What do I tell people?
longer-life replied to DreamLife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL sorry you got lost in the shuffle. The hiatal hernia sounds like a good one. Look it up. People here have recommended it before. -
What do I tell people?
longer-life replied to DreamLife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed! However my point was that on your first post you said " I have never lied" when telling people you lost weight by cutting carbs, exercising & increasing your Water. I happen to think that is a lie, so we will just agree to disagree. -
You are forgiven.
-
You ignored my post and I'm a tad hurt , but I still want to say that you should write posts like this so we hear all sides of the story. It has great value. Again congratulations!
-
First of all, congratulations! I haven't had surgery yet, so I am having difficulty understanding what you are doing differently than others. You eat protein first and you are not overeating. What is different? That you eat carbs after the protein?

Potential Side Effects list
longer-life replied to Mr-Smith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the list. The "no aspirin" & "no slow release" have been addressed. I wonder if there is a consensus among all surgeons when it comes to this. I had to have gallbladder surgery after losing 50 pounds very slowly on Weight Watchers, so I guess that one applies to all weight loss. Aren't all thin people always cold? (My old coworkers loved placing their freezing hands on my cheeks to show me how cold they were. ) I hope someone elaborate on the nutritional deficiencies and the Iron & calcium deficiencies. -
What is your favorite Crock Pot Recipe?
longer-life replied to Brandi Lewis's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Does the Jim Beam sauce sit well in your tummy? I haven't had surgery and perhaps I am thinking about RNY. -

Goal is so close I can almost feel it...

They are!!!! -
I also have Aetna and would have been in exactly your situation had I not been diagnosed with sleep apnea about a month ago. Did you provide weight proof of 2007 and proof of dieting in 2009 (like Weight Watchers or gym receipts)? I would hope this and a peer to peer from your surgeon would do the trick or else they are punishing you for trying to lose weight. Try posting a thread about this. I can't imagine you are the only one that has gone through this. Best wishes.

longer-life replied to coops's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is sad Coops. We come here to get all sides of the story. Please don't hold back from posting. I have learned a lot by reading your positive posts and the ones when you were trying to sound positive but the frustration came through. You are persistent and friendly. If that is not inspirational, I don't know what it. -
What do I tell people?

You have made my point. Thanks for your honesty. You are not fooling yourself into thinking you are not lying. It is simply the decision you made and that I can understand. -
worried about not being able to take certain meds long term
longer-life replied to indecidedgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't help you in regards to the medicine since I haven't had surgery yet, however you should seriously consider getting a different surgeon. Some posters here have changed at the last minute. An experienced and reputable surgeon is a must in my opinion. -
Please do not remain silent about your "Sleeve"

DoOver I disagree with you, but loved your post. It is great to be able to discuss this topic in a friendly, respectful manner. -
What do I tell people?
longer-life replied to DreamLife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that everyone should decide whether they want to tell or not. However since most of us can't maintain weight loss by cutting carbs, exercising and increasing water intake alone, people will eventually figure out they were not told the whole truth. I am not trying to convince anyone to tell or not or insult Autumn Lily. Each person should do whatever they want. My point here is to state that in my opinion people will know, will talk and will think they were lied to. -
When did you come to the point...
longer-life replied to slhobbs81's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is already a thread just like this one. It's a fun read. You might want to repost there. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/24180-what-made-you-do-it/page__pid__206123__st__40#entry206123 -
My roommate hid my scale
longer-life replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:lol3: I don't want to drive myself crazy, so I plan on asking my husband to hide it and only bring it out 1 day a week. Could you try it and let me know how it goes? -

longer-life replied to Papa Jack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
RebaC in my opinion you did the right thing by telling her about your surgery in the first place and offering help numerous times. The rest is on her as an adult. I just wish her irresponsibility doesn't stop you from helping others. -
Suffering from major Insomnia! Please Help!
longer-life replied to MsRobotRock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought my daughters melatonin at Walgreens, so probably all other regular pharmacies carry it as well. It comes in different milligrams. Google to see what dosage is best for an adult. 1mg works for my 9 year old with Adhd. Her pediatrician recommended it. -

Please do not remain silent about your "Sleeve"
longer-life replied to Papa Jack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will always be grateful to an old college friend for answering my question honestly when I asked about her weight loss. She could have easily made up a story, since she lives overseas and I only "see" her on Facebook. I have "only" told my closest friends and family members because I don't want to hear other peoples horror stories. After surgery I will tell the world. I hope I can help someone as my friend helped me. -
I am by no means an expert, since I haven't had surgery yet. I will share with you what I learned from Foxbins on this website, that might help you on the weekends. She eats on a schedule and everything is measured and weighed. If she is on the 1/4 cup a meal stage, that is what she will eat on every meal on every day. So she never "feels full, vomits, slimes, nothing". She simply eats what was scheduled & measured and that is it. No guessing, no listening to her stomach, no nothing. Therefore she never feels hungry nor sick. Typing this just made me realize that this is how I feed my dog and that is probably why he is the only Basset Hound in the world that is not fat. Foxbins, if I misunderstood you or I am putting words in your mouth/keyboard please forgive me and correct me.

Do They Think I'm an Idiot?
longer-life replied to Catracks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, am I the only one that doesn't see anything wrong with what Catracks mom said? Lots of moms tell their kids "be sure that this is what you want to do" when major events are about to happen. She also acknowledged that Catracks doesn't take things lightly. That's a compliment in my book.
