I also had food funerals after being approved. I was a volume eater and had no desire to be hungry and tortured by dieting. I was selective though. I ate some junk foods but mostly went to nice restaurants. I gained 4 pounds and have no regrets whatsoever! We are all different. I knew I was going to fully commit and have no regrets, so I did it. I didn't have a pre-op diet either, thank GOD! Do what is best for you. Only you know yourself well.

$250 Class Before Gastric Sleeve Surgery
longer-life replied to Mel34's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I had to take a 3 hour class before surgery. I was also handed a thick booklet and asked to read it. It was very informative and worth it. Granted, most of those things we have learned here, but not every surgeon follows the same guidelines. In that class you will find out in detail what your surgeon wants you to do during the next year or so. I didn't have to pay $250 for the class per say, but I paid a $600 fee that included the class and other services. In regards to the tests, it depends on your health and the doctor. He should have given you an idea of what his "typical" tests are though. I found that out from my surgeon early on, because I have read here how some doctors go crazy ordering stuff and I didn't want to do that UNLESS of course they were really necessary. You can probably get that question answered during the class. Best wishes!!!!!!! -

Good for you for calling your insurance. That was my very first step. Many people don't and put all their trust on the insurance coordinator at the surgeons office. Also, did you find out what criteria they use to choose the Center of Distinctions? If they believe those places have higher standards, then you might want to consider them. My first criteria was that my surgeon had to be a Surgeon of Excellence. These Centers of Distinction might be Centers of Excellence. Best wishes! -

Travel At 5 Weeks?
longer-life replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A 4-5 star hotel might accommodate you and put in a tiny fridge for you or at a minimum they might let you use a fridge they have in an office somewhere. Speaking to a manager might be worth a try since you are staying for 2 full weeks and it's for medical reasons. Don't wait until you arrive though. Call as soon as your reservation is in their system. Best wishes! -
Can't Stomach Solids---anyone Else...ideas?
longer-life replied to dreamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 4 weeks in 2 days and I weigh 1/2 ounce dense protein (with something like mayo, ranch dressing etc so it goes down easier) and 1/2 ounce cooked veggie. I can't quite finish it yet. You might want to start with 1/4 ounce of each. Hopefully you are meeting your protein goals by still drinking your shakes. -

Confused About Foods That Contain Protein And Portions To Eat After 2 Weeks Post Op
longer-life replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Myfitnesspal is great, like Lissa said. I am only one week ahead of you and we are at the same eating stage. I also drink 2 Protein shakes a day prepared with 8 ounces of Lactaid skim milk for a total of 72 grams of protein because there is no way to get a lot of protein from foods at this point. (that must be the longest sentence ever!) In regards to eggs, I have eaten 3/4 of a boiled one with mayo (egg salad) and it was too much. I will try 1/2 next time. For all other Proteins like chicken, lactose free cheese etc, I weigh half an ounce and pair it with 1/2 ounce of cooked vegetable. I come close to finishing that. As the days go by, I am sure I will be able to add more. Lately I have been eating between 570 calories to 735. I say if you can eat a whole egg, go for it. Perhaps sometime soon you can drink 1-1/2 Protein shake, versus 2. By the way, I use full fat mayo, full fat cheeses & real Peanut Butter. I do use skim milk because I am used to it and I consume 16 ounces a day. I feel the amount we consume is so small, I might as well savor something that tastes yummy. I am not trying to change your mind about your choices though. We all know what works for us. Did I answer your questions? P.S. In regards to the Beans I am going to email my NUT to ask if it is ok to take an enzyme supplement to help me digest them. (Even though she prefers me to eat protein from animal sources.) -
