Wow...I'm surprised at all the negative comments....she's asking for advice not judgement. I happen to know a friend who does her own fills and has been doing so for the past few years. She also does a few other people in her circle of friends and has had no problems (knock on wood) now I've never done it and I personally feel more comfortable with my doctor doing it because he does it with fluro and last time he actually put too much in and had to remove it right away. He could only tell because of the fluro, I couldn't even tell. I'm just more comfortable with my doctor doing it, but if you have a good feel for your port area then more power to you! I would see if amazon sells the needles that you need so that you don't have to steal them next time... And for those who are even thinking of judging me for my comment ...go fly a kite! I'm not interested in what you have to say and your comments will not be entertained...

Hi everyone, I'm banded but seriously thinking about RNY for long term benefits and lower risks compared to band. Went to a seminar today and the surgeon preferred the RNY over the band and even said it was considered the "Gold standard" what is everyones thoughts and feelings on this topic? Do you know anyone who has had an RNY or are you having a revision surgery to the RNY? Please share!

No I wasn't actually thinking about it until I had to go to this orientation yesterday in order for this doctor to accept me as her patient then I started second guessing my choice, I guess call it buyers remorse in a sense. Wondering if I really made the right choice, thanks for everyones opinions and comments but I have to say I'm honestly not interested in anyone pointing out the obvious. Yes I'm only a month out of surgery but I'm still questioning pros and cons of each and after continually speaking to different specialists and patients this is still weighing heavy on my mind. If I had to say I'd say my primary care doc really put doubt in my mind as he's pretty much against the band and for anyone who decieds to again point out the obvious yes, it was after the fact. I'm not disappointed just really wondering if I made the right choice. Hoping I made the right choice.

Anyone out there have a 4cc Band? If so, how are you doing with it?
SkinnyCL replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded I. Mexico and have had no complications at all. In fact I've heard just the opposite that the newer generation bands are having issues because they were rushed into production because of the competition getting a green light from the FDA. As soon as J&J received FDA approval Allergan from my understanding rushed on the next generation of bands in a bid to compete with the only other FDA approved band. No ofense taken, I was just curious. After speaking with a few different health professionals I actually wanted to go to Mexico so I could get the 4cc band as opposed to what's being used in the states. I've also heard conspiracies behind the newer bands and why they hold more fluid (takes longer to achieve "green zone" -
Inches gone but no weight loss, how can this be?
SkinnyCL replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok people a pound is a pound. I hate when people say muscle weighs more than fat! So not true!!! One POUND of nails weighs the same as one POUND of feathers! That being said most of the time you lose weight starting with the last place you put it on. It's a slow process but you'll get there! Good luck -

SkinnyCL replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just out of curiosity what difference does it make if it iis an identical band? If it's an allergan 4cc what difference does it make if it's in the states or Mexico? -
Good luck from what my doctor told me Kaiser will NOT do lap band but they WILL do gastric bypass. They believes lap band causes too many complications. I have Kaiser and tried to do the Lap band with them and that's how out. Although I have to say "I'm sorry" at least my doc was really nice about it, he explained it in detail to me instead of lashing out

I did mysurgeyloans.com as well, great customer service but I agree...very expensive. I do however have a word of advice for anyone using dr.gonzalez in TJ his assistant or U.S contact (dr. Serrano) can be super shady when it comes to money! All I have to say is if you use this particular dr go with cash or credit so they don't play games with you otherwise you'll end up paying in the end and I mean that littereally!

Some people are SO IGNORANT!!!
SkinnyCL replied to AlyGurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! This is nasty...or we could look at it like "don't hate cause I got the band and you either can't pay for it or your ins told you no" so what if I need help if you don't like it go fly a kite! Don't let stuff lime this bring you down! -

Tricare Prime - Lap Band Denied Again, Again, And Again!
SkinnyCL replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
'AZArmyWife36' I'm so sorry for your denial if you're going to self pay I'm sure you probably already know this but just in case most base hospitals will do the procedure at a greatly discounted rate. For instance a tummy tuck that I was looking into years ago on base they quoted me $800 instead of the national average of anywhere from $6000 to $12000 . Hope this helps you a little. I know it sucks to be self paying. Best of luck and thank you to you and your family for all of your sacrifices! Former USAF (ex wife) -

I'm not gonna lie or play self righteous, I've done it. I'm newly banded and a few things that I'm just craving I can't have right now. I was banded on the 2nd and I had to do a pre-op diet and now a liquid diet so when I craved something that is clearly a no no then I chew and spit. Yes, it's gross but it's helping me cope with my strict post op diet.
