Mushies/purees Not Going Down Very Well - What To Do?
longer-life replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi ocean-ophelia! I'm feeling great. Seems our food progression is similar. On my third week I basically continued with full liquids and "sampled" a little thing here or there. Half an egg would have been way too heavy and too much. I couldn't finish 1 ounce of anything comfortably. Try 1/2 ounces. My samplings were more for the taste and experimentation purposes. My nutrition was definitely coming from shakes. With smaller amounts your feeling of nausea, diahrea and unsettled stomach will probably be reduced. We don't all progress at the same speed. A few days ago I realized I could eat 2-1/2 ounce of some meats and I was like "WOW!" It happened from one day to the next. Be patient, you will be fine. -
Do a search on this website and ask your nutritionist before you buy them. I read something about protein shots not being a good quality protein so we don't absorb it well or something like that.

Are you sure? With all or most insurances you can travel and it would be covered.

I also hope that tonight is different! Silly question. How do you know what's in season? Nowadays we get fruit from all over the world so I have no idea! *** (embarrased, hanging head)***

Omg...i Hurt, I Want Food And I Can't Tolerate Milk Products
longer-life replied to Joiebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been lactose intolerant for years so I use skim Lactaid milk, naturally lactose free Cabot cheeses (there are others I think) and room temperature ready to drink lactose free Protein drinks such as Oh Yeah brand. Lactaid also has a yogurt & cottage cheese. (I don't like yogurt or cottage cheese so I haven't tasted it.) I second the unjury chicken at this stage. That and Isopure "fruit juice" were great. Best wishes! -

Dr. "fuzz" Fernandez Wake Forest Baptist Hospital
longer-life replied to HopeThruFaith's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I don't have experience with this doctor, but just wanted to say that if you are concerned now, imagine how you will feel a few days before surgery. My surgeons expertise gave me a lot of peace. I knew that even if something went wrong, he would know how to fix it. I wouldn't pick this surgeon. No where near the experience I require, but obviously that is my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. :-) -
I Made A Mistake... But I Think I Got My Approval :)
longer-life replied to sabrina140's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not only were you told they took your insurance when you set an appointment , but when you visited they took your copay and not full payment. They made TWO mistakes. I would call my insurance and then call them. I wonder if he was covered at the time of your phone call and visit. At a minimum, I would want a DEEP discount. I would fight it. I have a PPO and I call my insurance for expensive things like surgery but not every time my daughter or I go see a new specialist. Like you, I call the doctors office and take the receptionists word. In the end I know I will be responsible financially, but I can't imagine calling my health insurance so often! Do others call every time? Congratulations on your potential approval! :-) -
My weight loss is similar to yours and I am happy with it, but I do need to start exercising, like your surgeon said. People with higher BMIs lose faster in the beginning. That is the only thing I can think of as to why your surgeon said that, but you don't have a ticker, so I don't know. Or maybe I am a slow loser and don't know it! Do you track your foods? Many of us here use myfitnesspal.com and it works great. That will help you know how many carbs you are consuming, but most importantly if you are meeting your Fluid and Protein goals. (There is nothing wrong with bananas.) Best wishes!

Am I Being Ridiculous?
longer-life replied to wondering1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister in law had the bypass 7 years ago and never got to goal. I estimate she missed it by 25 to 30 pounds. She lost and has maintained a 140 pound loss. She never wanted to exercise (which I don't condone), but yet she is an energizer bunny type person. She never stops. She now has a better half, a child and feels incredibly happy. I consider her a success story. Has she had a perfect journey? No. Should she exercise for health reasons? Yes. Does that mean she is not a success story? Heck no! I do think we should all strive for goal, but to me, it is not an "all or nothing" situation. -
Why Do People Try To Defeat You?
longer-life replied to Paola's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It must be so strange for "outsiders" to see us watching cooking shows and talking about food constantly after having our stomachs cut out. You would think that should be the last thing we want to do! We know it is common, but he doesn't. I think that made him feel scared for you. He probably thinks food still has a stronghold on you. You will prove him wrong and I suspect he will be super happy for you! -
I have been looking for you every few days and I missed this thread! Glad to see you are doing well! Congratulations!!!!

Vsg And Hiatal Hernia Repair
longer-life replied to cscake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any pain, however I did have to sip 6 times out of an ounce cup versus the three recommended. That lasted for a few weeks. Try much smaller sips and see what happens. Also to this day (I am 8 wks out) I don't drink cold liquids or plain water. I drink it room temperature or warm and always flavored. (Powerade Zero, Sobe 0, Mio etc). Cold liquids or plain water makes feel the way you described. When in doubt call the nurse at your surgeons office. -
I agree with this. Andersonlj you were called rude on another post and I agreed with that too. I don't know what is happening to you. The other day I thought one of your posts was so sweet to a fellow poster that I mentioned it on one of my posts. I am here shaking my head. There is a fine line between being honest and rude. I walk that line everyday and hope that I don't cross it. You are crossing it.

1Month Today Or 4 Weeks
longer-life replied to Pammie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess it's the glass half full or half empty thing. I lost 19.5 the first month and I was and am VERY happy. I think that is an incredible amount of weight! It's not even close to what I was able to lose before and most importantly, I have better chances of keeping it off. I am really trying to enjoy the journey and shed all this mental anguish and pressure. I wish the same to you. :smile1: -
6 Months Post-Op...why Am I So Tired?!?!
longer-life replied to LeahG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't 600-800 calories too low? Especially on exercise day. I am not sure though. Hopefully someone can comment in regards to this. -
yum! Thanks!
