Too Much Acid In Esophagus At Night!
longer-life replied to ravenjeh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With the help of a gastroenterologist or other professional, keep trying to find the right combination for you. If not, it could lead into something very serious in the future. I am in that process myself right now. H2blockers did not work, so I am now trying a PPI in combination with an antacid. Waiting to see how I do with that. Good luck! -

Am I Really Ready For The Inevitable Lifestyle Change. Were U?
longer-life replied to Kareforme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wasn't looking forward to the first few weeks after surgery either. Many people said it was horrible while many others said it was fine. My first 3 weeks turned out to be just fine. Amazing actually, considering 85 percent of my stomach was removed. However it was surgery after all, so things did come up, but reading on this website for months prepared me for that. I knew I couldn't lose this weight on my own. I was ready! My fourth week was tougher. Go figure. My CPAP machine was filling me with gas so I couldn't eat. The low calories and mild dehydration gave me nausea. Luckily my surgeon and I realized what the problem was. It is now getting better. In another words, we are all different. Be positive and patient! It will probably take a long while until it all falls into place. Best wishes! -
To Everyone 4-6 Weeks Out Gastric Sleeve Surgery- Wanna Compare?
longer-life replied to TiffanyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First month down 19.5 pounds. By looking at tickers for the last 5 months I expect to lose an AVERAGE of 10 pounds a month, so realistically things will probably slow down soon. We shall see! -
How Many Calories Should We Get In Each Day?
longer-life replied to Mike Cannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons manual and nutritionist doesn't mention calories. Like some of the others mentioned, they focus on Protein & fluids. In the beginning if you meet both of these goals daily, the carbs and calories will take care of themselves. Consider logging everything on myfitnesspal.com so you see your progression. I wasn't able to meet my requirements on week 4 due to nausea and that is the first time my NUT mentioned calories and only because I started the conversation. At 4 weeks they want me around 900-1000. The first 3 week I was getting 500 - 735. Hope that helps. -
Im New On Vst- I Had Gastric Sleeve Surgery On May 27th,2011
longer-life replied to zulydejesus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you tried logging your foods and getting all your protein from foods? My surgeon's manual says that from the 2nd though 6th month "patients should gradually increase their consumption of protein from food.....and decrease supplemental protein shakes and powders". Many of us here use myfitnesspal.com to log our foods. Hope this helps. Best wishes! -
I Finally Got Gastric Sleeve Surgery On The 20th Of December. .
longer-life replied to markajd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was the opposite in regards to fluids. I was not able to finish an ounce cup of fluids in 3 sips as suggested by the bariatric nurse. I had to take 6 sips for a few weeks. It is getting better slowly. How are you doing? -

longer-life replied to TiffanyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
rosiegirl- 71 grams of Protein is the minimum I was instructed to consume. (You are not losing at a slower rate by the way. Keep checking the tickers and you will see you are doing fine!) -

Trying To Get An Idea Of How Much I Will Need To Pay For Gastric Sleeve Surgery
longer-life replied to augustkiwi's topic in Insurance & Financing
Some surgeons have fees for their programs and they usually need to be paid before surgery. I had to pay the hospital before surgery as well. Lastly, before my first appointment to see my NUT, she warned me some insurances don't pay for it and told me the cost. I haven't received a bill yet. -
Has Anyone Skipped The Puree Diet?
longer-life replied to StephanieG86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe I am not understanding you. Why do you want to skip a step when you are not feeling well? You should go slower, not faster. Also consider asking your doctor for suppositories to control your nausea. Follow your doctors orders. Be patient. I hope this answers your questions. -

Need Some Sleevers To Relate To!
longer-life replied to Sleeving into success's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first month I used chewables, but did not chew them. I just let them sit in my month until they dissolved, as the bariatric nurse suggested. It takes a long time that way, but they tasted good and I avoided the chalkiness. (Now I take pills from the same company). They have free samples. http://www.bbvitamins.com/ -
Some people are just UNBELIEVABLE
longer-life replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These stories should make you follow your doctors orders. No need to be afraid, if you do that and listen to your body. -
Powerade Zero has been my best friend since surgery. Sobe 0 has also been good. Crystal light, not so much. I was instructed to take my vitamins starting on day 5 or so. They were chewables at the time, but I took small pills since the second night. I am surprised (shocked actually) that you were not given this information before discharge. Glad you posted the question!

Some people are just UNBELIEVABLE
longer-life replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mina since you revived this old post I will tell another story. They have been horrifying but fun to read. Well not the deaths, of course. I was told an RNY man went in to see the surgeon for his 2 week appointment and was sweating, uncomfortable, in pain etc. The nurses thought he was going to have a heart attack. That is how bad he looked. He then started saying "I won't do it again, I promise I won't do it again" over and over again. What did he do? He ate ice cream and was dumping! So not only did he eat the wrong thing, he did it right before seeing his surgeon 2 weeks after surgery!!!!! -
Time To Dance! 100 Pounds Down...
longer-life replied to meggiep's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh wow! Congrats!!!!!!! Funny you mentioned juliarh because she was also the first video I watched when researching this and I had tears down my cheeks watching her dance. I loved seeing you dance to the same music! Very nice homage. Just noticed where you live. I used to live Redwood Shores, now in the East Coast. Love that area of the country! Continued success!!!!!!! You have done wonderful! -
Geno can you eat pureed foods? I am not sure I understand your question.

2-days Till Vsg And No Fear
longer-life replied to Cheles's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was never afraid either. I trusted I had picked a great surgeon and I had done my homework, the rest was out of my hands. I was ready and it seems you are too. Best wishes!!! -
You have researched this surgery for years and you have a therapist to help you navigate this journey. It will probably be tough, but you want this badly, so I know you will make it happen. Like you said, your past doesn't define you. Big hug to ya my friend!
