Ah Mary! Hope your back is better soon,,,and yes lunges are great,,,so are just sqwats. I lost 67 lbs about 10 years ago,,,and my legs and arms were great,,,I got into power lifting and so they didn't really go down in size,,,but got really toned and defined with muscle. BUT OMG my belly was disgusting. It looked like a deflated balloon. Felt like one too,,,well one filled with some Water... And I did everything,,,I was doing power crunches on some horrible machine that you add weight...I figured if I could of gotten rid of all the skin,,,and more fat I would of had some muscle...ha ha ok everyone would or could say the same. I read alot on skin,,,and benefits of what works and doesn't. Grapeseed oil sticks out..

hi ya Doddie,,, I know both my friends had to wait a year after they had lost their weight,,,there is a good chance the elasticity in your skin will do its job and there will be less to tuck or cut away.
-
I was told it takes a good year for your elasticity (sp?) to go as far as it will go. So after 1 year of loosing all your weight and your thighs aren't where they should be,,,chances are they won't ever be. I have heard of grapeseed oil helping,,,thinking its the same as Vitamin E tho. I have two friends who had the apron surgery done after they both lost more then 125 lbs. And I know both wish they could afford to get their arms done,,,and neck...and legs,,,and butt. I have another friend who never had to have surgery,,,not even the apron done. Angie

Hi Tyler,,, well to be honest alot of things I listened to in the classes were things that I had already knew. Like you I have done alot of reading. I did some research on Lap Bands before I went to my family Dr. Not saying this is a bad thing,,,it just reafirms all the information for me...and alot of times we had discussions which brought out many other thoughts. I went and saw Dr. Church and was told as of that time there would be no more surgeries that were not all ready books. They were capped out. So I am looking at 2009. I admit I was very disappointed. I was also disappointed to hear that Natalie is no longer with the program. We had some good talks. Angie -

Hey Tyler.. Im Calgarian,,,and on the wait list. I had my family Dr. send in a referral to the wait management. It was the end of May last year that he had done this and I was in the intro class by Aug 2nd. This went for 1 night a week for 3 weeks. It just gave you a run down of what to expect and such. She was very upfront saying that out of 20 people,,,probably only a fraction would go thro with the surgery. Be it their decision or they didn't meet the requirements. She then said there are other classes that you can take...Ive taken a couple. March I met with a surgeon Dr. Church. And as far as hes concerned I meet all the requirements and have done everything possible to ensure I know what I am going into. (other then a few little things I didn't know but from reading many of these posts have learned) Now the kicker.... The wait time is long. And fustrating. I will not be getting surgery in 2008 for sure. 2009 looks promising. The wait time to meet with anyone is aanywhere from 3 weeks(you are lucky if you can get that) to 2 months. So while I have to wait for the surgery I will be doing the classes when I can. Another kicker,,,alot of the classes are during the day. This is the number I call when I am making an appointment 943-2602 good luck Angie -
Doddie,,,I know of what SusieQ was saying about stuffing yourself on dinner,,,and feeling that bloated feeling. I didn't know about being nauseasus. Im waiting for my surgery...when ever that will be.

Becoming frustrated and a bit sad

ah what a bummer...I would feel the same way as you do. July really isn't all that far away,,,but like you if I have everything planned out to the minute and things go wrong Im upset. -

I work in an office and one day I had a male co-worker, (he has extremely bad english) ask a young female co woker how much she weighs, shes about 5'10 and her reply was 110 lbs. He looks to me,,and within everyones ear shot says,,,you need to be healthy like her,,,drink lemon Water and you too can be like her. She very beautiful.

ya thanks...I'll be sure to buy a lemon tree

Of course I also have the mother who has always rattled my cage with remarks,,,its too bad you have gotten so big, and doesn't understand how my DH can stand to be with me, and why can't I just suck it all in? And the best ,,,while growing up,,,and not very big,,listening to her tell me that if I got fat no one would love me.

I can be pretty mouthy,,,as the example of a shopping trip to the mall. I was walking with a girlfriend,,,and had a couple of twits make a rude comment about being fat to me. My comment,,,Well I might be fat,,,but at least my parents aren't siblings...You interbred twit!

I quit talking to a friend a couple years ago. There was 3 of use who all met while working for the same company. We were all the same age and such. Two of us were big girls and married. The other she was pretty slender and unmarried. We were friends for about 15 years,,,and having a BBQ this one evening. And as usual listening to the slender girl complain about not finding Mr. Right.... she made the comment that she couldn't understand why she couldn't find someone when look at the two of us. You would think a guy would want to be with someone who takes care of herself....

Well perhaps he doesn't want a mean spirited woman ?

hey all, I really don't care about the bruising and scars,,,lets just get it over with. ARGH I had allergy tests and the Dr. could not believe how sensitive my skin is,,,I welt up over bandaids, and light adhesive tapes,,, I have had surgery, as recently as last year and can expect to have scars from even the tapes they use. But since my bikini days are over,,,ha I don't care. I just want the fat gone.

Thanks Andrew and Julie, I knew coming in here I would learn more from what others have gone through. I know we don't have the money to pay for this surgery...so Im one of those that will have to wait. What my Dr. said was that Dr. Coburn was the one to train Dr. Mitchell,,,and so Julie what you are saying is your Dr. trained Dr. Coburn? this is a small world... My BP isn't all that bad, right now life is throwing lemons and when that happens I tend to have a higher BP and tend to eat...gotta love that emotional eating. I will be calling the number you gave me Julie,,,thanks again. Angie

Just got back from my Dr. appointment and I brought up lap bands. I had brought up gastric by pass over ayear ago and watched him come unglued so I was a bit timid is broaching this. He was all for lap banding. But said that Dr. Mitchell had a waiting list of years. That he only does 10 people a year,,,all in the same week. I told him what I read here, about teh 25 people, and he thought because it was a study. He said he would contact the clinic and start my paperwork. I have been also seeing Dr. McKenna since May,,and well that hasn't been going well,,all on my part. Well I should say I was seeing her, I have to say I have been avoiding the clinic cause I have not lost anything since I was last there. And I was to loose 20 lbs before Christmas. Or I would have to go on meds for my BP.
