgery and I'm not feeling nervous at all. Just met two other ladies who had sleeve surgery here on Friday and they feel great. I'm optimistic.

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

Yay! Another sleeve buddy! I'm nervous too, but I'm hanging in there. Good luck! See you on the other side.

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

Thank you! I have pre-op testing tomorrow at 9:30, but I don't know when my surgery is. I believe my surgeon has 5 surgeries scheduled for tomorrow. I'm not sure which order we go in. Congrats on hanging in there during the pre-op diet. I allowed myself to say goodbye to a few of my favorite carb-filled foods on Saturday, but other than that I followed the diet plan. Not so easy all the time. haha

    Will I look OLD?

I hate to say it, but this is one of my biggest fears. I worry so much that my nasolabial folds will deepen and i'll have wrinkles that stand out more. I'll be 31 on Wednesday and I haven't even gotten used to being 30 yet! I really enjoy having a youthful face and it freaks me out to think that people will stop carding me. I just keep telling myself that I'd rather be thinner than look younger, but truthfully I want both. Oh well, I guess that's the way it goes!

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

I'm getting sleeved on Tuesday too. I'm freaking out so much that I'm running through my supply of Xanax. So far I've lost 7 lbs on my pre-op diet and my BMI is between 33 and 34. Would you mind if I checked in with you time to time to compare progress? I could use a sleeve buddy.

I've only had fruit punch and berry/pomegranate. Fruit punch is the only one I like so far.

  9. Three more days until I'm sleeved. I'm trying not to go into hysterics with fear.

    Cleaning Out the Closet

LOL! I just posted a status update about this very thing. Should have looked to the left and posted here instead!

i feel stupid! what is NSV?

I really think someone should put together a glossary. I'd be happy to do it, but I'm too new to know enough of the acronyms and what they mean.

    Getting Sleeved Tomorrow-In TJ Baby!!

You think it's hard vacationing in San Diego on a liquid diet? Try living here! I've lived here since I was in high school. I know every single great place to eat and I can't go to any of them. I just keep telling myself that it's worth it. haha

i feel stupid! what is NSV?

I didn't know that one either. Also, what's NUT? Every single time I see it in a post, I think of a crazy person and it makes me giggle. Is it a nutritionist or something?
  15. Yesterday, I was cleaning and organizing my room (kinda) and I found some clothes that I bought online a while back. They were too small, but I forgot to return them. That reminded me of one of the best parts of losing weight. CLOSET SHOPPING! Old clothes become new clothes again!

  16. Yes! I have so much trouble remembering to enjoy the present.
  17. This reminds me of my weight loss on Optifast and HMR. When I did those VLC diets, my weight loss looked approximately like this: Week 1: - 10 lbs Week 2: - 2 lbs Week 3: - 1 lbs Week 4: - 5 lbs Week 5: - 2 lbs Week 6: - 2 lbs Week 7: - 0 lbs Week 8: - 4 lbs Week 9: - 1 lbs See what I'm getting at? My weight loss was all over the place even though I was doing everything right. I would change NOTHING. I ate only what I was supposed to eat, counted every calorie burned at the gym, kept a weekly food and exercise diary, etc. It made no sense to me! I felt like my body was betraying me! The bottom line was that my body was going to do what it felt like doing. All that I could do was help it out in every way I could. I would lose the weight, but I couldn't force it to happen on my schedule. Weight loss is not an exact science. Since we all know that weight loss is based mainly on calories in-calories out and can be approximated, I think that we all try to break this down into a mathematic formula that will tell us exactly where we should be, right down to the exact day we should be there. As you've discovered by now, weekly weight loss is predicted about as accurately as a meteorologist predicts the weather. Try to see each ounce lost as another sunny day. You may have cloudy days where zero pounds are lost and you may even have rainy days where you've gained a little. Just remember, keep your sights set on those sunny days. SUMMER. IS. COMING.
  18. I'm on the second week of my pre-op diet and I wanted Mexican food so badly last night that I cried about it. I cried and then I had a diet shake. That's how I know that I can do this. Strong like bull.

  19. Even if you don't get a surgery date tomorrow, you should still be so happy about what you've accomplished. You stopped smoking, you quit drinking soda, and you're losing weight. Good luck to you!
  20. I wish I hadn't told anyone that I was contemplating WLS and I really wish I'd kept my mouth shut about Mexico. I can't take anymore negative opinions that I didn't ask for!

    Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I'm already being treated for depression. I've been on medication since January and I've been on leave from work since then as well because my depression was too severe to allow me to function. I've finally gotten a grasp on my illness and I do not relish the thought of WLS causing me to get to that place again. I hope that through continued counseling and medication a relapse will be prevented. Maybe I should look into some food addicts meetings...
  22. I'm brand new to the boards and I don't know any of you at all, but I'm so proud of you that I could burst. I read all of your success stories and see how much you encourage one another and it makes my eyes tear up. You are such amazing people. Committing to surgery is a terrifying thing and I couldn't do it without you. So... thanks.

  23. I can't be sure, but I would imagine that it refers to the fact that you will still have head hunger, you will still want to turn to food for the same reasons you used to turn to food (emotional eating, etc.), you will still feel compelled to make unhealthy choices, you may still order or make more food than you need, your attitudes about food are not being altered by surgery on your stomach. The surgery is just one step in a long road of change. You'll see many people on the boards talk about bariatric surgery being a tool. They're correct. That's all it is. It will not solve your weight problems alone. You still have lots of work to do. Changing your brain is imperative.
