Where Am I Losing All My Fat From?
longer-life replied to Flyingsaucer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have lost inches from pretty much every part of my body. I have been measuring every month, so I know exactly how many inches. I don't know about my ears, lol. My hands look thinner, I am wearing shoes in my closet that used to feel uncomfortable, my face is noticeably thinner, I can see more of my ...uhm female private part because my hanging belly is smaller etc etc. I can go on all day and I am not even half way to goal yet! Not to mention the emotional well being and energy! :-) -
6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
longer-life replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you call the local doctor you went to? Doctors will sometimes call in a prescription to a pharmacy for you, without you having to go for another visit. Perhaps the nausea suppositories so you can eat more. I have been thinking about you all day long and read your old posts. There you mentioned you ate 300 calories a day for weeks, or something like that. Also research H2blockers, Proton Pump inhibitors and antacids. They don't work the same. You probably want a medication on a different category than Omeprazole. Remember there is silent reflux. I hope you find the solution real soon! -
Okay... Tmi Question
longer-life replied to yecats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Benefiber works great for me. One packet is usually enough, but I don't wait too long to take it. You might need more packets. I think 3 a day is recommended. It has no flavor and mixes super well with any liquid. I used for the first time a few days after surgery because I read here how tough it is to be constipated fresh out of surgery and I wanted to avoid it. I still use it to keep me regular. Works like a charm. I learned about it on this website. Hope it works for you. -
Was Anyone Healthy But Just Fat?
longer-life replied to missmeow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should stick around for a while and read a lot on this website. You will see a huge range in starting weight, health, average monthly losses etc. I doubt you will see a 30 pound loss in a month if you start at 252. I started at 234 and I might lose less than 10 pounds this month (3rd month). In regards to my health, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few months before surgery (that is what helped me get approved by my insurance), but other than that I was as healthy as an obese person could be. However, I knew that was temporary. It was only a matter of time. Lastly, there are two more things that stood out. Research more about the band because according to many here that were banded before being sleeved, the band can be removed, but the damage left behind can be terrible. The other thing is, can you keep off 30-40 pounds forever? I couldn't. That would have put me under 200 pounds like I am now, but as hard as I tried, I was never able to keep it off. Research a lot, only you know if this is right for you. Best wishes! -

Going To The Movies On Full Fluids
longer-life replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the movies about 5 days after surgery. I took a 20 ounce Sobe or Powerade zero ( can't remember which one) in my purse. When my husband was buying his popcorn I inhaled deeply and enjoyed the smell. Lol. I was so happy I was feeling so well I didn't care. Right there I took out my drink and started sipping casually. I was ready to answer politely to any employee that could mention anything. I asked my husband to put the popcorn on the side opposite and I enjoyed the movie! You can tell your friends you just had dinner or something. They might not even ask. Keep a positive attitude and think about why you did the surgery so you enjoy the movie and the company of your friends. -

longer-life replied to seansmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
christin (a poster here) was self pay with my surgeon. Dr. Marema in St. Augustine Florida. He is FACS and a surgeon of excellence. Has done thousands of surgeries. Send christin a private message in case she doesn't see this. I don't know how much she paid. -

6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
longer-life replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In regards to reflux my surgeon started me with an H2Blocker (pepcid) and that wasn't enough. He then switched me to a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) and that wasn't enough so he added a prescription antacid to that. Now the PPI alone works great on most days. It takes quite a few days for it to work perfectly. I also learned here to take it as soon as I get up with a sip of liquid and not eat or drink anything else for 1/2 hour. I no longer have reflux issues. The nausea suppositories are not OTC. You might need them on a regular basis so you can eat & drink. Not eating enough calories causes nausea and you will continue feeling terrible. I was advised to drink regular gatorade to increase my calories and hydrate, ginger was mentioned too, but those were temporary measures until we found the problem. As soon as I stopped using my Cpap machine, the nausea went away. I dry heaved at the hospital and the first thing the bariatric nurse did was give my sister some rubbing alcohol so she put put it under my nose. I still do it if I overeat. Where did you have your surgery? Are you not getting answers from your surgeon? -

6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
longer-life replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also suppositories (for nausea) should calm it down so you can eat much more. Eating so little is most likely contributing to it and you are in a vicious cycle. Keep looking for answers. I had nausea & food aversions for a few weeks (my Cpap machine was filling me with air) and I had the nurse and my surgeon on speed dial until we figured it out! It took many phone calls, a barium swallow and 2 weeks but we found the problem. Best wishes! Ps. In the meantime I hope you are doing the usual home remedies. Drinking warm peppermint tea, smelling rubbing alcohol, adding some fresh ginger to your tea etc. -
Would You Do It Again? Why Or Why Not?
longer-life replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I would do it again. I have never had a moments regret. I am only beginning my journey (week 11 I think) and I have this overall sense of well being and happiness that is difficult to describe. It is like a huge boulder has been lifted off my shoulders. Only now am I realizing to what extent my obesity dictated where I would go on vacations, the car I drive, what clothes I used to wear and much more! It robbed me of my energy and it started to rob my health. I had enough of that! That is why I would go through this process over and over again if I had to. -

Padded Panties. Help!
longer-life replied to longer-life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hoping we still get someone that uses them, but I found a great link that explains the different kinds of products in the market. It's not at the very top. The title is "what type of padding is available and what works best". Hope it helps. -

Have fun and remember not all classes are the same. I have had some that are more into meditation/peacefulness/wellbeing and others were very tough for me, but my 65 year old non obese mom could do. Tell the yogi you are new and he/she will help you. I would start at the back of the class. I can't wait to go back!!!!!! Good for you for trying new things!!

I had this happen to me after my hysterectomy. Years later a new primary doctor told me it could have been due to low iron. He said that I might have lost a lot of blood during surgery. It went away after a while. Sorry can't remember how long, but it was weeks rather than days. It didn't happen with VSG. Talk to your surgeon and/or primary doctor. Don't suffer through it like I did. Please tell us what they say.

longer-life replied to longer-life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aww how cute is that? That made ME smile. :smile1: Thanks for the links! @Hadouni, not tacky at all. Fredericks of Hollywood was mentioned in the Oprah Magazine by some fashion designer. However there are tons of choices and I have no idea what to pick! Thanks for replying! -

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
longer-life replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nah, there is a LOT I don't know. I just made sure I read the complication threads & tons of other threads. I even emailed and talked to someone on the phone that was having a real hard time. I really made an effort to not block out the tough stuff. That's all. -
