My friend and I are scheduled for surgery on August 2nd with Dr. Verboonen. We will stay two nights in hospital/surgery center and then one night at the Lucerna. My question is about follow up. Did any of you go back to Mexico for follow-up? I never even considered this. I just assumed the stitches would be removed before we left Mexico along with the swollow test and leak test. Someone on another forum really made it sound like you're crazy if you don't have ongoing follow up after the surgery. I don't have any plans for continuing follow-up with my surgeon other than email and telephone communication if I have questions. I certainly can't take more time off work (or extra expense) to fly back down there to get stitches out or have blood work. I will be contacting my facilitor on Monday to ask her questions about this, but until then any advice from those who have already "been there done that" would be so appreciated.

Not sure about Dr. Almanza. dr. verboonen is $4500 for surgery and all that goes with that plus 2 night stay in hospital/clinic facility. We will pay for one night at Lucerna Hotel in TJ ($80) and our meds we take home ($30) and of course air faire to San Diego where the shuttle picks us up and takes us to TJ. My surgery is August 2nd and I leave to fly home on August 5th. I plan to rest over the weekend and go back to work on Monday (legal assistant). I am not telling anyone I work with what I am doing for my "vacation" in fact the only people who know are my husband, my friend who is getting the procedure done at the same time with me, and her husband.

I am going to dr. verboonen. He has a clinic in TJ and in Cancun. The one in Cancun is a little more expensive (I'm sure due to the location) so I opted for TJ. My friend and I both are scheduled for August 2nd with him. We found him with International Patient Facilitators. The MyMedicalLoan people are like contractors who find a finance company for you. If was fast and easy and my interest rate is comparable to most credit cards, not great but my monthly payments are small enough that I can double up on them and get it paid off sooner and be done with it. My BMI is 31 so there is no way I would qualify for insurance coverage and I can't imagine paying $10,000 or more in the states for the same surgery. Please let me know how it works out for you. I get on this site almost every night when I get home from work. I love all of the information that is available, and you are the first person I have posted to.

Hi there, sorry to hear of your stress over financing. I got my loan through MyMedicalLoan and have not had any problems. I am scheduled for August 2nd and my doctor is in Mexico too. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
