bellabbr- I am no expert of course, but think trying to put mashed potatoes in a tummy that was just cut 6 days out is WAY too soon in my opinion. If you want (and your surgeon approves) to go up a step, I would start with thicker soups, or continuing with homemade well seasoned yummy broths. Actually drinking strained french onion soup from Panera was the highlight of my days. You could try the watery Asian soups if you like those. I was able to puree no sugar added canned fruit at your stage as well. All that gives you variety. I ate 2 tablespoons of mashed potatoes on day 18 and it went down great. You will be able to eat real food SOON! So buckle down & pamper yourself with foods that allow your fragile tummy to heal. You can do this!

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Without 2 Week Pre-op Diet?
longer-life replied to shellbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It didn't make any difference to my healing process. I had a ton of food funerals, no pre-op diet and I am recovering beautifully. I was able to eat until 4pm the afternoon before! -

Help! No Weight Loss - Over 1 Year Out Gastric Sleeve Surgery
longer-life replied to Finally!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be heartbroken too. I hope she is also actively looking for answers and not just you though. Was her primary doctor out of ideas after the thyroid and blood panel come back. I wonder if a visit to an endocrinologist (or a phone call first) and a consultation with a bariatric surgeon that normally takes difficult cases would help. You might also want to read the studies Foxbins was referring to. Best of luck! -
Help! No Weight Loss - Over 1 Year Out Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Did she do a pre-op diet and lose weight? How about before that? Did she ever do Weight Watchers or any other program and lost weight? -
What an awesome addiction! Congratulations!

Friends & Family
longer-life replied to Jeanie Sleevy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I value friendship, family and honesty VERY much, but I wouldn't tolerate being drilled for an hour by anyone. That to me is the problem, you didn't place any boundaries. I had a friend panic when I told her but we talked it over and she respected my decision. I also respected her for loving me enough to worry. I have no regrets telling people. I hope you don't miss out on a lot of support because of her reaction. Having said that, do what feels right to you. -
Hi sweety93 (Katrina)! You are doing great! I had no pre-op diet either...THANK GOD! I was a volume eater. No sad face from me. :smile1: Welcome! How are you feeling?

What's Your Favorite Protein Drink?
longer-life replied to mullet head's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like GNC Pro Performance Vanilla Whey Isolate. 28 grams of Protein per scoop. All my shakes have to be whey ISOLATE as I am lactose intolerant. I make it with 8oz Lactaid milk (8 more protein grams), 1 Splenda and some vanilla extract. I am very happy with it. If not I could have taken it back. GNC accepts returns on open packages. The ready to drink OH Yeah bottles also taste good and are convenient when on the go. -

Dr Marema U.s. Bariatric
longer-life replied to Mynewlife2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Likasulema, try to find your doctor on the link below. If he is a surgeon of excellence you will be fine. http://www.surgicalreview.org/locate/ Also, you are not stuck. Some people here have changed at the last minute and don't have to start over. Some have even had their surgeries EARLIER than with the previous surgeon. -
I would go to a local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if you can crush the medicine AND to give you an over the counter recommendation that could help you if crushing does not work. That is a free consult! Don't suck it up. At the same time I would be emailing your Mexican surgeon. They might help too. OH..a third idea is to post a thread about this on the "Post Op' section. Someone might have an idea for you. No need to suffer every twelve hours. I love your good attitude. Best wishes!

Dr Marema U.s. Bariatric
longer-life replied to Mynewlife2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you for speaking up! After insurance approval and the class then you have to do the pre-op tests Dr. Marema needs to get you ready for surgery. I am somewhat "healthy", so I had blood work, a chest X-ray, EKG and get clearance from my pulmonary doctor because I use a CPAP. (I did this in a matter of 2 days!) Then they schedule a date for surgery and a date to see Dr. Marema for a pre-op visit. What insurance do you have? I have Aetna PPO You will probably be able to do everything in Orlando, except the surgery. I'm not completely sure though. I understand your anxiety. It's terrible to have to have the surgery before a certain date because that just adds to the normal anxiety. I hope it can all be completed and you have surgery, even if its on the 31st! :smile1: -
Hooray, I Was Not Stuck At 219
longer-life replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Holy Cow what a lesson this is for me! Since before surgery I have been trying to convince myself to be happy with an average loss of 10 pounds a month. I don't want to spend a year obsessing. Maintaining it off for years and years is what's important in my opinion. At least that's what I'm telling myself. lol I am VERY happy for you. I hope I can be like you when I grow up. "Believing in the universe" and "unsexy to the extreme" made me crack up. Thanks for the laugh. Go get 'em girl!!!! -
I Still Feel Hungry
longer-life replied to TheNewMe2011's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Even though I am starting to eat some real foods, there is no way I could meet my minimum daily requirements of protein and fluids. My surgeon told me continuing with the protein shakes is a must this early out. Hope this answers your question. -

I Still Feel Hungry
longer-life replied to TheNewMe2011's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I get hungry too but it is normal for some of us at this stage. I have read here that we will feel restriction once we start eating dense Protein like chicken and eggs. Make sure you are drinking all day long so you get as close as possible (or reach) your surgeons requirements for protein and fluids. This will take care of your hunger and nutrition. Some still get hungry after eating dense protein, but they say it takes very little food to satisfy that hunger and that is music to my ears. I'm not worried. I think we will be fine. :-) -
