    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I had surgery on 12/26/2013. I have been Type 1 diabetic for 40 years, I have some loss of Kidney function. After surgery my Kidneys got worse and they had to pump me full of IV fluids. I gained back the 15 lbs had lost pre surgery, so I was back up to 300. It took me over a month to recover from surgery and another month before I felt some what "normal". May 21 I went in for my annual cardiac exam they called me that after noon and said I needed to go to have an angiogram. I did not leave the hospital. On May 23 I had triple bypass surgery on my beast and they said I had had a heart attack probably at the time of my gastric sleeve surgery. It has been hard. I am so ready to start feeling good. They say the recovery from this will take up to 4 months. I am down 60 lbs but still not feeling great. I hope and pray that the next six months bring health and well being.

    Type I Diabetics

Hi, I also am type 1 diabetic. I was looking for someone else who might share with me. I still am having trouble adjusting my insulin levels. What are you using to correct your lows? I am using a lot less insulin but have had to deal with some lows. I see the endocrinologist on Monday, hopefully he can help me. Sorry I don't have any answers I am looking for some too.
  5. I have had type 1 diabetes for 40 years and have always struggled with my weight. I was sleeved on Dec. 26, 2013. I have been able to reduce my blood pressure medications, and my insulin usage. I have lost 43 lbs. since my surgery but the last four weeks have been so slow. I was just wondering if there were any other type 1 diabetics out there and if you could share a little bit of your journey with me.
  6. I am getting very tired if soft foods. And the fact that everything tastes sweet. On the 23rd of January I will be starting week 5 post op. I have been looking at recipes and came across kale chips. When do you think I could add something like that in my diet?

    6 days post op

I had my surgery 17 days ago on Dec. 26. I still have no energy. I am type one diabetic and have not had any trouble with my blood sugar, I am on the insulin pump. I am now taking about 50% less insulin now. I feel ok just exhausted all the time. I sure hope the energy level will come back soon. I go to the DR. and NUT tomorrow I will discuss it with them. Hope you start felling better soon.
  9. I had my surgery on 12/26/13. I had a 4 day hospital stay. I am felling ok but I have absolutely no energy. It is an effort to shower and dress. I am tired of just sitting around. I want to have some energy. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for you to get your energy level back up?
  10. I had my surgery done on Dec. 26. I started out at 305 and went through education classes and at the time of surgery was done to 285. It has been one week since my surgery and I have followed the clear liquid diet to a tea. I had some kidney complications and they had to pump me full of IV fluids. The fluid weight is making my legs and feet swell. Has anyone gone through something similar and have any advice for me?
  11. Thanks for all the positive words of encouragement. I had a pretty first rough week and was wondering why did I do this. I hope I can keep my focus on the long term goal.
  12. I have had type 1 diabetes for 37 years. My diabetes is under control but I am overweight. Has anyone with type 1 diabetes had lap band surgery? How did you do?
