I'm not sure...I was banded on July 1 and got my 2nd fill yesterday. I have 8.4 cc in a 14cc band. I had 5.4 in during surgery, and then 2cc, and then 1cc. I was not feeling any restriction until my first fill...and now I am REALLY feeling it. So...maybe your surgeon wants you to not rely on your band as much but to learn to make healthy decisions. From the time I had the surgery until my first fill, I really didn't lose any weight. But now I'm losing. Good luck! and let us know how it goes.

July 2011 Bandsters!

I am fighting with my band and the band is going to win. I got my first fill last Monday. I am having issues with regurg. I know why every time...it's habit and head stuff. I will get it through my head that I can't eat as fast or as much as I used to and that I must chew chew chew chew. I'm discouraged and sad. I had 5.4 in before my fill and they added 2cc...so I'm at 7.4 cc in a 14cc band. Anyone else having similar issues? Is this normal? Am I a failure? Ugh.... -

alrighty guys how are ya? I was banded on July 1...I feel like a NORMAL person again. I'm hungry. I am eating mushies...but with a mix of solids a little bit.....hard to explain. Definitely not on solid foods yet and I'm a little scared. I have restriction with mushier foods....if I eat too fast or don't chew enough. Although the restriction or tight/stuck feeling only lasts for 10 or so seconds and then the food gets through the band or into the pouch i assume. So...i am trying at this point to 1) AVOID liquid calories...I was hungry saturday and had a Protein shake. Bad idea. 2) Protein first. 3) eat slower 4) chew The nurse said she would probably go with a 2 cc fill if I come in saying the same things the day of my appt. So we will see. I don't go in for awhile tho If i crave ice cream, i go for sugar free sherbet. -

OK July Bandsters...here's my 15 days after banding update!!! I'm feeling like a normal person!! I can go out to a restaurant and be normal I had hummus at the cheese cake factory last night and it was soooooo yummy. I have restriction a tiny bit...with thicker foods. And esp if I don't chew well. I was even able to have a margarita last night. Empty calories I know...but just 1. ANd i terribly miss beer so a margarita was nice. So....I'm down 15.6 lbs (or so) and I'm feeling really good. I go on vacation in 2 weeks and decided to delay my first fill until I get back...even if that means i gain a few lbs. It will be on August 8. I go to Kings island amusement park in mid-september and my first mini goal is non-scale...it's to be able to ride the kiddie roller coaster with my son...for his first ride OK toodles and ttyl! -

Lisa, i'm a bit late in my reply but things will get much better!!! I was banded on the 1st and i'm almost back to completely normal! I went for my post op appt yesterday and things are good. They told me not to be concerned about my weight until I started getting fills...so i'm going to weigh once a week and be thankful that I"m healthy and alive I, too, wondered if i made a mistake...i think once you heal some you will really start to feel better!!! -
trying to decide if I should get an unfill!!
girlwithflair replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my card, if you are making poor food choices such as higher calorie liquids, regurgitating, having discomfort when eating solids, and night cough--you need an unfill. I believe i fyou are stuck on mushy foods, you need an unfill. But, I'm newly banded and haven't had ANY fills and actually have no experience So take that for what it's worth -

hiya all! I'm hungry today. I'm refocusing on protein Have gained a few pounds back from my lowest but my surgeon told me to expect that i might gain some back until the time i get my first fill. My first month is meant for healing....then i start to use the tool as it was intended once i get some fills Now...here is my question...I am leaving on vacation to WV to go 4-wheeling (!!!! ) on 7/29. That would be the day I would be eligible for a fill. I have to pay for every fill. So...should i get the fill before i leave or wait until i get back? I'm afraid of gaining weight without the fill and i'm afraid of being stuck in the mountains of WV and not having easy access to my surgeon's office if i get a fill and something bad happens. What would you do? -

I'm here Just really hungry all the time. I'm sure that my weight loss is stalling but i haven't gotten on the scale lately. I went to support group last night at my surgeon's office. It was good. We talked about how our body is a temple and reflected on how we are treating it.... And then our homework is to write a love letter to our body. Praising it for all the good it has done for us in our life...taken us through many adventures and carrying us despite our abuse. It was interesting. I am eating mushy stuff....really want some tuna salad. I had scrambled egg beaters last night and cottage cheese. It was good. -

Hey guys...I'm not sure how I'm doing with all this. I've gone through some emotional stuff...Like I hope i haven't made a mistake...why can't i be naturally skinny...what if i have band complications. I guess the reality of it all is setting in. I Had my surgyer 7/1 (Friday) and went back to work on Tuesday. That was tooooo soon. I only lasted 1/2 day and then all day wed and thursday. But by Friday...I crashed. I stayed in bed most of the day..called in sick to work. I think the problem was my pain meds...i stopped taking them all together. I am feeling better now..the world is clearer and I'm not having such a hard time getting up in the morning. My gas pain in my shoulder is almost totally gone...and i had a normal BM yesterday. Finally! I am taking it easy this whole weekend though because I need to make it through the work week. Mushies is going fine...I guess. I hope I'm not being too agressive with it. I went out to a mexican restaurant last night...and really really really miss the beer. I had some iced tea with splenda.....a mushy chile relleno....and some refried Beans with sour cream. It did the trick. It is really important to me that I can have the band and be a normal person at restaurants and stuff....so I think that will be fine. Onward...and Downward!! Have lost 15 lbs since my pre-op appt at the surgeon. -

a tablespoon of PB in my vanilla protein shake in the blender was fine for me....no problems at all. I guess it depends on how you are eating it? -

Hey there!! That's crazy isn't it? I might have seen you leaving as I was walking back to get gowned. I had my surgery at 2:15...had to be there at 1:15. I would like to go to the support group on Monday but I'm a single mom and I'm not sure if I will have child care for my kids That's a total bummer. I broke down last night (was really hungry) and opened a can of refried Beans. Added some sour cream to make it more runny and heated it up. It was yummy and I did just fine with it. So I plan on starting mushy foods today. -

Hey all! This is my first post on the board! I had my surgery on Friday July 1, 2011....and was back to work yesterday. (Tuesday). I had to leave work around 2 to go home and sleep. So today, i'm back to work and it's almost 4pm so I feel like that is some improvement! Here's what I'm going through-- BURPING! BURPRING! and more BURPING! My incisions are itchy. I'm taking my pain meds at night only so i can sleep My dr allows me to eat anything that would go through a straw...so i picked up some Soups and added milk and pureed them in the blender. The potato Soup with bacon and added cheese and milk was delicious! I'm a stomach sleeper and have been able to sleep on my stomach...thank goodness! I woke up on the operating table after it was all said and done and i just started sobbing...I told those nurses that I wish i were naturally skinny and didn't have to do this.....one replied that she wishes she was 5'8" but she just isn't I hope i have made the right decision. Does anyone else feel like that? Today is the first day that I can recognize hunger and not get grossed out by food smells. I'm ready for some mushy foods on Friday!!! I have my refried Beans and sour cream and cheese waiting for me in the fridge hehee TTYL Edited to add: Try vanilla Protein powder, skim milk, Peanut Butter, a touch of nutella, and blend! MMMMM lots of protein and very tasty. Also, i have been taking my regular pills just fine. If they are a bit large, I break them in half.
