1 week out. Almost every sip hurts.

Thanks for the encouragement. I already feel so much better and have been able to slowly start on mushies. I overdid it today because I can't tell when I'm full yet, but now I know that I have to be diligent about measuring my food.
  2. How are you feeling after your surgery? Everything alright?

    Strange "Bruises?"

I have a two small and mysterious bruises. One on my right leg and one on my left arm. I have no idea where they came from. They don't even hurt, but I hope the bruises stop happening all the same.

    June Sleevers Master List

I'm sorry to hear it, but I have faith that you can do it. The work you put in now just means less work you have to do once you're sleeved. Good luck!

My scanner is being a jerk, so this is going to take a little longer than expected. Sorry guys.

1 week out. Almost every sip hurts.

I'll scan the diet info today. There are also two pages of nutritional info for protein drinks and the websites for them that I think you guys may find helpful.

1 week out. Almost every sip hurts.

I'm 11 days out and I still can't get in 64oz of liquids. I just do the best I can and sip, sip, sip. This is a great response. Thank you.
  16. you're my new inspiration! great job!
  17. They gave me plenty of anti-nausea meds, I was just extra resistant to them.
  18. I was sleeved on Tuesday and other than the first night, my experience has been pretty typical. I started drinkable yogurt and even a little tomato Soup today and things have been pretty good. My stomach spasms a bit when I sip on Water (strangely, the yogurt went down much more easily), so I just slow down or stop until things settle and resume sipping. I've been feeling pretty much like things would be normal from here on out, but then I had to pee. And then there was the blood. I thought that my urine seemed weird for the past couple of days, but it wasn't bloody so I dismissed it. As soon as I saw the blood, I called my doctor and informed him. He's having me come in for a urine test first thing in the morning. He says that it's probably an infection brought to the forefront by this sudden reduction in fluids. I really hope it's just a UTI. I've never had one before, but I'll take that over what I've read about kidney stones. Anyway, fingers crossed people!

1 week out. Almost every sip hurts.

Funny you should ask this, because that's exactly what I did! I started to feel dizzy and light-headed on Tuesday (right after making this post), so I went to Urgent Care to get help. They weren't able to help me and sent me to the ER. The ER kept me overnight and gave me 2 bags of IV fluids and tried to control my pain with morphine. I was then admitted to the hospital and kept there until this morning. While in the hospital, I was steadily hydrated via IV and given morphine, dilaudid, norco, and percocet to manage pain. I was given a CT scan, a broad spectrum antibiotic, placed on a bowel program, anti-nausea meds, antacids, and told to walk walk walk! I was fed a clear liquid diet and visited by the staff dietician in addition to my doctor and the nursing staff. The doctor and radiology declared my surgery a resounding success. They said that my incisions were perfect, I had no leaks and my organs all looked fine. The antibiotics were given as a precaution in case any bacteria from my stomach was floating around in my abdomen causing trouble and because of my UTI. I was released this morning and I'm doing much better. I have been ordered to do a clear liquid diet for another week, then 2 weeks of a full liquid diet, then 2 weeks of a soft diet, then back to regular foods. I can't tolerate much except popsicles, juice, and tea, but my pain is GREATLY reduced. I'm going to try broth today to see how that goes. I'm also going to discontinue my Vitamins until I'm eating more substantial foods because I think they were hard on my tummy. I'm much happier now that I've been since the surgery. Thanks to the steady flow of saline from my IV, I've gained 3 lbs since being admitted and I feel sooooo muuuuuch better. The Sharp staff dietician gave me a very detailed diet plan to follow during recovery. If anyone thinks they might like to see it, let me know and I'll scan the pages for you guys. Sorry if I scared anyone, but I'm glad to have put this episode out there. I hope it helps someone!
  20. Oh my gosh, StephieLynn I'm sorry! I've been so caught up in feeling better that I forgot to write you back! Everything went really well with Dr. Ortiz. My surgery was great, no leaks during the leak test, the nurses are attentive, and the staff is very personable. You will stay in the clinic 24-48 hours (depending on what you'd like to do) and then they will have a shuttle take you to the hotel. You are given the cell phone number of one of the doctors in a folder with other information. I used it twice to call my doctor, and on one occasion he called me at my hotel to followup with me. The Marriott is very nice, room service is fast and inexpensive, or you can get meals for free in the restaurant. I never wanted much of anything except Water and popsicles from a corner store by the clinic (and twice I had a teensy bit of the hotel tomato soup and apple juice). My first night was really tough. I threw up the entire first night and day, but after that my nausea went away. My husband and I met 5 other people who had the sleeve surgery and all were doing very well. I think I was actually the patient with the toughest recovery. We met a woman from Portland who was sleeved the same day I was. She had a really good time in Mexico. She was able to eat chicken broth and had very little trouble with gas pain. The only negative mark I would give the experience is all of the waiting that you do at the clinic while you're getting your drainage bandages changed each day. Overall, I would have to give OCC an emphatic thumbs up. It was just great.
  21. I got my labs back. Just a UTI. 6 days of antibiotics, lots of fluids, follow-up urinalysis to clear me. Thanks guys!
  22. Thanks for checking in. How are you doing?

  23. I've had them. They're... interesting. I would stick to using them only in asian-style dishes. They're just not good for anything else. The texture takes a bit of getting used to, but if that doesn't bother you then you'll probably dig them.
  24. Okay so my surgery is in 10 minutes! Thank goodness my husband is here. I'm suddenly freaking out!!!!
