    Pre op weight loss

Today is the first day of my pre-op diet. My physicain didn't give me a specific number of pounds he wanted me to lose. I have to do this for the next 12 days (until 9/18) then on 9/19 I have to do all Clear Liquids as my surgery is on 9/20. These are his instruction: 4 to 6 cans of Slim Fast per day (approximately 190 calories per shake) or 3 to 4 cans of Slim Fast per day and unsweetened applesause, or sugar free/fat free pudding, or Dannon Light & Fit yogurt. I hope this helps. I'll keep you posted on how much I lose on this diet. All the best, Nicole
  3. Hi Friends! Hope you're all having a great day! Well...today I started my liquid diet (Slim Fast). So far so good. I know this may sound crazy but I couldn't wait to start it. After this it's off to surgery (9/20).

    Missing work??

My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 20 and I am only planning on taking a week off. Like so many others, I;ve read posts where people go back ina few days or after a week. I think it depends on the person. I'm sure you'll be fine. All the best, Niki
  5. Congratulations! Keep up the good work!!!

    Pre-op Diet is a killer

I don't start my pre-op diet until 9/6 as my surgery isn't until 9/20. I remember the nutritionist mentioning headaches during the pre-op diet and saying that it tends to not only come from hunger but also from a lack of caffeine - which we can't have. I hope your headaches subside and that you feel much better soon. Hang in there and be encouraged! All the best to you! Be well, Niki

    Just need a little advice.

Thank you so much for sharing. I haven't had my surgery yet but I did wonder how I would get in my liquids and your medicine cup is a great idea. I have several Nyquil cups and I think they will work perfectly. Thank you! Niki
  13. WOW...you look great!!!! And what a wonderful friend you have. Keep up the good work!!
  14. Hi NM86, You and I are on the same page. I told my boss when I came in this morning that I'd be taking some time off to have a procedure. His reaction was concern not knowing what procedure I was having so I shared it with him. He just listened, nodded and then said whatever I needed just ask. I knew that I needed to tell at least one of my bosses (I work for 4 attorneys) and I don't regret sharing my news with him. I don't think you should feel obligated to share any of your personal business with your boss. I'm sure your pressure can be affected by stress and/or anxiety. If you have the time (vacation, personal, sick, etc.) go through the proper channels to get the time off and when you feel comfortable then you can tell her...in your own time. Chin up and be encouraged! Niki
  15. And the good news keeps rolling in. A little while ago I posted that I had received my approval letter yesterday in the mail. This morning I called the surgical nurse/coordinator to let her know about the letter (the Doctor said IBC usually lets their insureds know before they let the surgeons know about approval/denial). Anyway, they received a copy of the letter and right then and there, on the phone she gave me my surgery date!!! She also went over my liquid diet, when to start it, etc. I am beyond estatic. My face hurts from smiling so much. Can this day get any better???
  16. I'm looking at the after surgery diet that my surgeon gave me (I'm not scheduled for surgery until September 20) and it says for days 1 thru 3: water, broth (chicken, beef or vegetable), decaffeinated tea, crystal light, diet jello, or sugar free popsicles. Whichever you try, I'm sure it will work out for you. Be well, Niki
  17. Congratulations!!! We are on our way!
  18. Good morning all. Just wanted to share my good news. When I got home yesterday waiting for me in the mail was my APPROVAL LETTER FROM IBC!!!! Initially I thought it was a bill so I waited about 5 minutes before opening it and as I read it my feet did a happy dance. Ok...and I also screamed to the top of my lungs - LOL. I felt like I had won the lottery. My last appointment with my surgeon was August 10 and he said he was sending my file to pre-cert but I had no idea approval would come so soon. The last words he said to me were, "Nicole, the next time I see you you'll be looking up at me from a gurney in the OR"... looks like truer words have never been spoken. Here's wishing my VSG family a Fantabulous Friday!!! All the best, Niki
  19. Mim, congratulations on your surgery date! Oct. 3 will be here beofre you know it. I can't wait to read all about your progress. Be well, Niki
  20. Just checking in to see how you're making out with finding a pre-sleever group. Any luck?

  22. I will certainly have to check out the September board. This is such an amazing feeling and I haven't even had the surgery yet!
  23. Thanks! I will definitely keep you posted. Heehee!
  24. I have said this so many times before and it's worth repeating... you are such an inspiration and motivator to me and so many others. You are always transparent - which is an admirable quality and your advice is sound. Thank you so much for your encouragement and for your words of wisdom.
