  1. You look great! Keep smiling.
  2. Today was my appointment to see the psychologist regarding VSG and I should have canceled. My morning was horrible (9 year old with Oppositional Defiant Disorder & ADHD) and I couldn't shake it off. I was still frazzled, frustrated, sad....you name it, by the time I got there. Sure enough, as soon as the subject came up about family, I freaking cried! Aaaaaah! I feel like such an idiot! I also couldn't focus on some stupid numbers he was reciting that I had to remember. (I have a bad memory as well). English is not my first language, even though I have very little accent, so I couldn't express myself as well I wanted to. I was a complete mess. Now I am hoping he saw the whole picture. I have a very good support system, my family supports the surgery, I am knowledgeable about VSG, I have friends, interests and a whole lot of other stuff he asked about. The secretary said he sends his reports to my surgeon the same day. I now fear going through this whole process and then being denied. Do surgeons call right away when reports are negative? I feel like sending an email to the insurance coordinator, but that will make me look worse. I am so sad about this whole thing. Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Fatty deposit on back of neck

That's the beauty of this website. EVERYTHING gets asked! :biggrin2:
  4. What's one more embarrassing topic? I am hoping it will go away together with most of the fat that has been hanging around my body for a lifetime. Will it?

My Sleeve Dilemma, or is it?

No royal smack from me. People researching VSG should get all sides of a story so they can make their own decision.

    Why would you say that?

My sister who is thin, has had liposuction and is not dumb, thought this about a coworker! It is pure ignorance. As a thin person, obesity and my struggles are not something she has to give a second thought. I guess she figured she walked out of surgery with a smaller waist, we should walk out being thin. lol

    Why would you say that?

Not telling her how much you have lost and why you are not disclosing the information, might also be a solution. Follow that by educating her or taking her to your doctor, like others have said, and she might become your ally. If her comments were out of jealousy and not ignorance, then prepare yourself mentally when the inevitable stalls and slower weight loss come your way. It would be terrible if you let her bring you down at that point. Congratulations on your attitude and awesome weight loss. When I grow up, I want to be like you.

    Pre-surgery diet started today!

I haven't had surgery yet but I am a volume eater so I feel for you. I would eat mini meals throughout the day(plan them on myfitnesspal.com), drink 70 ounces of water/Powerade zero/tea, take strolls to waste time & go to bed early. Please share what you have been doing & best wishes.
  9. No wrinkles! You look great. I see you still love pretty necklaces.

To Tell or Not to Tell

You will find lots of threads on this. We don't all agree and that is ok. Everyone should do what they feel comfortable doing. I haven't had surgery yet and I have told my family & close friends. I don't want to hear horror stories from acquaintances before surgery. After surgery I will tell anyone that asks. Why? An old college friend that lives overseas and therefore I only see on Facebook was honest when I asked her. She could have lied easily and I would have never known. Thanks to her I heard about VSG for the first time ever. I would like to do that for someone else.

My Sleeve Dilemma, or is it?

Consider having a sleep study. Like yours, my BMI was below 40 (and over 35) but I was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, so I now qualify. I snored for years and thought it was my allergies! In the meantime find out if your insurance requires proof of obesity. Mine does, but if your doesn't, you "only" have to gain 11 pounds, which could be done the fun way or the "weights in your bra" way. I only know this 'cause I read it here. Good luck!
  12. You have gotten great responses. What I have said to that (during my Weight Watchers failures) is "think of all the people you know and name 1 or 2 that have been overweight since childhood, lost over 75 pounds AND KEPT IT OFF FOR YEARS" They couldn't come up with 1.
  13. Thanks! You are sweet. :-)

  14. I passed! Phew! LOL Thanks to all of you, I stopped worrying. You were right. Thanks!!!!

What is the psych eval like?

In my case I filled out a form in the reception area with some easy questions in regards to family etc. Then we talked for about 15 minutes. He asked about my family, marriage, religiousness, details about the surgery & hobbies. After that I answered a 10 minute computerized true or false questionnaire that again asked about the same subjects. He was obviously trying to figure out if I had lied. So much so that one of the computerized questions was "Are you answering these questions truthfully?" Don't worry too much about it. I had had a rough morning with my daughter right before my appointment and I cried when he asked about my family life. I was VERY concerned that I was not going to "pass", but I did! Below is a link about that. The responses I got will help you feel more at ease. Best wishes! http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/24822-i-might-have-screwed-up-the-whole-thing/page__p__210075__hl__cried__fromsearch__1#entry210075

    Get Well Basket

These are some of the things I have read on this site. I wish I could credit the posters but I didn't copy their names. A heating pad, abdomen support belt. biotene mouth moisture spray & a bottle of aromatherapy oil. I would add a calming music CD. This is what the poster said in regards to the oil "You put a drop or two into your palms and rub them together vigorously. Now cup your hands around your nose and focus on your breathing. In a few minutes you will have a different sensory experience rather than eating."

    Eight Months Out

Your kindness comes through. Thanks so much for this. It is very inspiring. I hope some of the oldies chime in and help you out with your current struggle. You might want to consider posting a thread about that. You never know what great tidbits you can get. Again thanks and congratulations on your attitude and awesome weight loss!

    Now what?/

Great! Tell us how the appointment goes. Good luck!
  25. I have been lactose intolerant for years and I am guessing after surgery the symptoms would be the same. It varies from person to person. Colic, feeling bloated & diarrhea are among the fun ones.
