  1. I'm so sorry! If you read above that is exactly what I had to provide. Seems the insurance coordinator at your surgeons office is inexperienced and that is terrible. Aaaaaah! Have hope though. Hopefully it is all they need!

How do I talk to my doctor?

I totally agree with Thinoneday. Keep researching the surgery so you become & sound informed. I would say something like " Not sure if you remember but we have discussed my weight many times. I have done such and such to lose it but it keeps coming back and I am worried. I have researched blah blah surgery and I know it will help me be healthier and live longer. I would like a referral from you to such and such surgeon." Be prepared to answer questions such as why did you pick Sleeve Gastrectomy or comments such as "I think you just need to eat less and exercise". Change primary doctor if you have to. Good luck. Keep us updated! Don't give up, but research , research, research. This is permanent and you are very young! Consider going to a therapist that specializes in bariatric surgery to help you through this. Big hug.

    SURGERY ON 11-14-11 :-)

Hi there! I am getting sleeved 2 days after you! :cheers2: Most of my questions were answered at my 3 hour class. I wanted to know if the doctor was conservative or not when it comes to pain medications at the hospital. He is not and I was relieved. ( It was kinda late to ask that question 2 weeks before surgery. ). We will be given some scripts at our pre-op to be filled BEFORE surgery. If that is not the case for you, you might want to ask. I forgot to ask which medications we are getting. I have read here that Oral disintegrating Prevacid is good for gas, sublingual Zofran for nausea & I think Ragla for spasms. I must take my allergy meds the night before surgery or I will be sneezing & coughing after surgery , so I will ask about that. Most importantly I needed a contact number & person to call post-op with "simple" questions. Come and introduce yourself in the forum for November Sleevers. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/26418-banana-babes/page__hl__%2Bbanana+%2Bbabes__fromsearch__1 Best wishes!!!!!!

    Incision care and pain

I second this. You and/or insurance paid a lot of money for this surgery. You should be able to call and ask these important questions. Best wishes!

    Having Second Thoughts Now

There is no doubt a cautious doctor is usually a good doctor but I would have questioned the colonoscopy & the nuclear heart tests if you have no heart issues. Most of us do not have those tests done. I requested a sleep study because I had the symptoms and sure enough I have a severe case and it helped me qualify. Some don't have this done either. Unless you receive really good explanations, I'd be questioning this surgeons expertise & his communication skills. You are in the dark and that is crazy. You know you can switch and not have to start over right?

    Thinking of backing out

Wow right on Kemo & Krista! The only thing I will add is that I got to a point in my struggle against obesity where I am willing to take the risk. However it is not out of desperation. I gave Weight Watchers, slim fast, pills , gyms etc many many GOOD tries and I have researched extensively. Like you, I have heard the good, the bad & the ugly & I still think it will be a risk worth taking for ME. You need to decide if you are at that point or not. Best wishes!!!
  17. They don't all have the same reputation or facilities. Research, research & then research some more!
  18. Congratulations Wishes!!!!! You look great and I too love the dress. I love hearing from you. Drink water ! (wagging finger) :-)
  19. Why not call BCBS and ask what their requirements are? Aetna has them online. A rep. helped me find it on their website and for my particular plan. Your insurance coordinator should then confirm this info for you, so you don't have to be guessing. To answer your question though, I had my primary doctor copy her charts with my weight on it. Search on this site, I think people have sent in gym records and such. Not sure. Best wishes!
  20. Yep they goofed up. ARGH! It IS required by Aetna. It is on their website. I did the accelerated 3 month program too and had to provide 2009 & 10. Gosh I hope it goes smoothly now!!!

    Having Second Thoughts Now

You did all those tests without asking who requires them (insurance or surgeon) and why? I'm confused.

How Long Until Hunger Comes Back?

OMG I hope this happens to ME TOO!!!!!
  23. Great! Why wasn't this submitted from the beginning though? Aetna has this requirement posted on their website and my insurance coordinator made sure I had submitted everything to her before she sent in for approval. (Too late now for you, but perhaps others can learn from this).
