Well, I'm back. I Started my original journey in July of 2011. I was banded December of 2011 and I am disappointed to report that it did not work for me.  I have seen a lot of success stories with that tool but, unfortunately, I am not one of them.  After I was banded, I dove right in. I was exercising in the gym 6 days a week at 4am, 4 days a week I was with a personal trainer from 5-6pm. I ate right, I worked out, I kept a positive attitude. I did lose weight but, the weight I lost was from my own efforts. After I was banded I almost immediately regretted it. I could not only eat less of the bad foods, I had to eat less of the good foods,  which was what I was eating primarily at that point. I would get stuck on carrots, broccoli, celery, cucumber, water! It was miserable for me. I went back and forth to my doctor for 2 years trying to get into the "Green Zone" to no avail. After a year of throwing up with almost every meal, I finally had to rid myself of the fluid in my band. There is still a little left in there but, I have put weight back on. Even through exercise and diet. I now have a beautiful daughter and have yet to lose all of my pregnancy weight. I am back up close to 300lbs and I cannot do this again. At the time I had most of my fluid removed my insurance wouldn't cover a revision.  I am not at a new company and am fully covered once again. I am looking to go from my lap band to a duodenal switch. I have found a surgeon and gotten the process started. I am looking for this to be, for me, what I hoped lap band would be.
Lap band works for a lot of people and I am happy for those people. Then there are those of us that need the malabsorbtion that the bypass and switch offer. I am opting for the switch because of it's higher rate of success and less likelihood of regain. I have no problem digging in and doing what's right. I just need the right tool to aid in that process.
I believe this is the one for me!
Stay tuned!
